Tidbits ahead of the big Fiesta at the ballpark near the graveyard: FIRST OFF, HERE'S YOUR BRACKETIowa lost a 14-3 game on April 18 at Granderson to UIC. A second game at season's end in Cornfield County was called off ahead of the MVC tournament. Iowa, 42-14, is the 2 seed behind The Sickos and ahead of North Carolina and Wright State. Iowa is also pretty good at women's basketball. Iowa is known as the Hawkeyes, which begs the question: Where's the rest of the hawk? IOWA'S PDF STATS PAGE The Tar Feet are 35-22 in the overly ambitious ACC, which is considered pretty much the go-to conference for CBS and other self-important sports programming networks. We, here at HQ, are not impressed. But powder blue is a nice accent color. North Carolina, for what it's worth, is where the Wright brothers actually flew their first airplane back in the day. That is an interesting segue. ROAD TAR STATS PAGE Wright State, or the program from Dayton that produced a story that persuaded Blake Sisley to realize he didn't need basketball to be a tall person, is the designated pom-pom mom target this week. We only hope that the Sickos fans realize that Wright is near the Air Force base, also named for Wright. Wright, not known as the Bombers or the Airmen, did beat Hawaii, Kentucky, Ohio State and Army, so there's that for them. 39-21 in the Horizon, so there's also that. At Wright's field, they have a Trivia Tuesday that is sure to be a big hit at UE next year when Ziggy introduces it to Aces fans. I THINK THESE ARE THE WRIGHT STATS, UNLESS I AM WRONG

I know one writer was knocking on the UK Lexington regional and teams having to stay in dorm rooms, but let's not pretend UK dorms of today are the same as the ones from last century. These rooms/suites go for up to 6k a semester. wildcatliving.uky.edu/boyd-hallThe breakfast they get will be much better than the one down at the Holiday Inn Express.

Paul Skenes figures to get a nice contract this summer. Lowder and Dollander could be almost as good.

These are writers who don't actually follow NCAA baseball until it becomes something they can't ignore. Athletes who are within a short campus bus ride from the ballpark are actually pretty happy about that. These are not guys who are out for a bachelor party. They aren't there for the scenery. It's summer school.

Did UE offer to assist in hosting ISU? Did Vanderburgh county Convention & Visitor Bureau offer to assist in hotels and amendites? Two hours away maybe prefer by team following fans. Will UE take advantage of having a NCAA Baseball Regional in their backyard? just thought I'd ask about the commitment of Evansville to take advantage of a bridesmaid situation.

Friday’s ISU-WSU game sold out on Wednesday, according to the university’s Sports Information office. Tickets for other games — including chairback seats — remained available as of Wednesday night.

Just read an article trying to establish something about the Wright States that advanced this story and it's pretty clear the Dayton paper depended on handouts from the WSU press office. There's no context at all, and virtually nothing that isn't coach-tells-how-happy-he-is comments. Nobody actually follows these teams until they have no choice. I did learn that Wright is pretty dominant in the Horizon, so there's that. They beat the Sicks last year 2 out of 3 at home. I think the few people who post on this forum have more insight than the scribes do. They don't cover these teams.
The Raiders (39-21) had to come out of the losers bracket to win the Horizon League tourney — the first time they’ve captured the crown that way since their first title in 1995 — but they uncovered some pleasant surprises.
In the past, they haven’t had the arms to get through a regional. They lost to Tennessee, 9-8, on a walk-off grand slam and Duke, 14-6, in 2021. And they fell to Virginia Tech, 15-9, and Gonzaga, 11-9, last season.
But Sogard said: “I do like the depth we have on the mound this year, as opposed to other years. We’ve been pitching it much better the second half of the season.”

Sitting in the sun in downtown Terry Haute with 90 degrees and no wind -- gotta love it.

Wow just wow ... Sicko recovery. That pitch clock violation was murder. So why does UNC and the NCAA decide that tonight's game should be on the ACC network?

Looks like ISU wins 6-5 in a come from behind win. (Didn’t see the game.) ISU was down 5-2 (to Wright State) in the fifth inning and down 5-3 heading into the bottom of the eighth before pulling out a 6-5 win. www.ncaa.com/game/6147488ISU’s starter Jachec gave up five runs in four innings before the relievers and bats saved the day.
