Humrichous describes Bobe as the ‘ultimate leader’. Part I took out of the Valley insider. 5th year senior who shows leadership skills, by the way Leadership is a UE graduate program, gets the start every time in my outlook.

If the conversation involves why some players are starters and some are not, once the subbing starts, it's the guys on the floor. Why isn't Cuff starting? May be the best player on the team at times. Or Hughes? Tall guy, lots of promise. The fascination over being a starter is so-1960s. So true, ATP. The thought resurrects the 6'3" GARRET STURTZ (sp?) @ Drake. How many yrs. were they near the top of the MVC because of the 6th man Sturtz? The dude was feared OFF the bench!
Btw, I note where ISU lost their 6'7" Kent due to "concussion protocol" during the Tues night loss to IL St. He may miss their next SIU game. They have nobody of productive value off their bench, and given their last 4 gm shooting %, the high seasonal MP's may be taking a toll.
ISU is not deep. Could be a big loss. Could be a Ben loss factor. Not a big ISU fan but they where getting MVC headlines and possible 2 teams in NCAA.

As for Jackson and Day, they've appeared in only 6 games each, likely not MVC caliber yet. Then again, all redshirts from last year entered the portal and left. Guessing these 2 get redshirt years. Most likely there is a BIG man available better prospect than Day, and there are guards available that have a better GAME than Jackson. To get better, teams have to recruit better than what you have{CREWS}.

I was very impressed with Jackson when I saw him play. A great offensive motor. Hope he stays.
These threads may get shorter next year when the Bobester leaves. I think Bailey should be getting more minutes, but I must consider Ragland knows more details than I do, and I can’t complain about the huge leap in decent basketball we’ve been playing.

The addition of Day came fairly early in the process, as I recall. That doesn't mean much, technically, but most recruiting "news" is about players who are easier to sign. Those players probably have fewer attractive offers. I knew a juco coach a lot of years ago who signed all the local all-stars to ramp up enthusiasm inside the community and, one by one, quietly added the guys he really wanted later on. When the season started, enthusiasm was high for seeing local guys and as it went along, the "real" recruits took him to the finish line. I see Michael Day as that player. He was proof that the Aces had expanded their reach beyond Crawford County. That's not a rap on Day or a suggestion that he was a poor recruit. He is just not the guy who is going to win at the Valley level. He's probably aware of that by now, as are the associated walk-ons who get to pretend they are Born or DeVries in the workouts.

Not to warp this thread, but ISU at full strength and Drake are both capable of winning a couple of tournament games, given the right draw. I'm sure NCAA is aware of that and will make deathly certain the tournament isn't overly "mid-major" again this year. Heaven forbid, somebody from Florida Atlantic would actually tune in for those games.

With Bobe and Strawbridge graduating, he should at a minimum slide into Chuck/Gages old role off the bench and get 15 MPG next season. He definitely showed the offensive talent to play at this level in the short flashes we’ve seen. Might not be a major impact player at first, but he’ll develop into a solid MVC player.

re-watch the last 5 minutes of the Drake Jan 20th game, then reconsider your opinions on Jackson?? I’ll be honest, I’d turned the game off by then. I’ll rewatch tonight and see what I think. I still doubt anything I see in a blowout loss will change my opinion on him hopefully being a contributor next year though.

Consider if 7 of our 10 man rotation returns(includes Kalle), we've signed 2 expected helpers, we have unknown quality in Tesch, we have an open scholarship, hard for me to see him in that 2nd team rotation. If not, he would again be an 11th or 12th man. And then again, I could be under estimating his potential. Time will tell.

I think what your assessment ignores is that the majority of the departing minutes from the rotation are at Braylon’s position with no obvious replacements for those minutes in the recruiting pipeline. Cuff / Berridge Chuck / Haffner / Jackson Ben / Toumi / Battle / Tesch Hughes / Kalle / Day This is how I see the depth chart outlook for next season. I doubt we actually run a huge lineup with Ben at the 3 consistently, so it’s probably really more like this at the 4/5: Ben / Battle / Tesch Toumi / Hughes / Kalle / Day That leaves a lot of minutes to be distributed between the guards for the 1-3 spots without much experience. I also doubt Kaia Berridge is ready for serious minutes as a freshman which leaves even more of an opening for Braylon. It’s definitely possible that we have 2-4 more unexpected departures at seasons end and backfill with players that could push him out of the rotation, but the current moments outlook on the roster makes me think he will be in the rotation next year unless we plan on only playing 3 guards all year. Spring recruiting could change that, and maybe Raglands already identified he needs to change that if he wants to compete next year, bur as the roster stands right now, I don’t see him being left out.

Finding Antonio Thomas was a sharp move. I think there are a couple of those guys out there who'd like to play at a bit higher level. Ragland can be a bit more choosy than Lickliter ever was.

At least we finally get rid of Bobe. Hallelujah! 👎👎👎👎 The young man has been a great example for others and according to those who would know best, his teammates, he has been a great leader. I don't understand the hate he gets from people who are supposed to be Aces fans. He has 2 home games left, and then he and Kenny, another one not appreciated as much as he should be, deserve a big ovation for their efforts to help lift UE basketball, both on the court, and more importantly, help build the culture in the program the staff is building.
