The wrong move in 1995 was when Aces joined MVC. If you were around at that time, the concensus was we were leaping beyond our abilities to compete on the hardwood. That has proven true over the last 25 years. We will never, repeat NEVER be a contender On the hardwood floor. So accept that as fact. We are too small an UNIV, no student support, a town that does not attract talent, a 25 year record that does not entice orn inspire the better athletes, a school that cannot afford to pay for a tp coach, etcetcetc. A drop to a lower level conference for the consistent cellar dwellers would bode well. Winning teams attract WINNERS, that we are not This has to be the most idiotic post ever posted on here. I know we are supposed to be respectful, but it's impossible when you read something this moronic and completely wrong.

The OVC championship game last night was tremendous. Especially since the right team won. Either team last night would handle todays MVC champion fairly easy. Both teams had 8-10 players choreographed to the same flow, and it played to the last ticks on the clock. UE would have a much better dynamic to build rivalries in the OVC, great fan base closer to travel. The down side? The OVC couldn't be played in the Ford Center. Either team could handle the MVC champ? Murray couldn’t even beat our 9-win Aces team.

In OT…... DeAndre 18pts, 9 rebounds, 3 blocks. And as much as I hate to admit it, the Racers looked finely honed since that game. I stand with that assessment.

Perhaps Bradley and Belmont will match up.

Tech potentially good rivalries for the Aces? Seems like rivalries is far less important than a good television contract. Most of these teams are lucky to average 2,000 for a game, at least according to the NCAA data I found.

Take a deep breath. The McCarty hire created a huge buzz. But even if he was capable of controlling his libido and hanging around, he was rebuilding from a Marty train wreck and trying to recruit replacements for Smith and Taylor from late season slim pickin's. Expecting anything near Valley greatness by the end of his second year would be delusional. It was bound to take at least three years, probably four, to compile a roster capable of competing for a championship. As I recall comments from the old fan board, most of us were saying that same thing before the euphoria virus rotted our brains. Sadly, AD Spencer has given us another outdated Marty to endure in Lickliter and now he will most certainly have to begin a rebuild from near scratch. Perhaps the Aces will excel during the 2023-24 season, perhaps not. I haven't painted a rosy picture but I would rather the Aces remain in the MVC and try to sell tickets to games with the lower teams in the Valley than games with SIUE, TN-Tech, SEMO and TN-Martin. A move to the OVC would give us the emptiest Ford Center in its history. Less revenue will not solve any of our problems.

I know I risk being ostracized for just suggesting it, but just for the sake of discussion, where is the point we should consider a move to the OVC? Pros and cons? For whatever reason UE does not seem capable of recruiting and winning on a regular basis in this league. I’m not sure why. Sucky coaching, terrible recruiting, apathetic support from the administration, just what is the problem? I’d rather play in a league we might be more successful in and have a chance to go dancing. You have to admit, it’s been a very, very long time. I’m willing to give it a year, but am unsure if we are heading in the right direction and unsure what the root problem is. Now rip me a new one.....I’m a big boy, I won’t cry. Tell me how foolish I am, there are greater basketball minds than mine on this board. Just for the record I have been a avid fan for fifty years and a UE grad. Ready, set, go! 2OO7 or 'O8, when many of us were gathering at the old, "PURPLE CODE", I, once had posted a similar comment on there. It wasn't taken well by fellow fans either. ….. I had always wondered, 'when The MCC/MWC/Horizon was mutating', why the university didn't join The OVC. They (ACES) most certainly had history with it's members.... But, I now also disagree, that The OVC wouldn't have still been interested, in playing their conference tournament at The FC.It was being held in Nashville (Belmont) prior. Not advocating switching conferences, just because UE is unable to compete in ANY of their DI programs. I just (also I assume idiotically) think, they choose poorly, from the jump. However, I do also strongly feel The ACES get zero respect from fellow MVC members & their fans. That's why I have avoided even looking at that MVC fan page, these past few seasons. EU? Marty's physical appearance. UE was an anchor, dragging the conference down. Geez, many fans were even using a derogatory term of The ACES as a verb.....The better team, being upset by a sub-par program was referred as being, "Evansvilled".... I had enough. Bottom line is....."What cures all that ails you, is winning". It wouldn't matter if it was against, The Bearcats of Binghamton University or Cincinnati. The Bruins of Belmont or UCLA. Winning cures all. I went back and looked at some of The ACES opponents during the glory attendance years of The Crews Era, that many (members) seem to refer to. It included multiple seasons with regularly scheduled games @ ROBERTS against powerhouses Samford, Alcorn State, Maryland Baltimore County, Chicago State. OVC members SEMO, Murray, Morehead, UT Martin, & Austin Peay were annual staples. So, it wasn't the poor scheduling, "The Hate Everything Simmons Cabal", preaches. Seems, that in 2O16, that there were more regular season champs losing in conference tournaments than ever before or since. Capturing the guaranteed NIT slots & moving The ACES down and eventually off the board. As it would have with any 25 game win mid-major & losing in conference championship game. When SHOX, had their run and were ripping through The VALLEY & packing Koch. Their fans were "Jonesing" for tix, if the games were against rival Creighton or lowly UE. It didn't matter, their faithful were on hand. Non-cons, UNC Central, Howard, Western Carolina, or Chicago State. Didn't matter, Koch was sold out. If The ACES, were posting an annual conference win totals of, 15-16-17 and consistently holding serve, in The FC, attendance numbers would require the upper bowl, at every game. If The ACES were in The OVC....Jacksonville State & SIU-E, would regularity pull in 6-7K to see an ACES win, while protecting The FC. Just my opinion. But, coulda, shoulda, woulda only works in a String Theory Universe or Quantum Physics. go aces

To see a somewhat ill-informed poster from another MVC school, who is probably too young to have ever seen what our program is about, criticize or make fun of us... is far less upsetting than when some of our long-term fans actually promote downgrading the program.
If you have a Cadillac, and don't like the way it is being driven, you get a new driver. You don't trade it in on a Ford Focus.
Again, our resources, budget, facilities and fan base are all at or near the top of the MVC. The only thing debatable is if we have the right people handling it.

To be fair, the OP opened a conversation that's been somewhat fruitful. I hope we don't ridicule the thread for its intent.
I don't follow OVC sports on any level until they come into a conversation about how they might fare against UE. Murray appears to be the one strong program for men's BB, ranging from its record to its attendance. The rest of them are just outbacks to me. I nod to Belmont for its success despite being in the shadow of other established SEC programs.
If IF IF the Evansville program decided to shift into a conference that is at best a lateral move, I don't see how they'd prosper. Losing 4 games against SIU (Carbondale) and Ind. State would be a bizarre tradeoff for four games against ... um ... SIU (Edwardsville) and Tenn. Martin. Maybe in the non-revenue sports, the OVC could be appealing, esp. baseball and softball.

Believe there are better conferences than OVC that may become open in the future like Horizon, Mid America or even the Summit. We should jump, even tho they are regularly 1-bid leagues. I stated and agree with all who post the same: Winning brings Winners no matter what level you play. If we consistently win in MVC. that in itself will recruit for you. If you consistently play the PIG game, fail to play above .500 in conference, have a miserable record of one-and-done, then the school, city, atmosphere at games, student section and education plays a bigger part of recruiting. Except for education WE fail in all the above. With any move, new rivalries are begun, leaving the old rivalries(SIU and INST) for non-conference play. Someone may search and find our 25 year conference record, our 25 year tournament record in the MVC. No doubt it is dismal. Crews' motto was "We play for championships". He got 3 or 4 before MVC. How many have we gotten since? At best if all players return, we may be able to win max 6 conference games next year in my opinion. How many will be satisfied with those possible results. I continue to believe, JUMP if the opportunity presents itself. We were world-beaters in Small College era, we were playing for championships in the 80's and 90's, we have been last four and mainly cellar dwellers in the 25 year MVC. If you are satisfied to continue down that road, GOOD LUCK.

If you are satisfied to continue down that road, GOOD LUCK. Excellent Post Of course, a Murray fan who would jump at the first chance to bolt out of the OVC into the MVC would say this. It's the opposite of excellent and small thinking. You keep bringing up Crews. Those teams were in the MCC, that was top to bottom a better conference than the MVC. Your revisionist history is bizzarre. I had season tickets back then, and nearly all of us hated to see the program go from the MCC to the MVC. It was a small, but necessary step down. The MCC was simply imploding and to stay would have put us in Butler and Loyola's position of being stuck in what would become the Horizon. Those teams we were playing in the so called small college era are the same teams we are playing in the MVC. Our problems over the last 20 years have nothing to do with conference affiliation. It all started when Graves and Byers retired.
