Let's change the subject. NEW CONFERENCE!!!!! UE, ISU, Murray, Belmont, St Louis, SIU, Austin Peay (great Pep band) ……. WHO ELSE? NMC, The "New Madrid Conference" Well, if it is going to be the New Madrid Conference, you might as well grab SEMO, Arkansas State, UT-Martin and Memphis. On second thought, that conference seems a little shakey......

Evansville is, and always has been, a great fit for the Valley....geographically, historically and athletically.
Jim Crews stuck around too long and the whole athletic department adopted a mindset of "we can't compete" with the other schools in the Valley.
I don't know what the administrative support has been like, but I'd start with the board of trustees. Are they on board? Facilities at UE are impressive.

I respectively disagree with your middle paragraph about coach Crews. He was essentially "run off" by inept leadership of the university and athletic department imho. He did get complacent but it's plausible to me the leadership issues played into that. There's been a whole discussion on that already so enough said. I believe there is a consensus on this forum we now have all of the leadership's support for moving this program back to better times.

As I have said in the past and good sports program will lead to more students in the classroom. I was curious and started looking at what our endowment was. It has dropped a 1/3 in the past decade. That is not good. I think Pres P understands that. Gonzaga invested more into their programs and their student population grew with it.
