Good point. In the end it didn't matter, Texas still felt there was enough there to fire Beard with cause. They did and Beard did nothing about it. Here is the letter UT sent to Beard's attorney explaining the decision. Interesting as well that they address the attorney's contention that the charges would be dropped. Even without criminal charges, they found the behavior to violate the expectation of conduct they have for a head coach....something McCarty found out about. “Chris Beard engaged in unacceptable behavior that makes him unfit to serve as head coach at our university,” James Davis wrote.
“It is his actual behavior that we consider, not whether some acts also constitute a crime. Whether or not the District Attorney ultimately charges Mr. Beard is not determinative of whether he engaged in conduct unbecoming a head coach at our university,” Davis continued. To some end, the hypocrisy at these schools is a stunning public insult. No indictment here of UT or their process in general, as they should be applauded for removing a bad person from their midst. But coaches all over the country keep doing what they do until they are told to stop doing it. Then they politely take their leave and go someplace else, where they are welcomed as though they were heroes on the back of a mule at Jerusalem's gate. No idea how this impacts the point of this thread about Bol, but we could rename the thread, I suppose ... "what became of the Bol thread is this ................"
As a person who has a limited appetite for subterfuge in college sports, players like Bol might inevitably learn that being a gigantic duck in a medium-sized pond is a better ticket to a good life. Then again, their agents might not get paid as well if they all did that. I have two words to describe "agents."

Glad to hear Roosevelt is leading the St. Louis recruiting. Thanks for sharing that.
I think I can most definitely say the Marcus bleeds purple. If you don’t believe that, I will have to agree to disagree.

It sure is. I'm playing catch up here guys. I've been a little busy. Is Marcus looking for a job with whatever university Bol commits too? Is he becoming an agent for these kids? It’s all speculation that he is looking for a job for John to commit to a school. He is not an agent, but he is back to promoting kids he has close ties to on twitter. More speculation that he somehow benefits from their recruitment, but it’s pure speculation. It could just be good kids from the STL area that he wants to help get recruiting visibility. John does have an agent though that has been publicly handling his recruitment and he decommitted from Florida for unknown reasons, but it sure looks like it was over money/Marcus coaching role. Thanks for the reply Larry. The whole situation seems a bit bizarre. As Austin mentioned in a previous post, I wish Marcus in whatever he is doing/will do, the best of luck.

If you don’t believe that, I will have to agree to disagree. Well have to agree to disagree on that. He definitely bled purple up until a few months ago, but circumstances can change that pretty quickly. Marty Simmons bled purple for 30 years until March 2018. I had a friend on the old staff that bled purple his entire life until they were fired last May, and he now doesn’t want anything to do with the university. We don’t know the circumstances of Marcus departure, so I don’t know how we can definitively say that there isn’t a rift between him and the program currently. Hopefully it can be mended if there is, but it’s a pretty big assumption to assume he’s still doing everything he can to help the program despite his departure imo.

Realistically regardless of Wilson's allegiances, the UE basketball team has won exactly zero conference titles since he left the program and if he has been involved as a guy who "bleeds purple," there is nothing to suggest that his leaving has had or will have any more of a negative effect than it ever did. Lots of us "bleed purple" who only root for the team, criticize when it fails, applaud when it succeeds and keep coming back for more.
I can't see any separation from UE by Wilson or the staff will make any long-range difference. It's not Wilson hasn't done anything for us recently -- he's talked a nice rah-rah game, but the team is off a 5-win season and is going into the new one without him. If they win 10 games, can we reach a conclusion?
No.

Lots of comments here, and most of it is simply opinion, which is ok with me, as long as we remember a lot of it is based on pure speculation.
I have no problem with Marcus moving on. Sometimes in life our ideal of what a job should be like does not pan out or circumstances change and it is time to turn the page.
I just don't want to burn bridges with a guy that was a great UE player, has mentored kids quite a bit, and is finding a few bumps in the road as he tries to navigate the college recruitment/NIL landscape for John.

Clearly Marcus Wilson has a fondness for UE. How could you not when your number has been hoisted to the rafters? He has a greater fondness for John Bol who has a chance to be showered with cash and glory. History clearly shows that UE is not a swift ticket to the NBA. At best in the portal era, it can be a stepping stone. The odds aren't good but they aren't zero either. Marcus is presumably advising Bol like most of us would our own kids. This is America. Fame, wealth and the people who have it are worshipped. It's the red, white and blue thing to do. I can't hold following a cultural norm against him. His leaving doesn't bother me either. I have never seen him as a coach, at least not one with the requisite fire in his belly. The coaching staff has improved with his exit.

Looks like John will be competing with Overtime Elite as an Ole Miss recruit.
“…With the 2023-2024 high school season approaching, Overtime Elite is expected to compete in the 2023 Border League showcase event, one of the nation’s top preseason events. The Border League is already scheduled for October 13-15th in Las Vegas, Nevada at Bishop Gorman High School, Coronado High School, and other surrounding schools.
Overtime Elite has added multiple high level high school prospects that includes 2024 DaQuan Davis (Providence), 2024 Ian Jackson (North Carolina), 2024 John Bol (Ole Miss), 2025 Tyler Jackson, 2024 Carter Knox, 2024 Kanon Catchings (Purdue), 2026 Adam Oumiddoch, 2024 Naas Cunningham, 2024 Jaden Mustaf, and more...”

Not sure why we keep posting about him. Apparently he never seriously considered UE and has signed with Ole Miss. I don't care any more about him than I do anyone else on their roster. I just hope his coach doesn't strangle or bite him.
