Looks like some power programs have backed away or Bol is no longer interested: UConn, Missouri, Florida, Wake Forest, etc. www.on3.com/news/four-star-c-john-bol-7-foot-2-former-florida-commit-names-top-4-schools/From the linked article: “John Bol, one of the top center prospects in the class of 2024, is down to four schools, his agent Chris Wash told On3. Moving forward, the 7-foot-2 center will consider Georgia Tech, Ohio State, USC, and UTSA.” UT San Antonio?? Really??

JOHN BOL IS NOT INTERESTED IN PLAYING FOR EVANSVILLE WRAP YOUR HEAD AROUND IT AND LET'S MOVE ON! The odds that we will be visited by aliens with pointy ears are pretty slim, but we keep making movies about it. John Bol's story is interesting and if something is interesting to somebody and they want to share it, why would you scream for them to shut up? If Bol isn't interesting perhaps the new Barbie movie might move your needle.

And I am happy not pursuing high profile players (e.g. John Bol) --- a waste of time since the NIL structure will funnel these kids to P5 programs or teams like Overtime Elite. This is not a knock on John -- but reality is that $$ will drive decisions for most of these high profile kids and the P5s have the $ resources.
Give me 15 kids (2 & 3 star) that just want to play ball, get a good education and comfortable with a small NIL deal. Then do all you can to keep them out of the transfer portal...maybe only a couple a year leave, but the rest stay 4 years. The ideal is that a team that has bonded and played together for 3-4 years will occasionally pop and make it to the tourney.
Maybe a bit optimistic? But I think this is the path forward for schools like UE. Of course, Coach Rags proving he has the ability to coach these guys plays a large part in the equation.

This is less about Bol than the Portal -- as I see LSU has snatched two high-profile pitchers for their championship baseball team. The leading programs are always going to be willing to wait for players to grow and mature and then tell the player, just hop on over and get the best deal you can. NIL is important -- and largely uncharted so far at UE -- and well-organized programs will always lure top players. Bol casts a useful light on the process. We have opened a dozen threads to discuss this topic.

ATP - I agree and mentioned it wasn't a knock on Bol, he was simply the well known example. There is $$ out there for high profile players and we cannot compete in that sphere. Unfortunately, in today's environment, a guy like Ja Morant doesn't stay at Murray St.

ATP - I agree and mentioned it wasn't a knock on Bol, he was simply the well known example. There is $$ out there for high profile players and we cannot compete in that sphere. Unfortunately, in today's environment, a guy like Ja Morant doesn't stay at Murray St. Looking back over the last few years if they had NIL, does Domask even GO to Salukiville? Do any of the top guys at Wichita or Creighton in years past even bother if they had NIL options? Or for that matter, do the Aces get Balentine, who could have had some offers after his soph year. Or Colt Ryan? Some of the players who stuck it out through the COVID transfer (joke) rule, yeah ... the Valley and other middies are swamps to the P-5 programs who seed the rosters until the players are needed. We all knew this would happen and it depends on whether CBB is worth our emotional investment. I can't, by birthright, transfer my Aces allegiance, but I can't be overly concerned about whether they compete for anything other than a seat at the conference meetings in August. That doesn't mean we can't enjoy the sport on its own merits and, hopefully, it will be peaceful at 1800 Lincoln this fall. They could start by calling Belknap and get Stan Gouard on the phone.

" JOHN BOL IS NOT INTERESTED IN PLAYING FOR EVANSVILLE WRAP YOUR HEAD AROUND IT AND LET'S MOVE ON! Where did I say UE could still get him? My point is that many in his original Final 8 are gone now, so he is either leaning towards staying with the non-college route and earning 100K each year after he finishes up high school or some of the major schools were growing leery of the apparent NIL games being played.

Committed to Ole Miss and Chris Beard out of nowhere. This recruitment has been nothing short of bizarre and has tons of red flags.
If Marcus goes to work for Chris Beard, I will have lost all respect for him. It’s shameful that Ole Miss even hired him less than a year after he got fired for beating his wife.

What a flip flop - if Dad doesn’t get a job will he de-commit again? Florida to Ole Miss is a step down in the SEC basketball power hierarchy.

Wow .. that's really strange. So ... if John committed to Florida "10,000 percent," and he is only committing "100 percent" to Ole Miss, I wonder how many days this commitment will be for? Trying to do the math now ... If 10,000 X = Y, then 100 Y = number of days ... Hmmm.

It’s certainly been a non-traditional recruitment for John. However, when he signed with OTE he chose the option to remain an amateur so that he could maintain his college eligibility. It just happened a little sooner than we all thought.

4th high school in 4 years (Christian Bros, Sunrise, The Rock, and OTE) & 2nd college commitment in 3 months. Very strange events.
