4th high school in 4 years (Christian Bros, Sunrise, The Rock, and OTE) & 2nd college commitment in 3 months. Very strange events. Imagine if he didn’t have a Full Time Parent guiding him through this process that Thousands of 18yr olds have done by themselves….

I know you can with NIL, but I don’t think most elite prospects are at the point of having an agent heavily involved in their recruitment yet… sad to see Marcus going this route.

The 'slander' comment is a bit snarky, IMO. If Wilson and his "agent" think a public display of the kid's intentions is to their advantage, then make the process public. Who gets what, how much, behind which barn and how often? I base my opinions on what I observe and know. That's hardly slander.

Committed to Ole Miss and Chris Beard out of nowhere. This recruitment has been nothing short of bizarre and has tons of red flags. If Marcus goes to work for Chris Beard, I will have lost all respect for him. It’s shameful that Ole Miss even hired him less than a year after he got fired for beating his wife. It was his fiance. She later recanted the story and said she actually started the fight and that Beard was acting in self-defense. I still think Beard is a dirtbag and Ole Miss should not have hired him so soon. If he was completely innocent, I don't see how Texas could have fired him. Regardless, let the dude prove he isn't a rage monkey for awhile. I guess being the SEC punching bag can get to you though and you take desperate chances.

We’ll never know the full story since she dropped it, but she sure has a lot of motivation to drop the charges… even if it was in self defense, it’s hard to imagine it escalating to the level it did without him being at fault and going overboard in the self defense.

Good point. In the end it didn't matter, Texas still felt there was enough there to fire Beard with cause. They did and Beard did nothing about it. Here is the letter UT sent to Beard's attorney explaining the decision. Interesting as well that they address the attorney's contention that the charges would be dropped. Even without criminal charges, they found the behavior to violate the expectation of conduct they have for a head coach....something McCarty found out about. “Chris Beard engaged in unacceptable behavior that makes him unfit to serve as head coach at our university,” James Davis wrote.
“It is his actual behavior that we consider, not whether some acts also constitute a crime. Whether or not the District Attorney ultimately charges Mr. Beard is not determinative of whether he engaged in conduct unbecoming a head coach at our university,” Davis continued.
“There seems to be an incorrect underlying assumption that the criminal process outcome dictates Mr. Beard’s employment outcome. But these are different processes, where different decision makers are weighing different factors.
“Again, our evaluation of Mr. Beard’s fitness for service is not contingent on whether he is also convicted of a particular crime or whether those charges are dismissed at some point,” Davis wrote.
“Additionally, your letter this morning reveals that Mr. Beard does not understand the significance of the behavior he knows he engaged in, or the ensuing events that impair his ability to effectively lead our program. This lack of self-awareness is yet another failure of judgment that makes Mr. Beard unfit to serve as a head coach at our university.”
“Being a head coach at The University of Texas at Austin is about more than winning games,” Davis wrote. “The privilege of coaching comes with a great responsibility that goes beyond just avoiding improper conduct. A coach is a leader — a leader who develops student athletes’ positive character, supports their education, prepares them for success in lives after graduation, and represents the University of Texas with honor and respect. A coach’s influence is effected through both professional and personal interactions.”Kudos to UT for doing the right thing.

So Marcus quits to devote himself to JB and this is the result? Man this whole situation is strange. Marcus has made some interesting decisions to say the least. Next we will hear he’s joining the abusers staff.

Sad. I really believed. Marcus was on board in assisting with the rebound of UE. I can't figure out why he even coached last year at this point. There has to be more to the situation than meets the eye. We need some inside information on this. I am beginning to think Coaxh R asked him to go.

Man this whole situation is strange. It sure is. I'm playing catch up here guys. I've been a little busy. Is Marcus looking for a job with whatever university Bol commits too? Is he becoming an agent for these kids?

Not sure on that last part, but there is definitely more to this story that we’ll never know. It should’ve been a massive red flag to all of us when the roster wasn’t filled out and he was spending the spring portal recruiting period going on official visits with John instead of recruiting for the program. Pure speculation in my part, but if Rags did ask him to leave, it was only because he told him he needed to be all in on working for the program and not spending all this time going on visits with John and he decided it was better to go with John. Either way, his one year tenure as a coach was incredibly bizarre, and whatever caused him to leave, he should’ve had the foresight to see coming before he accepted the job imo.

Is he becoming an agent for these kids? It’s all speculation that he is looking for a job for John to commit to a school. He is not an agent, but he is back to promoting kids he has close ties to on twitter. More speculation that he somehow benefits from their recruitment, but it’s pure speculation. It could just be good kids from the STL area that he wants to help get recruiting visibility. John does have an agent though that has been publicly handling his recruitment and he decommitted from Florida for unknown reasons, but it sure looks like it was over money/Marcus coaching role.

I will take DJ over him anyhow. Marcus showed his true colors. Ragland saw it too. He said not one word. Marcus is a front runner. Good riddance.

I’m sure Marcus is helping anyway that he can even if he can’t be on staff dedicating 100% of his time. In the recruiting thread we have another kid being recruited by us from Saint Louis. Marcus is the one with strong ties to Saint Louis. Coincidence, possibly.
He didn’t stop bleeding purple just because he is not a full-time assistant on staff. I wish him and John nothing but the best.
Stepping away (for whatever reason) might be the best way for him to help our program.

Roosevelts an STL guy too and leading the recruitment of the STL guys now. Marcus hasn’t said a word about UE since his departure. I don’t think you can say he bleeds purple or doesn’t at this point. We’ll see how the season goes. If he doesn’t comment on the team at all, it’s safe to say he doesn’t bleed purple right now and isn’t helping the staff.
