I can see him going high mid major or bottom tier Big Ten.He couldn't get any playing time at a Top power 5 school, and hes transferring at a bad time.So that might keep him from going to another power 5 school I just saw a kid from transfer from Florida and picked K-State as his destination this week. Talk about cutting it close. At 6'8, if he can play, they'll find a spot for him

I see Kiyron as a strong possibility for UE. It would seem that he saw his playing time would be limited and wanted a better opportunity. Homesickness could be another reason. Regardless, Rags is going to be all over this. I would think UE could find some financial aid for him this year and have him as a "walk-on", and then put him on a full ride for next available scholarship.

I agree with letsgoaces. If Rags and K are in sync about a future at UE, the school will find a way to make it happen this year. With the way the portal is working ALL kinds of things will happen after season’s end, a player or two will leave for various reasons, and a scholly will open up.
Agree that Rags will be all over this, but so will Stan. I’d give the edge to UE due to post-season eligibility and strength/visibility of the MVC.
Having said this, Sampson will make a couple of calls. I don’t see Powell at a lower level team in the SEC, Big10, or ACC. My bet is that he either comes home, or he will join one of his former AAU buds. He could find his way to APSU, Ball St., Miami (OH), Xavier, Murray St., or WKU. Most of them offered him out of HS. Burkhart will also be looking out for a landing spot for him.
I know he’d be a valuable addition at UE. He’s not another Peace, but he needs the right spot, not just a school that wants more size, but with a coach/coaches who will mentor him. Houston has a LOT of talent, and Sampson is skilled enough that he can be really choosy. Guys who can run the court, play both ends, shoot well, and are almost all smooth off the dribble. K was never going to be more than a late-game back up, so I’m glad he’s moving to a place where he fits, contributes, and gets minutes.

Unless I missed it, yesterday Marcus wasn't following Kiyron on Twitter, but today he is.

Why not do the same thing for Kiyron that UE did for Blaise? Slightly different circumstances but the same process. What did we do for Blaise? Blaise went to JUCO in S. Illinois until he could transfer to UE. It was a place him in a “friendly” school and coach to get him some college playing time and work on college courses. He had bounced around so much he needed stability and probably wouldn’t get much PT at UE under you know who. K doesn’t need JUCO for the reasons B did but he would be under scholarship there.

Did UE actually orchestrate Blaise going JUCO with the intent of attending UE after a year? Or did he attend JUCO and then end up being recruited to UE from JUCO? Not saying you’re wrong, just genuinely curious. This is the first I’ve ever heard of this

I’m sure Rags and his coaches will do whatever they can to get K at UE. His play from what I remember fits perfectly into the UE style being developed.
It’s been a while but I believe K was really close to his mother and she was his greatest supporter. I can just see her leading UE cheers at the Ford.

Unless I missed it, yesterday Marcus wasn't following Kiyron on Twitter, but today he is. I looked at his following when the news broke, and no one on UEs staff followed him. If Marcus follows him now, that’s a result of him being in the portal and I’d say we’re interested.

This is the first I’ve ever heard of this It’s been a while but from what I remember Blaise had bounced around some prep schools and the last one he was scheduled to play at shut down it’s basketball program. Blaise committed to UE but there was some issue as to whether he had met the requirements for admission to UE so he enrolled at Lincoln Trail CC in Illinois until he could transfer to UE. I remember there was a thread with lots of comments here that you might want to research for the total story.

About Blaise there was some good posts on the old Purple Ace Place. There is also some info on Google. I couldn’t remember my old password but Google transferred me to the section on Blaise.
He prepped at a Christian school out in Arizona where I live and then was recruited to the Finley prep school in Las Vegas. It was a “basketball” school with a number of NBA players and D-I signees as alumni. While Blaise was at an AAU tournament Finley shut down. Blaise had a few lower level D-I offers and I believe this was about the time he committed to UE. It was after his commitment to the best of my knowledge he enrolled at Lincoln Trail. Was anyone directing his moves? I don’t know.
I’m not sure about the timeline of what happened after the Finley closing but according to 247 Blaise was a 3-star combo guard and I was sure glad we got him. I still am.

Another thing to note is that Coach Burkhart has said nothing but great things about this coaching staff.

I don’t think USI is a good fit at all because they are not eligible for post season play until after he would graduate.
