Just maybe the “A,B, C, D” targets were still active in post season tournaments and could not be contacted. At this point I can wait if it means a coaching improvement. The Lady Aces definitely need an improvement. I'm confident my dog would be an improvement.

Well, tomorrow, it will be two weeks since Spencer said he had 75 applicants. Wonder if he’s sifted through them to select final interviews?
Nah, it’ll be a couple of additional weeks to find that perfect fit.

Spencer may not have a job in a couple of weeks. Is this just speculation?

Spencer's fallback is:
The men's BB team didn't play on Thursday and we have a lot of great players returning. We fired the women's coach after a bad run of luck.
We don't have any money and germs are just ... it's not my fault. The administration will not look at this as failure, but the good-old-college-try. Administrations are pretty dense about sports.
Whoever comes in to coach the women will have the same amount of time to recruit as anyone else, except they need more players. Honestly, I have had to reduce my stress levels this year for other reasons and the women's BB got crowded off the list.

Hopefully, we certainly can’t afford another mistake like that. Certainly need to do more background checks on the finalists this time. Not an easy job to vet new hires. Even our church had an issue after a hire several years ago - it especially happens when you go for that home run hire and you have limited resources, like UE. You usually get what you pay for. So being thorough is likely better than another Walter scenario. But you just never know; but obviously your chances of a good to great hire goes up significantly with good vetting.

Spencer should have known for at least the last two years if not longer that Ruffing wasn't going to be the answer. I remember us talking about it when Marty was fired, and agreeing they should get the men's program fixed first. He should have been in a position to move the minute Ruffing was fired, why else would you have kept him around as long as he did?
I am afraid now the university has a national black eye, especially on the women's side due, to the Jane Doe mess coming out this week. At this point, we know Tyra's background, and she can't do any worse than Ruffing. Put her in place, and work on restoring the reputation of our athletic department and university.

Maybe I was a bit harsh on Spencer. When you are up to your eyeballs in WMC negative publicity, I am sure it is distracting. However, this is part of the job, and an AD, like any other management position, is not paid to stroll through just the good times. Handling adversity is always lurking behind every position of responsibility. Prez P is undoubtedly pulling the strings right now, but Spencer is in the hot seat, and he should be.
There are several pluses to hiring Tyra. They have been discussed, however another is that she is probably untainted by scandal. At the same time, an announcement of her as coach would counter some of the WMC trash.......youngest D1 women’s HC, IU, All-Big10 pedigree, etc. If her background checks out, and if she can bring in a good asst. with experience, UE can put this task in the rear-view mirror. Of course, this all assumes that she would take the job, given the drama at UE right now.

Every time I see that there is a new post on this thread, I think - finally! People are commenting! We have a new coach! And every time I am wrong. (I'm a slow learner.) I cannot think of a coaching search taking this long ever, anywhere. As has been mentioned and as I have said before, how in the world did Spencer not know what he was going to do when he fired Ruffing? As AD he is paid to manage multiple responsibilities. This is past ridiculous. And it is probably true - as more facts emerge on the whole Walter fiasco, the over/under on the length of Spencer's tenure keeps decreasing.

Maybe the hiring is going slow because the pay is so bad. I have no idea what the position will pay, but I imagine most candidates see the Valley schools and the conference in general and see a strong range of pay accordingly. If UE is offering a salary that is less than most HS coaches make then no one is biting. I may be wrong but my money is on poor pay.

Seriously, give Buss a 2-year deal, tell her that if she isn't terrible at it, she can renegotiate for another 3 years. What is complicated about that is, apparently they either offered her that and she's going back to IU or she wasn't offered that and they are looking to bring in the jayvee coach from Princeton.
To be honest, I have no idea what any of that means to the recruiting process, if even they actually DO recruit. Seems like offering a full ride to a qualified young woman would be a matter of calling her, asking if she's heard of Evansville, if she wants to live in the dorm for a year ... and what number she wants to wear.

I don’t think they have got to pay yet; I think they are still whittling the list.

Hey, new to this thread. Didn't actually know there was a space to discuss the womens team. I wasn't sure if anyone had heard any names attached to this job. Love tyra and her rep as a great player, but I'm REALLY wary about hiring a coach in a pretty competitive conference AGAIN that has zero previous head coaching experience. I'm obviously all in for her being on the staff because she will be great for recruiting and personal skill development for the guards, just think maybe we want someone who can tackle a serious rebuild..like I said I have no inside info, but based on what I've seen, there's def a few names I think the admin should be looking at:
Glenn Box [IU ast] Rhett Weirzba [IU ast] * Fahkara Malone [hc ocu] * Matt Bollant [EIU hc] * Rehka Patterson [SEMO hc] Cameryn Whitaker [hc NKU] J Pineda [Louisville ast]
There's a ton more that i would consider but these are coaches I believe we could afford and appeal to that would do a decent job. The starred ones have ties to UE. Bollant is already stealing the best recruits from the area and convincing them to go to EIU, and he was formerly the head coach of the illini. Of course I think if you can convince good players [like Abby wahl from Heritage hills] to go the crap hole campus that is EIU imagine what he could do here. Either way we need to name SOMEONE so they can get started before the 21-22 season gets started, jeez lol
