Let me start out with I have no inside information on this. However, since it has been mentioned that there might be a delay in a hiring because of the tournament going on and Tyra has Indiana connections, I pulled up the current IU assistant coaches. Current IU Women's Basketball Coaches
It's worth noting that Rhet Wierzba has a UE connection. He served as director of operations on the men's side at UE for two seasons (2005-07). Ashley Williams is a young head coach for them but might have been at IU the last couple of years that Tyra was there as it says: "Williams served as an assistant coach at Furman in the 2019-20 season after she completed her two-year graduate manager role at Indiana (2017-19)." Glenn Box is the other IU assistant coach and he is in his sixth year - so he should know Tyra as well. So just food for thought. Again I have no inside information on this. Thoughts?

I can find no fault in looking at IU for our next coach. The university has surfaced as a contender and that means kids are talking. I don't know the nature of the 17-year-old girl but getting a chance to play for somebody who has IU connections isn't a terrible idea.
I would also assume that IU would be supportive of anybody who advances out of their system, which could mean they steer some players toward UE. Getting two or three good talents goes a long way. The Aces women's team has a couple of good players already.

Can you imagine what it would be like if we had gone this long without a men's coach?

An interview with Mark Spencer just posted in the C & P. I'll post an excerpt below since you must be a subscriber to read the story.
More than 75 people have applied and a national committee is vetting the candidates to find the next coach. Spencer said he’ll likely conduct all initial interviews within the next week before finalists are invited to campus to see the facilities.
“Bringing someone in is always a two-way recruitment,” Spencer said. “They want the job, but we have to sell it to them. We’re hoping in the next couple of weeks to get a coach in place as quickly as possible so they can start filling some of those empty roster spots and fill their staff.”
Spencer believes UE offers top-notch facilities, even though the women’s basketball team has played its games on campus at Meeks Family Fieldhouse in recent years instead of Ford Center. He’s happy with the conference they compete in and where they play.

So Bunky Harkleroad is available...know nothing about him/her, but that name should be good for at least 50 tickets sold.

IS THERE ANY WAY WE CAN GILD THIS COMMENT AND MAYBE ATTACH IT TO THE 'WELCOME TO UE' SIGN THAT DIDN'T GET UP UP NEXT TO THE JERRY SLOAN WAY SIGN THAT ALSO DIDN'T GET PUT UP? Why was my keyboard on CAPS lock?
On account of, this is just so amazing.

It's a little late for "as quickly as possible." Actually, a lot late.

Sorry, but if you have to "sell" a D-1 Head Coaching job to an applicant, then maybe the "job" needs to be improved.

UNC, Texas, IU; all of them could say they have 75 candidates for a job. But they don’t. You make a statement like Spencer has when you either don’t have the time, or you don’t MAKE the time to work the process and GET SOMEONE HIRED! Yes, as someone noted, it’s only been 3-4 weeks (officially) since Ruffing was fired, but the comment was also made that UE is an attractive job and we can attract someone who brings EVERY trait we want in the next coach. However, unless Spencer is waiting for someone specific who is Recovering from a tense role in the Women’s Dance, we are behind the curve in terms of sense of urgency. Good Programs move more quickly than this, and IF this delay is really necessary, IMHO, we should expect to be blessed with a “WOW” person as next women’s coach because Spencer has taken lots of time to get it RIGHT.

The delay is inexcusable. Spencer had literally years to think about this hire. He should have had candidates A, B, C and D on speed dial before letting Ruffing go. It is a massive building project and every day this is delayed is one more day the new coach is further behind.

Just maybe the “A,B, C, D” targets were still active in post season tournaments and could not be contacted. At this point I can wait if it means a coaching improvement. The Lady Aces definitely need an improvement.
