Plus, in-conference scouting reports are very good. For Gage it probably just says: Take away his open three-point shots. That's really all they need to do defensively on him. "All they need to do" actually impacts our offense quite a bit. Not being able to help off a shooter in the corner creates more difficult defensive rotations, leaving more space in the paint for drives or post-ups. Now of course this is predicated on Gage being able to hit 40% of his 3s which he has not this year, but having somebody stand in the corner and be a threat can create significantly better chances for everybody else.

The problem is he’s a one dimensional player and when he doesn’t make threes it really hurts the team. Defensively, he’s OK, but a lot of times he’s a liability because of his height and he gets beat off the dribble.

The point he was a 40% 3 point shooter in conference play, the best 3 point shooter on the team. Well I did look over the game logs the games we were most competitive in and the one game we won were his best 3 point shooting games. So there is a reason he shoots 3’a because he was successful last year. Then why isn’t he shooting anywhere close to that this year? (For the record, I wish he would shoot like last year, it would really help and I think he is shooting below what he is capable of-BUT I wish he stopped acting like every 3 he makes is the game winner of Game 7 of the NBA finals- it’s ridiculous)

My brother in Christ, Gage didn’t hit one shot last year that meant anything. They won 5 games. No one tried against us last year If you have a reason that he is shooting 10% Worse this year with better players around him and another year of experience, please state your case. (Truthfully I don’t like making a case against players that are trying, but you are boxing me into a corner here with your hubris)

If you want to consider the MVC conference games as meaningful then you will see any of the games that we were close and the one MVC win we did have that Bobe shot the three well. I don’t have to prove why he is 10% less because i honestly don’t know, but back to part of my original statement, is maybe the reason he getting minutes is because he was a 40% 3 point shooter in conference games last year. I hope you have a good night brother!

If I can step in - I honestly think you are both right. They are playing him because they expect him to hit shots at some point cause he shot 40% last year. And on the other hand if you look at his stats a lot of his makes were in blow out games. Similar to the 4-4 performance he had this year in the beat down game against Murray. Not saying all of his shots were meaningless cause he did shoot well in the UNI game and a couple that were close - but he definitely benefited from a lot of shots in blow out games. Now, I think this really comes down to would you rather play Bobe or Haffner because for the most part those two have been subbing for each other especially lately. My choice is Haffner all day long. Here is why. I think he has the ability to move away from the ball much better than Bobe, he can finish at the rim much better, he rebounds better, and he initiates the break better. Bobe is still better defensively but it's not like Haffner is completely lost on defense in my opinion - he was at times early in the year but he has improved. Lastly, Bobe is a 5th year senior. this is it - Haffner is a sophomore. If we are truly "rebuilding" how in the world does playing a 5th year guy over a guy you are counting on as a key cog in the future make any sense. Lastly, if we are going to look at stats Haffner shot 46% for the year from three last year. So if we are going to go by last years stats he's got the edge there as well. eiupanthers.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/cameron-haffner/8361That is my 2 cents. I have nothing against Bobe - he's worked hard and given a lot to the team. I don't mind him being in the rotation 10-15 minutes or so - but I don't like him in the starting lineup. Him and Thomas together doesn't work. He's not bad with some of the other groups but him with that starting group is a problem. It's also worth noting - when we were having success earlier in the year he (Bobe) was playing in that 10-15 minute range for the most part with a few lower minute games and a few more than 20. gopurpleaces.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/gage-bobe/6075

Will someone explain to me Why Bobe gets any playing time? Probably because the coaching staff believes he is better than the other players. I would like to add see more of Braylon but that doesnt seem to be happening. It's not good that he sits on the bench which means he isn't better than what we are putting on the floor.

Second, Haffner was in the OVC last year not the MVC, I do feel if Haffner starts connecting with consistency he will be back, as you can see against UNI he played a lot of 2nd half minutes. I’m just one the falls in the category of the Coaches know basketball better than me, I mean this is their livelihood, do you not think they want to succeed? all of them could set themselves and kids up for life if they are successful. They spend hours practicing, watching game tape, discussing among themselves and then follow through with the game plan. I will leave that worry for people that want something to continually gripe about if they don’t agree with starters and substitute patterns.

First, if you go look at the game logs surprisingly Bobe’s best game were in our 1 win and the tight games, there was about 5 of them in conference play. Response: That actually tells me that Bobe is a big part in the losses and the games that are not tight. So, it is how you look at it - hence, perspective.
Second, Haffner was in the OVC last year not the MVC, I do feel if Haffner starts connecting with consistency he will be back, as you can see against UNI he played a lot of 2nd half minutes. Response: Good point.I’m just one the falls in the category of the Coaches know basketball better than me, I mean this is their livelihood, do you not think they want to succeed? all of them could set themselves and kids up for life if they are successful. I will leave that worry for people that want something to continually gripe about if they don’t agree with starters and substitute patterns. Response: Another good point. You would definitely think that the coaches would know best. However, Aces44 and Tom make good points, especially about Bobe and Thomas starting together should not happen. The combined 17-0 deficit at the beginning of both halves that the starters got us in doesn't lie. That starting unit is not working. So why would you not want to try something different?

All fair points that's generally why I don't post much anymore. I try to stay out of all this unless I see something that really doesn't make much sense to me. But I know the coaches know a whole lot more than me - no question. I think the main thing we can all hope for is both of them shoot a whole lot better and start making shots. If that can happen it's really going to help the team especially with Ben coming back (hopefully). I just think Haffner has a whole lot of upside from what I have heard from people attending practice and from what I see from him.
