So ve vas der veeners, 9-3 over the Lipscomb Teabags.
Essentially a bullpen game but gotta be really happy with Macauley, in his first start. Eric Roberts a home run and a shutdown 8th in relief when they needed it. Fougerrouse had some big hits.
Big series at Braun this weekend against Terrible Haute that might establish 3rd place heading into 3 series that, on paper, are winnable.

Shallenberger is out again. His dad had mentioned he hurt his ankle in the last series presumably in a collision. Hopefully it is not too serious and he doesn’t miss much time. Up 1-0 after four on only one hit (not a HR). It was probably on the fly ball to LF with Borgstrom. I saw Shally limp a little on it but he stayed in the game. So it is probably sore. That was the ball that looked like nobody caught it, the guy rounded the bases and 5 minutes later, the ump signaled a catch. I was not able to listen to the game. What happened that the call was delayed?

What happened that the call was delayed? It was hard to tell if he dropped it after the catch since they bumped into each other. The replay was necessary although I had no idea how good that was. They finally concluded that Borgstrom caught it. There was no way you could prove it from the camera angle that I saw.

Anyone could look this up, but since I did ... you don't need to. UE's season/individual stats. Hug and Roberts are still the top hitters and both would probably be 2-3 if Shallenberger had the numbers. Fougerousse is easily the best transfer find the Aces have had in a long while. The pitching is decent and maybe not as good as we expected. They can take 2 out of 3 from anybody. Conference stats tell a little different story. Bradley, near the bottom, has a couple of good hitters who don't provide much thump. I don't take much stock in batting average. Being on base in college ball is a good place to be. StandingsUE can move into 3rd place this weekend, but the odds don't favor it. The Sickos are on a roll, and it's one of their best teams this century. I would be very happy with 2 wins this weekend (home games) over Treetop Tech. Saluki State is home to Jailbird Normal. We are also rooting for Belmont to wipe out the Murrays. ScheduleWell, we are rooting for everybody to lose except the Aces and maybe Idaho State. I am a big Idaho State fan. Aces have missed a couple of opportunities so far, but then again, everyone can say that. Valley baseball is very good and there are a lot of future pro players on these rosters. I can safely say that at least 3 Aces will be drafted somewhere along the way.

Taking 2 of 3 from RPI#9 Trees would be great. At this point I don't see us catching them in the standings, so it may be beneficial for our RPI if they keep winning (outside of us beating them this weekend.)

It's just a dreadful place and should be shoved into Illinois.

Aces could be facing dire straits if swept by the Trees, placing them among the #8 seed MVC Post-season cut-off mark. mvc-sports.com/standings.aspx?path=baseballHopefully, Shallenberger's bat will be present. Although ISU starting pitching has been excellent in their current 14 game streak, I doubt they've faced a lineup w/ as many LH hitters as UE. All of ISU's #1-3 starters are RH, and their long closer's ( Cutts & Holycross) are RH's. Their top short reliever is LHer Jared Spencer. Statistically, this should be one helluva series! Btw, a glance @ the Syc's show three (3) players from the area:
Marx (Mater Dei-reserve catcher) Brown (Central-reserve 1B; has been filling in for an injured Rivera) Miller (Boonville-#3 starting P)

Aces home Wednesday to Butler, a non-con thriller that will help the hitter stretch out for an important weekend series. The Butler website offers this preview. Cade Thune vs. Tyler Denu. Thune appears to be a short-term starter with very few innings, so expect the Bullies to piggyback him early. Butler is not very good this year and hasn't had a lot of luck over recent seasons against the Aces. Denu was in the rotation until this week but a poor effort or two puts him on the hill Wednesday. Hoping he can get his command in order for the last 9 MVC series. Of more import is the weekend 3-gamer at Normal against the Redbirds, who are near the bottom of the Valley. Although, they did take a chunk out of SIU's conference hopes last weekend. Here is the down-and-dirty on Wednesday's tussle at Braun. ESPN+, weather allowing. If they rain out, this one would be cancelled. butlersports.com/news/2023/5/2/baseball-evansville-to-host-butler-wednesday-night-on-espn.aspx

Flat out copyright theft from the GPA website about today's game.
Evansville will bring a 25-18 overall record into Wednesday night's game. The Purple Aces are 2-2 on the current homestand, which began with a 9-3 win over Lipscomb last Tuesday and a 2-1 win over nationally-ranked Indiana State, before the Sycamores were able to rally to win the weekend series. Sophomore designated hitter/catcher Evan Waggoner led UE offensively over the four games, hitting .385 last week. Waggoner will enter this week's action on a streak where he has hit safely in each of his last eight starts, posting a .448 batting average (13-for-29) during those eight games. Junior second baseman Kip Fougerousse was not far behind last week, hitting .357 in the four contests, and he has hit safely in 11 of UE's last 12 games overall with a .415 average (17-for-41), two doubles, four home runs and 16 RBI.

Evansville leading 4-1 in the middle of the eighth inning. Butler is only 9-34 this year - so hopefully we close this one out.
Update: Aces win 4-1. Four pitchers hold Butler to two hits and one run. Borgstrom with a home run and Hord with two of our six hits (single and double).

Crisply played by the Aces against a team lacking a lot of experience.
The UE offense is in a general funk of late the typical run-making ability is lacking.
Pitching = very good. Denu, Macauley, Hansmann and Hardman all sharp today.

Mid-week fiesta at home (6 p.m.) against Bellarmine. The Aces launched artillary at the Knights back in March, winning 14-2 in Louisville. I hardly expect that to happen twice but this is a nice chance for the bats to get into a groove ahead of Friday's opener against Bradley.
Evansville will send graduate RHP John MacCauley (1-1, 7.58 ERA) to the mound on Tuesday night in his second start of the year. MacCauley has not allowed a run in his last 6.2 innings of work over his last two appearances. He tossed three perfect innings last Wednesday in UE's 4-1 win over Butler.
ESPN+ for those who would rather watch baseball than complain about the transfer portal.
