I think we will see another departure....meaning that I believe the Aces will sign another impact player for next season. You just believe that out of optimism or you have information that makes you believe that? I’m very optimistic too. Just curious. I think we’ll have at least 3 more scholarships open up this spring and with those we’ll get a good point guard, another shooter, and a quality big out of the portal. That’s what I’m hoping for at least. We get that, and we can get back to hovering around .500 in The Valley next season imo.

It's just a belief that Marcus has dedicated a huge amount of time into recruiting, as has Snow. We are just now seeing some positive results. I have seen it before with other teams is that when you land a top player, somebody else will want to jump on board. Of course, I could be dead wrong and it wouldn't be the first time. Hope I am right though, I do feel it will happen. So great to have some awesome news to rekindle our spirits.

This is definitely just the beginning of some awesome recruiting gets over the next few years. I really think all the guys they got on visits but committed elsewhere like JQ Roberts and Joey Hart would give us a serious look again if they ever ended up in the portal. Only a matter of time until we land a transfer stud they put a lot of time into when they were a HS student.

I don’t have any information on who’s staying or who’s going, but there are a couple who are not up to helping the Aces move to the upper half of the Valley. Under most years these players would sit comfortably on the bench and get limited playing time as a reserve. This is in exchange for a free education.
I come from the business world. When employees are not adding value to the company or a change in direction is needed to make the company profitable, some are encouraged to seek employment elsewhere. I have no problem with someone being asked to find a new school and team to play for. Hopefully it’s a win/win for each party.
Coach Rags may be in a situation to allow the Aces to become more “profitable” by bringing in a few more superior athletes at the expense of others. This may sound harsh but the success of the UE basketball program may be on the bubble now. By this I mean we could be taking a giant leap forward if today’s announcement brings a couple more top level players.
I will not badmouth anyone currently on the team. All of them are fine young men who are working hard to achieve their goals, but team success has to come first. To anyone who may leave the team, I wish them well.

First of all, congrats to the coaching staff for a great pick-up. As far as schollys, let’s walk through the time line. Day, Jackson, and Cuff all verballed prior to Beachamp entering the portal. Cuff verballed Nov 10, Beachamp Dec7. I could be wrong, but that leads me to believe Ragland knew he had 3 confirmed openings at the start of the season. That probably means 2 of 3 listed Seniors not named Coleman weren’t coming back. Beachamp’s departure made 4. I believe at this point in time we are all square. I agree with you we are all good.Seniors that won't be back,Blaise, Smith,Bobe,Coleman. Plus I could see one of the red shirts leaving.

I think you're spot on with more talent will want to come play here. As I mentioned in another thread, when someone commented on Kenny not impressing them with his late game production. Kids want to play with other capable and talented players. It makes their life easier and allows them to shine without being the total focus of the other five stars. I'm not sure if we will open scholarships. But, if we do, Chuck's commitment will bring others our way. I can't understate how big a pick up this is for us.

Agree. Chuck looks like a bigger version of DJ, and he appears to be the prototype player that MVC teams have built around for years. If his HS skills translate into D1, we have recruited 4 guys who can change our trajectory in a couple of years.
Concur 100% with aceshigh comments. We know Rags and staff will handle roster pruning with class, but that’s what it’s going to take for UE to become relevant again.

I really believe that if Rags had been hired back in April or even March instead of being hired at the end of June because of the backwards nature of what we went through this year, I really believe this roster would have been completely flipped. But with the late arrival, he had to hold on to the players that we had because it would have been a real bad look going into August with only 6 players. Things are turning around, and fast.

Exactly my thoughts too. Pretty normal for mass roster flipping when a coach comes into a situation like ours. The new coach owes the old coaches players nothing, and their scholarships aren’t guaranteed unless the new coach wants them. Rags came in so late that it would’ve left the players that stood by the school during the transition at a serious disadvantage to be looking for a new school in June. It also would’ve been very hard to find replacements that late too. He did the right thing and stood by Todd’s roster for this season, but he also has the full right to gut the roster as much as he sees fit this March too.

Fantastic commitment. Sect3purple, I hope this calms your fears of never landing a quality recruit again at UE. Municup14, like I said in another post, you need to have trust in Rags and his assistants. Yes, exactly what our program needs to take a giant step forward. Several posts mentioned the "magnet" effect of a player like Bailey drawing in other talented players. I feel that finally the Purple Aces may be on their way to bringing great basketball to our city, conference, and, might as well say it...maybe even to the nation. Would be great to dance again!

In 2023, you don't have to be Carnac the Magnificent to predict transfers and roster turnover. The portal represents an average of 4 transfers per DI school. It is what it is. Roster shuffling via the portal isn't necessarily a bad thing. What is the difference between 4 players transferring and 4 players remaining but never playing? Many assume that our transfers will be from among those who have been tethered to the bench. The arrival of Chuck Bailey could nudge away someone who has been getting minutes but expects those minutes to diminish next season. I won't be losing sleep over something this far out of my control. Besides, student athletes have reached adulthood and shouldn't be faulted for making choices and learning from the consequences. It's part of life. Like all of us, they will hit homeruns along the way and they will strike out. I wish them all well.

I will say; let’s not put too much on this young man’s shoulders. We still need talent, the ones we have and the ones coming in. I read something recently and less than 20 freshman are averaging double figures, less than 10 of them are 5 star guys.
It may be a year or two before Chuck can carry us. So let’s not push some of our productive guys out just yet.

If anything, he’ll make his production better by having better players around him. He’s going to take all of Bobes minutes and prevent Mcintire/Moncrief from taking on a larger role.
