We’ve already shown the $ loss in ticket sales if they keep Lick vs his buyout$ may be reasonably close. Unless Lick pulls a huge recruit out of his hat very soon…. Then that might change things. Short of that, I don’t think our current recruits are in high enough demand to leave if Lickliter leaves.

I'm surprised because this appears to be a lateral move from a larger public university (11,000 students and growing?) to a small (and getting smaller?), private university. Sometimes people move to get experience in a different sector - so coming from a west coast middle size public to a midwest private would be positive change because, if he's successful here, he's proven he can work in another kind of ecosystem and in a different sector. Then the next jump might be a LARGE public or a nationally known private university - or perhaps somewhere on the east coast. He also has the benefit of being able to influence campus more directly and make larger impacts - there's less of a structure around him and insulating him, no associate vice deans, assistant vice directors, etc. The AD can help set campus policy and decisions at UE. So that's a bonus to get more and more experience.

I’m sure he sees this as an opportunity to add the accomplishment of the rebuild to his resume. If he’s successful, it could position him well to rebuild his hometown Memphis Tigers once they are inevitably hit with sanctions by the NCAA for their various cheating scandals.

I certainly liked what I read and heard today! I almost forgot what optimism was like.
It will be interesting to see how things are handled with Lickliter. Ziggy mentioned how important it was to get the train moving along right from the start. If TL is the conductor of that train, it will probably have a clock violation.
From just interpreting what Ziggy said today, I feel a head coaching change will be coming very soon. I don't think Ziggy wants TL determining/controlling how successful, or unsuccessful, his UE AD start is. Ziggy surely knows how Spencer's bad MBB decisions were his undoing, among other things.

From what I have seen/heard so far...I like him. He likes us (UE). We all like the Purple Aces. He shares my idea all along - Evansville is a Sleeping Giant. I can't agree more!

I was just about to post that myself. Just finished listening to it. Loved everything he had to say. Excited to see him get to work

Thanks for posting the Press Conference, just a few comments:
1) Ooops on the Bakersfield reference instead of Evansville early in his talking points 2) Who is Bob Jones that he thanked - I haven't lived in Evansville since 1980 so I don't know the power brokers. 3) I think the athletes will really like him due to his seemingly open door policy and concerns for their academic and athletic success. 4) Hopefully the Community and Alumni $ get behind him and we can get Men's BB out of the cellar back into a annual competitive mode.

He’s the former ONB CEO. They renamed Walnut St from Riverside to the Ford Center to be called “Bobe Jones Way” in his honor recently. Don’t know too much about him but I assume he’s a major philanthropist in the area to have a street renamed after him. I saw other videos from local news that showed someone I didn’t recognize sitting next to the podium. I assume it was him and he has made some contributions to make this search possible.

Thanks - I chuckled at the fact you typed Bobe Jones Way - Gage Bobe is really becoming a legend right up there with Humes. Sloan, Doerner, Smallwood, Leaf, Buse, Simmons, Haffner and Wilson.

I suspect, but don’t know, that Jones was a key member of the search committee, but moreover, if there was ever a need to pony up $$s, whether to buy out a contract, subsidize 500-1000 season tickets, or simply raise money for athletics expenses, Jones would be the wrangler. If you have a potential wrangler, and you ANTICIPATE some uncertainty, it always helps to have the money man as part of the decision making process.
The into was good, just right, in fact. Having lived in Memphis, I’m sure that being back to within a 5 hour car ride from family was a BIG part of Izzy’s decision. He was making $150k+ at Bakersfield, but $750k will get you a 1600 sq. ft. Bungalow in the LA area, vs. 3000 sq. ft. In the Ville. A lateral salary move would be equivalent to a $30-35k raise. Plus, raising kids in Evansville will be a whole lot better environment.
Izzy is right. UE is a sleeping giant, and he seems to have the right temperament and enthusiasm for the job at hand.

We’ll in two days he’s already communicated more than his predecessor did in years.

Wow, it's an actual communication from UE! This is a very good sign from Dr. Ziggy on his lst day! Thank you, @evansvillead ! You HAVE done your research!

I finally watched the whole introductory press conference. He had me worried when he thought he was in Bakersfield, but he recovered well and just seems very likeable, approachable and passionate about what he does. He did not once call us Evanston or Evansville University, big plusses in my book.
