I'm surprised because this appears to be a lateral move from a larger public university (11,000 students and growing?) to a small (and getting smaller?), private university. He’s from Tennessee. Maybe he wanted to be closer to home? I’m sure with cost of living taken into account that he is getting a substantial raise in the quality of life for his family even if he is making less. $200k/year gets you a huge house in Newburgh and a small house in a decent neighborhood in California. He might see the opportunity for a rebuild as something to add to his resume to position himself to become a P5 AD too. Being closer to home could be a driver. Regarding salary, you assume the comp is the same and not adjusted for cost of living, which is probably incorrect. Regardless, and more to the point, I'm told that Bakersfield isn't exactly a glamor CA city, which could be a factor.

I’m sure he probably got compensated more in CA, but with the budget issues of the CSU system and Bakersfield being low on the totem poll, I’m sure he will be making more when you adjust compensation for COL in Evansville was my point. You are right about the less glamorous of the city though. Looks like it’s just you’re average western desert city and far from the “California Dream” of LA or SF.

Let's hope that he can get the ball rolling set the Aces on the right path. It's nice to see some progress. Is the smoke starting to clear?

I’m interested to see how he handles communicating the Lickliter decision. I think that should tell us a lot about how he plans to operate. Will he fire him quickly? Will he come out within the next week or two saying he’s evaluated the situation and believes he deserves to be coach next season for x, y, and z reason? Or will he just not address the issue again and we’ll find out Todd’s our coach still from the silence/inaction? I hope it is one of the first two. I’m fine with keeping Todd at this point but please come out and communicate that is your decision and why you made it.

Not even finished watching the press conference and I'm sold. I like this guy. How do you watch the press conference? I’d like to rewatch it after work. I watched it streaming live from one of the local news channels. You might be able to find it on youtube.

During the press conference, he said he would get to know the local sports reporters very soon. I think he will be a communicator. He seems like a very personable guy.

I looked at the records of the men's and women's basketball teams over the last 5-6 years. Not overly impressive. The men's coach has been there the entire time he has been AD. All the "administrative" stuff like fundraising, community involvement, etc is great. A winning product on the floor? Not so much. I'm keeping an open mind and high hopes. I'm not from Missouri but he's gonna have to "show me." I hope it is fast.

They had barely been a D1 program for 5 years when he took over and he helped lead them to a better conference while fundraising for facilities improvements. Hopefully his fundraising couple with the fact that basketball is #1 priority in Evansville will lead to a successful turn around of the program. I’m sure from his time at Memphis that he clearly understands the expectations at a basketball first school.

The new AD is just the kind of Person UE needs. Remember he will be the AD for all sports at UE and not just the men’s basketball.
Being from Tennessee and Educated at Memphis he must understand collegiate sports. While Memphis U of (State) has had its athletic issues over time, Ziggy was not in charge. I lived in Memphis during the 1970s and can guarantee they loved their sports there.
Our new basketball HC whether it be next year or the year after will be the measuring stick for all future sports at UE. We have all been expressing the need for a young, energetic AD who would do the work to get us to the next level. My money says Ziggy will be the one to do it. It’s time to get behind him so he can show us the way.

Hell yeah get that train moving full speed ahead. I’m not sure replacing Todd this late in the game is in the best interest of the train, but I’m all for supporting whatever this guys vision is. If he thinks he can make an impact hire in early May, then let’s do it!

I agree and I think he will have a sit down with TL and tell him that while he may be a good man the train is leaving the station and that Todd needs to be waving to the passengers and not to those at the station. Todd has to step aside if he really cares about UE as he says and get this ball rolling. If UE needs to come up with money to pay out Todd’s contract then they need to get on the wagon to get it done. As the song goes “Time’s a Wastin”
