How is there any chance of a medical redshirt when he's played half the season? I don't recall ever seeing that before.

1. IMHO, Dre came to Evansville with a one-year plan, sold by Walter, that he had a chance to be MVC POY and immediately be looked upon by NBA scouts as worthy of a serious look. Don't know what he will do now. He might try Europe. He may stay because he likes TL's plan. There's every likelihood that he's keeping in touch with Walt, but the idea of sitting out again becomes problematic for Dre (because of the AGE factor). My personal view is that he'd be better off staying, but none of us have any control over the dynamics.
2. I do not think that DeAndre is faking it. His frame might be more fragile than other bigs. His situation may be that he just wants to avoid any lasting physical effects, and he knows this season is pretty much a wash. Better to save himself until he's 100% ready for a. next season or b. going pro in Europe. My question is not whether he is hurt, but why the Ath. Dept. isn't more transparent about the extent of the injury and what type of therapy he is receiving. Schools provide details about injuries ALL THE TIME. Ankles, knees, whatever....there is absolutely no harm in letting the fans know the extent of Dre's condition.
3. The idea that Walter is going to pull Dre somewhere else and ride his coattails into an asst. coaching job doesn't hold water, again, IMHO. Walt might go back to an NBA asst. job, but another NCAA school?...VERY unlikely. He's got to get out from under the current issues before he's back in the college game, and the NCAA hasn't even weighed in on the Title 9 situation. A couple of years from now, maybe, but not now. He blew his chance and will now sit in the penalty box for a while. Now, would Walt make a couple of calls for DeAndre? Kelvin Sampson? Huggins? The answer is yes. The attraction of another school could be as simple as Playing time and easier academics.

It seems likely that the NCAA could give waivers to all of Walter's recruits so they could transfer and not have to sit out next year. Under the circumstances, I think most folks would think that is fair--especially considering that the NCAA has given waivers in much less egregious situations. That would give DeAndre instant eligibility and two years to play. And yes, I also believe that P5 teams would be drooling over DeAndre, especially if he gets a waiver. I know that we only saw a small sample of what he can do, but the Aces have not ever had a 6'9" talent who can run the floor and do it all like DeAndre.

But again, what does this have to do with DeAndre's injury?

I'm trying to think of similarly talented 6'9" players at UE. Richie Johnson is the one that comes to mind, although he was surrounded by more talent (Brad Leaf, Theren Bullock, and others) and not the star of the team like DeAndre is.

Any idea what year that was? Was it a reg season or exhibition game? I went thru the PU records & couldn't find it.
Wasn't Wellemeyer on that '71 NCAA Champ squad w/ Buse?
I recall John in HS, as Castle played in the SIAC "B Division" w/ Jasper, H-burg, Tell City, Boonville, Princeton, Rockport, Mt. Vernon. Wellemeyer could've been a 3-sport star @ EC (FB, BB & BA). He was THAT good! I'll never forget while playing CF for Castle as a soph in a game @ then rundown League Field. He corked a HR in RCF that must've went 100'
beyond the fence off our ace knuckleballer, KEITH BRUMLEY (who played FB/QB for Kansas State).
In FB Wellemeyer was a punishing FB...6'3" 220...any college's dream in the backfield. Our coaches called him a "Hoss"...after Bonanza's "Hoss Cartright."
The NCAA data doesn't include games against D-2 teams, which UE was that year. It was quite early in the season and I think Purdue claimed Mount was sick or something. It probably was about something else but it doesn't matter. It wasn't some grand conspiracy. Maybe he did have the flu. What I recall most about Wellemeyer was his use of the backboard for a lot of his shots. He might have been one of the last guys to be really good at that.

If DeAndre is faking his injury, he's also kind of in violation of some sort of conditions applying to his scholarship. Not clear on what that is or could be but if the AD or the university is in on that, then the scam is pretty bizarre. If the AD or the university sees there's a little game being played, they can simply yank his scholarship.
I can't even imagine there are knuckle draggers around who think this is a fake injury. That speaks to boggling of the mind.
And if he transfers, .... see ya! They're setting records now for consecutive losses.

Whether he stays or leaves, he's going to test the nba combine (as he should). I hope he comes back so he can improve his stock but if not I still think he can be successful in the nba

The NCAA does not grant waivers to recruits if a coach gets dismissed. Only if a player is not invited to rejoin the team does the "run off' rule apply. I am still confused of why you feel Deandre wants to transfer - all you mention is because of how good he is...is that your only rational? As an earlier post suggested, why is he still taking classes and not left the program yet if that was his intention. And to what benefit is it for him to fake an injury?"..he sits out regardless. Your obsession of P5 schools drooling over him seems rather bizarre....

I am so adamant that he's never playing for UE again. There's no telling what McCarty said/did to get him here. I would bet money the kid's still in contact with McCarty. So bad of a deal. I was hoping all of this would have worked out.
I never dreamed of anything like this Title IX crap happening. I was leery of possible recruiting violations happening, but nothing like this.
Another loss today, does anybody think we'll win another game this season? I am starting to think we may not.

I am an avid reader of this forum but this is my first post. It simply boggles my mind that so many of the posters are naive enough to believe that 1) DeAndre’s back is injured and 2) That DeAndre is ever going to play in an Aces uniform again. Write this down—he will transfer to a P5 school and Walter will probably try to ride with him to get an assistant coaching position at the P5. I wish that this wasn’t the case but DeAndre is as good as gone. We all need to accept it and stop dreaming that he will return to play for the Aces. Where do these wild conspiracy theories come from? You are arguing that DeAndre has been faking an injury for the entire MVC season? Which may include having radiologists and orthopedic doctors, not to mention the coaching staff in on the conspiracy? If he wants to transfer next year, what advantage would there be to not playing now? He would have to sit out next year either way. His injury and the possibility of leaving the program have nothing to do with each other. Players want to play. And what evidence is there that he is not injured? I mean, it has been a bizarre season for sure, but if you want to talk about naïveté, falling for these kinds of conspiracy theories would definitely qualify. Deandre limped onto to the floor before the game and gingerly took he place on the bench when sitting. Whether he plays again this season I don't know but he is not faking an injury.

Oh I think we will win 2 or 3 games in the MVC. Maybe even 1 in the tourney. We scored 52 point sin the 2nd half The Players are starting to turn it around. Todd has them believing in themselves again.
