I find it hard to believe that Schertz directly told a sports reporter that he is "going to SLU and bringing the team with him." (or maybe E-Villans original post on this is incorrect?)
Doyel is simply trying to stay relevant on the ISU story and maybe a bit jealous that McAfee has an open door on interviews with Cream Abdul Jabbar/Milk Chamberlain.
Not inclined to dispute any of this, other than to say, I know Doyel well enough to believe he isn't going to invent an interview. He just won't. If he did that, I will be severely critical of him and hope he gets the sh**ty end of history's final story. But the idea that Schertz is "taking his team with him" is the product of a lot of manufactured conversations. Avila was interviewed on some TV sports blog and used the term "next year" several times when discussing ISU sports. Doyel staying relevant would be possible but it isn't like ISU is a closely kept secret around Indy, where the NCAA has its phone numbers written on the Star's walls.
Fair enough in regards to Doyel...and will leave it at that with no reason to beat a dead horse.
Pat McAttee interviewed Avila yesterday (someone posted the link on another thread.) Found it interesting that they were discussing ISU's team next year and how the success this year is something for the team to build upon. They kept away from talking about the rumors, but it must of been on everyone's mind. The SLU message board on this topic is over 50 pages long. They have been hanging on to the rumors for 3 weeks with 90% in favor of the pending Schertz hire.

Western Kentucky's Steve Lutz takes the Oklahoma State job. Western wastes no time in promoting assistant Hank Plona. Prior to joining Lutz's staff at WKU, Plona spent 8 years as head coach at Indian Hills CC, where he put together a very impressive 225-35 record.
This is a game that needs to be played every year. There are a lot of Western alums in this area.
Murray assistant Jonathan Mattox going back to Morehead, as head coach this time. He replaces Preston Spradlin, who took the James Madison job.

I have prepared a handy schematic that makes following the coaching changes a little more explainable.

Gonna be interesting to see if ISU goes the WKU route with a quick internal promotion (likely Matt Graves) or if they conduct a thorough national search. Surely they’ve got a plan together and hit the ground running today. I know they only have an interim AD, but it would be malpractice to not already be working on options for his replacement with all the rumors swirling for weeks.

Accurate Syc Fan statement:
"Schertz lied through his teeth since Arch Madness. Look, I am not naive enough to think he should stay here forever....but when you are asked what you need to stay and every demand is met, plus some then you still leave, all while having had a "done deal" you lose all credibility. He screwed over this small, yet loyal fan base and our basketball program. We don't have cash flowing out our ears, but we are honest, hard working, blue collar folks who bent over backwards to raise funds to show him how important this was to us, but billionaires have those pretty yellow brick roads don't they? What an absolutely piss poor way to handle all this, we got screwed folks...rammed hard and dry!!!

ATP, Is THIS Doyel related to the 70's SB Tribune Sportswriter, Joe Doyel? My 1st yr roomie @ ISU lived NEXTDOOR and had all kinds of neat ND FB/BB stories...

It's the equivalent of selling your soul. We did it to beat #1 UK, and we paid for it.

Seems like trees fans are a little peeved about this, and now there is a possibility that they won’t even look for a new coach until a new president is in place.

Seems like trees fans are a little peeved about this, and now there is a possibility that they won’t even look for a new coach until a new president is in place. They should be. For all the class I thought he had, Schertz handled this whole fiasco poorly. Telling everyone he wasn't making any decisions until after the season when it was quite apparent this has been in the bag for weeks is a crap move. I think it's a kick in the nuts to the entire conference. We battle this false narrative that the A-10 is superior to us, especially at bid time. Schertz himself was hosed by this belief this year. So instead of proving them wrong, he bolts and adds to the freaking narrative, just like Loyola did. There would be nowhere near this outrage if he had taken a P5 job and was somewhat upfront about it. I would love to see the A-10 agree to a MVC/A-10 challenge, but they don't have the sack to ever do it. It's easier just to tell everyone they are better. The Sycs may be rightfully melting down, but if you check out the SLU one, there is a bunch of arrogant d-bags taunting them.
