For those of you that say take a hard pass on Owen Dease you are dead wrong. Kid can shoot the rock, he's long and fairly athletic. We could do way worse! The bottom line is he can score the ball. I'll go with whatever coach & staff decide. Exactly. Teams that have killed us recently are long and athletic. Bradley, birds, trees, Loyola. And the list just goes on and on. Agreed.

He can shoot with good form and can score on a high school defense but he has a stick figure physique. By the time he has a D1 body he’ll probably enter the portal of mid-major death. But I’d take a chance on him.

At this point, I wouldn't have any problem with taking a chance on him either. He's local - he does have a jump shot and he has length. I think he's a bit of a project, but as everyone knows from watching the games you cannot judge a book by it's cover. There are a lot of players who look like they might not be that good in high school but really put it together at this level. Who knows. The star of the Ohio team didn't even play on his high school team. I think it's always good to try and sign any local talent we can cause you never know what kind of pipeline you can open up with the local coaches when the next superstar comes through. It's worth a shot.

Excuse me if I'm wrong but doesn't Kevin Durant still at 30-something years old have a stick figure? I remember his rookie year they said he couldn't even bench press 135 lbs. Look how that turned out! I hate to bring up Walter but he was the skinniest of the skinny coming out of high school and he turned out all right (from a pure basketball playing standpoint only)! Don't judge a book by its cover. He's going to be a good player.

Skinny is a liability the further up you go on the basketball totem pole.

Don't judge a book by its cover. He's going to be a good player. Since you mentioned Kevin Durant, I will repost my "Kevin Durant" comment from page 2 of this thread: "He’s obviously needs to bulk up a little bit but he kind of reminds me of Kevin Durant when he was at UT in the sense that he is skinny and lanky but his skill level is off the charts (from what I saw on the highlight clips). Let’s be clear that I am not saying he is anywhere near a Kevin Durant caliber player. But he does seem to have a very high skill set. Not sure how many scholarships we have left but I think we have an open offer extended to him. IMHO we need a point guard (to groom as Shamar’s replacement) and another big."
Obviously I have not seen him play in person and I don't know why he is not rated higher but what stuck out to me was his skill set. That is what separated Durant from other 6'9" guys. When I first saw him at a UT preseason game I was judging him as a traditional big man and thought he was just going to be pushed around and didn't know what all of the hype was about till I actually saw him play. Steph Curry is relatively short with a small build and he is a great player because of his elite skill set. I believe Owen is bigger than Curry. Obviously we are comparing him to two of the best of all time, which is probably not fair. But this is not a kid that should be overlooked from what I have seen. I would be curious what the knock on the kid is from those that have seen him play a lot in person.

I'm sorry man I'm a busy guy I don't have time to go all the way back on all the threads. My son plays high school basketball and I've seen him play in person three or four times. I really like him. And who said he has to be like Krutwig? The last time I checked they played different positions correct? That's comparing apples to oranges. Sorry but that's really silly.
Another tidbit on Dease. He used to be a top-notch BMX bike racer. Switch to basketball I think in like the third grade after growing a ton. I also know one of the Reitz assistant coaches and from what I can gather he's a good kid. I would love to have him and I think we would too after seeing him play for a while in an Aces uniform.

My point is that he's been good at whatever he does. Talented kid.
Dease - Guard
Krutwig - Center
Please try harder next time.

Looking at those videos, I don't come away with much appreciation for the skills a player needs to compete in college -- upper body strength and overall quickness. I think strength can be achieved. Quickness really can't be, though a player's skill level can be improved with work. I don't think these videos can impart much info. If the consensus about his character, family, dedication, loyalty, sportsmanship, academic prowess and overall campus popularity all pan out -- hell, do what they do at Kansas ... buy his mom a new Jaguar.

Considering his offer was almost 2 years ago with a different head coach, how do we know the new staff is still interested? I know Trey Hall still came despite the coaching change, but I am curious if Dease still wants to come here. Obviously, Evansville is a much better offer than IUPUI and Miami Ohio, so I’d say we’d have a good shot.

Now that Alex Matthews is transferring, they should definitely offer Dease. He can shoot and he has time to put on some muscle and weight. I think it would help the program immensely to get some local scholarship players.

Any chance we could pick up Dease and Landers as a package (with Landers in the portal now)? Would Landers even consider UE? He certainly would get playing time and Shamar’s last year would be next year as well. A long shot I know.

I usually only watch 5-10 IU games a year, and lander looked lost in most of the games. Missed defensive assignments. Couldn’t buy a bucket in the paint. If you ask me, he should come to a non-Power 5 school.
