He will be eligible mid December next year if he is enrolled now.

There must be some back channel activity going on that we don’t know about. I don’t see anything in public that would cause a recruit of this caliber to commit to UE without a head coach and a program in reverse without something in the background. We don’t get many recruits with this kind of pedigree and I’m glad to have him.
When you look at who’s already committed for next year and you add a top flight guard like Curtis we already have a very strong group coming in. I notice that none of the recruits we already have in the fold are decommitting. Johnathan is a different story as he can’t ask for his release from his letter until McCarty is no longer the coach. if I counted the available scholarships for 2020-21 we have six to give with one for Hall and one for Curtis if no one leaves the current team.
If we lose McCarty and have an exodus of eligible players and recruits leave then we are back where we were before McCarty. At the worse as I see it, we will be damaged but not broken.

It would make sense that this was in the works before Coach was put on leave. He was put on leave shortly after Christmas and Samari left Nebraska on Dec 7. But the timing of the commitment is the headscratcher. I feel like he had to be reassured Walter isn't going anywhere.

it sounds like everywhere this guy goes the coach gets fired or leaves...he must be cursed. Tom, I wouldn’t say Chris Mack going to Louisville or the Cincinnati coach going to UCLA were negatives. I’m not sure about Nebraska but I think the current coach is in his first year.

All this info about these recruits seems to indicate what several of you have posted on this site...something decisive must be happening, Also, I have been hearing (maybe just rumors, but they're out there) that this whole situation may be more pro McCarty remaining here than previously thought. Also, I find it puzzling - the timing - as to why now (following the Loyola game), the team got together and decided they'd work together to stop these humiliating defeats due to poor play. Do they know something, or are they just sick of rolling over and giving up? Any way...I am glad to see signs of life for this program moving forward. It's hard to cheer, "Go, ACES" when so many of the team are walking around with that beaten-already attitude. I hope to be shouting "Fight" when the team runs out on the floor again ready to prove that we're tough in spite of what we're going through!

None of this makes any sense. There has to be stuff going on behind the scenes

He is a former Mr Basketball from Ohio and originally committed to Cincinnati and then decommitted. He then committed to Xavier then decommitted there as well. 8 games into his freshman year he told the coach we was going to transfer. He is a talent for sure but not sure what his travels are all about. Only verbal commitments to X and Cincy. Decommitted with the coaching changes (Mack and Cronin). I'm not concerned. Check the recruiting section for a link to a news article.

The way things have gone this season, I won't be surprised if we find out he's going to play on the volleyball team. 😂 there just might be a gender identity issue unless we're starting a men's volleyball team.

Thus the reason for the Title IX investigation. Walter recruited this guy for the women's volleyball team. Very complicated issue.

There are at least three issues here. (Well, actually a lot more than that.) One is Samari coming to UE. I would guess the fact that we had an open scholarship for spring semester played into his coming here. I'm sure it was already a done deal but then Walter was suspended before classes started and before an announcement was made.
A separate issue is the anouncement by UE. If this is the first day of class, I believe that UE had to wait until he was an enrolled student to make the announcement, since there was no LOI. And Samari waited until today as well. It seems notable that given the current turmoil, he did not back out. Once someone is signed and on campus, the coach can then make comments (somebody correct me if I'm wrong), so it will be interesting to see if Coach Seltzer makes a statement about Samari or if there is a general press release from the Athletic Department. Presumably he can start practicing with the team immediately.
Then there is the whole issue of the surplus number of players and recruits for next season. We probably won't learn anything about that for awhile.
Of course, we are all starved for information on the coaching situation as well as these other questions.

Dude was Mr Basketball in Ohio, offers from Xavier and Cincinnati. He knows something we don’t. Plus that tells us we are losing some players. My official prediction.............
He was recruited by Cincinnati by Antwan Jackson. He is well respected asst coach at Cincy. He will be our next head coach?? He recruited Curtis. Only thing that makes sense to me. And just my opinion, not a rumor or fact..... Here is an article about the Antwan I found... xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Antwon Jackson’s efforts in Cincinnati since his arrival in June 2012 have helped the Bearcats win 75 percent of their games, posting a 183-59 record with seven appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
A talented recruiter and gifted coach, Jackson was invited to the NCAA’s prestigious Achieving Coaching Excellence (ACE) program during the summer 2016, where he was put through an intensive development program for preparation of career advancement.
Jackson built a reputation for finding high-level prospects during stints at both UMass and William and Mary over the previous seven seasons. During his last four seasons in Amherst, Jackson helped recruit and coach players who contributed to the Minutemen’s rise in the Atlantic-10 Conference standings. UMass improved upon its 12-18 overall mark and 10th-place league finish in 2008-09, building toward a 25-12 mark and fifth-place league finish during the 2011-12 campaign. UMass advanced to the semifinal round of the 2012 Postseason NIT. The Minutemen’s 25 wins on the season tied with the 2008 squad for most wins by the program since its Final Four run at the 1996 NCAA Tournament.
Prior to his stay at UMass, Jackson helped retool William and Mary under Tribe head coach Tony Shaver. During Jackson’s three seasons in Williamsburg, Virginia, William and Mary improved its overall record from 8-20 and 10th place in the Colonial Athletic Association in 2006 to a 17-16 mark and fifth-place finish in 2008. The Tribe marched through the 2008 CAA tournament but fell one game shy of an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament. William and Mary recorded a 10-8 league record in 2008, marking only the second double-digit win total in its 23-year history in the CAA.
Before climbing into the collegiate coaching ranks Jackson gained experience as an assistant coach with two high schools and numerous AAU squads in Virginia and Maryland. He served as an assistant coach at Paul VI High School in Fairfax, Virginia, during the 2004-05 season, helping lead the team to an 18-8 record and an appearance in the Virginia Independent Schools championship game. Paul VI High School is a member of the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference, considered one of the top high school basketball leagues in the country. From 2001-04, Jackson was an assistant coach at Bishop McNamara in Forestville, Maryland.
On the AAU circuit Jackson performed as an assistant coach for the successful DC Assault and Maryland Select squads for two summers (2004-05). Typically one of the top AAU teams in the nation, DC Assault has produced many NCAA Division I and NBA players and coaches. Jackson was an assistant coach with DC Blue Devils AAU in 2003.
Jackson also has worked at some of the top summer basketball camps in the country, including the adidas Superstar Camp and several years at the Five Star Basketball Camp.
