I honestly would have to question the intelligence of any GM who would take someone like him right now. He's apparently got major back problems (a big, big red flag for a basketball player). Back injuries destroyed a lot of great players careers - David Robinson, Steve Nash, Larry Bird, etc. It's not an easy thing to recover from.
Stranger things have happened, but it would be a shocker that is for sure. It's not like he just came off of a year where he tore it up every night. He stunk the place up in the Bahamas and against JSU. To me he's got a long way to go to even begin talking about the NBA. My 2 cents.

The talks about Deandre going to the NBA seem silly to me. He is a talent for sure....but the NBA is one hell of big reach to be thinking about concerning his immeadiate future. If he can stay healthy he can be as good as anyone in the MVC. I will leave it at that.

I've seen a lot of players in my lifetime and DeAndre is DEFINITELY NOT one of the better players I have seen. And those players didn't make it to the NBA.

As Romeo Langford warms the bench in a Celtics uniform. Just saying. He's a rookie that was hurt all summer. He will get plenty of minutes next season

To step away from college basketball now by DeAndre would be a huge mistake. He’s not NBA ready and may never be. It’s a different game there and for paint players size (muscle) matters. In my opinion he would spend most of his time there on his back looking up and no one would care. I don’t see him getting drafted and a tryout camp would be his only hope.
He might make the G league but they don’t pay much there and everyone plays for themselves in hopes of moving up. Ask Egidijus about that one. That leaves European teams or to a lesser degree other foreign countries. He has not built a resume that will sell well there. What did he play? Something like 13 games with a team at a school no one has heard of and lost all their conference games. The good foreign teams have lots of US choices without picking an injured player. That leaves the teams that don’t always pay their players.
DeAndre can stay at UE or transfer but he should definitely stay in school. In two years he can test the waters to see what the pros have to offer.

Wasn't the point of bringing Lickliter on mid-season to A) Win More Games and B) Keep Program Continuity and Players
So far, the team failed to win a single conference game and just lost its best player to the transfer portal.
I'm not blaming Lickliter either, as much as I am AD Mark Spencer (McCarty too, but he's long gone). Just made a panic hire in-season to save his job, instead of doing a full-blown national head coaching search in the offseason.
Could've had Yaklich or someone like that at least interview for competition to TL. Now the Aces are royally boned.

Lickliter will be a good coach. If he’s gone it means we have a spot to fill. I don’t think he will find his greener grass

Unless NCAA passes a new transfer protocol he will have to sit next then have 1 year of eligibility

He entered his name into the NBA draft. He might be going the G-league route.

I wish him well. Couple comments: 1. If he’s looking to transfer, then it’s probably a bad decision if the immediate eligibility rule isn’t in place yet. He’s old. 2. He was clearly our most talented player, but I think he thought he was better than what he was. Needs to get stronger to get in to the League. His shot release is slow as well. If you watch the Kentucky game, he couldn’t shoot a jump shot. . 3. Hopefully, his back injury isn’t prolonged. He didn’t look great when he came back for a couple conference games.

I agree with tbehrend’s comments. I do wish williams well. To think he is nba ready is laughable. He played well at times when he was on the court barring injury and his mouth. One thing I hope TL instills in these kids is you leave the talk with the officials to the coaches. I can’t stand it when players run their mouths to officials. It does impact games. I don’t think Williams is a good fit with what I think our coach is wanting to do. We will see hopefully we will find another player I think coach has recruited pretty well so far
