I must be lost. I thought this was a thread about A.J. Casey.

Hard to compete with schools handing out those NIL bags. Although who knows if he will get the minutes to go with the cash at StLou. At some point some guys are going to want minutes over cash especially with 2-3 years of eligibility left. Can’t imagine he got a crazy amount at StLou compared to what he would get after a good year at a mid major. They already spent a large amount of NIL. Would love to know what some of these guys are getting.

It’s interesting that Casey commits to SLU right after Turnbull chooses UE over SLU. It looks like a matter of PT to me. Bunched with Turnbull, Hughes, and probably Battle. And I’m not burying Hughes on the bench for anybody that’s within our reach. Too much potential.

Heard from a reputable source that SLU’s entire NIL budget is in the high hundreds of thousands of dollars……still a lot of money but validates my point that Shitz and Goggles isn’t getting 500-700k.

Got to believe that Casey was the second choice for SLU and us. Once Connor committed to us then SLU goes to their next option. Both good players but Connor was the first choice for a reason (can shoot the 3, a shot blocker extraordinaire, just more versatile, taller, etc).
Hopefully they both have success and are happy.

Trilly Donovan said AJ was committing to a SLU a day or two before the coaches started tweeting things implying Turnbull was coming here. I don’t think they were deciding between the two. In my opinion, they were probably unable to guarantee Connor a starting role because they see him in a similar role to Avila and they were recruiting AJ Casey to replace Jayson Kent. Connor is still a great get for us, but I don’t think AJ was the backup plan either.

Given the choice between AJ and Connor, I like Connor best. I think our coaches did too.

As I said before AJ was waiting for a better offer and in his mind he got one.

That could’ve had something to do with it as well. Those are two big middle schoolers - maybe an AAU picture?
