Nick Smith had a great first inning. Ty Rumsey hit a home run. But walks, BABIP and base runners do not mix well. UE pitching has to be better than this against good Valley teams. stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=502722

Our experienced starting pitching has to improve for us to achieve what we want to this year. Consistent pitching from the bullpen wouldn’t hurt either.

Peach and Schroeder on the telecast said Nick Smith had surgery last summer and was early on a strict pitch count. They did not elaborate. Nick's problem seemed to be a lack of focus. He got 2 strikes on everybody and couldn't put them away. Some sloppy luck hits and a well placed double all conspire to produce some offense that could have been avoided with slightly better command. Fieger didn't do badly, but he was far from sharp. Not sure what to make of this. UE is capable of winning a lot of games if they hit. One chance with bases loaded and zero outs, they got 2 runs out of it. Had the Murray reliever on the ropes. Pffffffffffft.

Hopefully Nick improves throughout the season, but overall our pitching has been a little disappointing. Maybe we simply don't have any better options at this point, but I do think after this weekend Wes really needs to evaluate where we are and make some changes.

Wes, and maybe rightfully so, has no confidence in the bullpen. This is a game the Aces really need to win.

4-4 in the middle of 7th. Aces need the bats to come through again. Up 4-0 to start the 7th, and Deverman gave up 4 consecutive hits and a walk to start the inning. Very strong outing from him - not sure why you don't take him out earlier in the inning.

Shallenberger's RBI double in the bottom of the 8th gives the good guys a 5-4 lead.

Wes gave Deverman the third time through the order and it burned him. The ball that got past Widder could have been a DP ball -- but they play all 9 innings for a reason.

Could blame this game on anything but the 3 balls hit over Shallenberger's head to LF with the wind blowing out at 15 mph. Aces pitching has unraveled this year and the defense is awful. Not a good mix for a team full of veterans.

Not a good mix for a team full of veterans. Yep - very disappointing season so far. There is time to turn it around, but again, there needs to be some real assessments and decisions made and have a sense of urgency. I think the pre-season schedule has also done more harm than benefit. Teams need to get some wins and get used to winning.

Not our best weekend but 24 more conference games to go. Could have won this one in the 9th. The ump coughed up the call on that balk. I don't agree that the non-con schedule should change. They have to play on the road and if you are going on the road, go big. Baseball is a process.

Dang, we were one pitch (yesterday) and one sacrifice hit (today) from taking 2 games in this series. That is baseball!

Disappointing for sure but Murray State is 17-6 overall, and they are 3-0 in conference play (thanks to us). When all is said and done, this might not look as bad but could be an issue in tiebreakers, etc.
