Very, very disappointing season thus far. I like us playing teams better than we have in our league in the pre conference as it makes us better and more prepared for conference play like it does in any sport. We have seen over the years how poorly we look in conference when playing weak competition whether it be in baseball, basketball or any sport prior to conference games. Marty and crew could have gotten in the NIT in 2016 had he scheduled better teams prior to the conference season that year.
Looks to me like most of our issues are pitching. We have been giving up a lot of runs this year with an average of nearly 7 runs a game. Not going to be very successful in baseball when pitching is 75% of the game when opponents score this many runs per game.
Go Aces !

I don't think it is always a choice of competition early on for Northern teams. They have to start playing in Feb., and that means going to the South. There are a LOT of good Southern teams regardless of who you schedule. There are schools there that you don't even think of that can win 3 out of 4. So you might as well schedule SEC teams. The players love that kind of competition, to see if they measure up against a roster full of pitchers who most likely will all be drafted. Miss. State sank $68 MILLION into their ballpark in 2019. That's the competition that helps you recruit. Wins in non-con are nice but the ones that count started last weekend. UE maybe depended on its pitching more than the pitching has delivered. They also missed Chase Hug's 1.100 OPS and great 1B defense. It also speaks to Wes Carroll's rep that he can get a 3-game set against Miss. State. A whole bunch of Northern teams would love to get that series. Carroll gets these games every year.
