Well that is not good. You have to wonder how many more might hit the portal. Both of these players and especially Thomas were supposed to be part of the building blocks for a successful foundation for next year. I guess this is the norm in the portal era.

We'll miss Naveah the most. Can't blame her. Who wants to play in an elementary school gym. The staff is swimming against a rip current.

Seeing as how the women's team won 4 games this year, it strikes me as odd that we'd worry if they transfer.

Striverson won’t go to a better school. She wasn’t good enough. Thomas could improve her situation but I’m not sure. The one think that does worry me is what’s going on besides the obvious lack of success. Is there trouble in River City?

Naveah probably sees herself as a bigger fish, so that's an acceptable answer. But for women in the mid-range overall, if they are transferring, it is probably more about the environment than the outcomes.

There were a couple of women up this way who transferred down from D-1 to local NAIA or D-3. I don't think the women generally want to move up, but they want to be in an environment where they can be happier. There's no 'there' there for 99.888888 pct. of women in college ball after they are done playing. They are usually there for the education.

ATP - we are probably in agreement on the formula for successful women's basketball at UE -- mainly recruit within a 150 mile radius, then get a coach that teaches solid fundamentals and has ties to UE or Evansville (higher probability of sticking around for many years.)
I think the goal for the women at a school like UE is to be a .500 team every year and occasionally pop for some 20+ win seasons.

I guess we are essentially saying that women's BB isn't going to move the needle, and to be blunt -- no, it won't. This ain't South Carolina or Iowa or LSU or Stanford or UConn. That isn't to say they shouldn't try to win. The talent it takes to go from 4 wins to even 14 wins -- cheesh ... the players you need to take you there are already getting NIL money! There are not 400 top women's players in the country who are going to look at a mid-major program. UConn will get 5 of them and stash them all on the bench for 4 years. Maybe some will transfer but most of them will be just happy to be on the same team with a national contender. They are in it for the education.

The hole is getting deeper. Before long the women’s team will start chalking up losses before they play the game. When are 40 point losses going to become commonplace?

This site here tracks the transfer portal for the women. Sydney Bradley(Fr) and Lexie Sinclair (listed as a Jr. but went thru Senior Day activities) are also in the portal along with Kynidi and Navaeh. Coach is going to have to pull a rabbit out of her hat for next year. www.thenexthoops.com/features/2023-24-transfer-portal-tracker-ncaa-womens-basketball/Evansville-- Sydney Bradley, 5’10, G, Fr. (1.4 ppg) Lexie Sinclair, 5’8, G, Jr. (5.2 ppg) Kynidi Mason Striverson, 5’8, G, Soph. (11.5 ppg, 3.8 apg) Nevaeh Thomas, 5’11, F, Fr. (15.7 ppg, 7.1 rpg)

So, as of now, Kynidi is leaving but Alana, who Kynidi got to transfer here, is staying...
Looking at the link 65pointgame provided, I am shocked at the number of players in the portal. Even in our league, Bradley and Missouri State have 6 apiece. How many are actually going to improve their situation? This is starting to remind me of the traveling nurse program. Stay in a place for a year, and on to the next stop. What a great way to travel and see the country.
I do agree with stennisrm72, at some point, we are going to have to address the Meeks situation. What kind of message are we sending recruits? For our men, we rent a state of the art arena downtown, and for you, well, this gym is almost as nice as the one down the street at Harper Elementary.

So, as of now, Kynidi is leaving but Alana, who Kynidi got to transfer here, is staying... I do not know any first hand details, but there must be lingering issues with the concussion, long term effects that might keep Alana from returning to basketball anytime soon. This is only an assumption on my part, but if correct, I hope that she has a full recovery.
We all would like more info on injuries, but HIPAA may dictate why injury status is not released.
