I need a little history lesson.Did Blaise enter the Portal after TL was let go,or did Rags not retain him when he was hired. He played last year, then left the team I thought and entered the portal.

perhaps the reason for "leaving" the team was he wasn't academic eligibe for the 2nd semester??

perhaps the reason for "leaving" the team was he wasn't academic eligibe for the 2nd semester?? I don’t think that was the case. Trey Hall had academic issues, but Blaise was a fine student from everything I’d heard. I don’t think he would’ve hung around the extra year and completed his degree if that were the case too. From what I recall, his minutes were going downhill and he barely played in the SIU game we got smoked in at home, and then it was announced he would be leaving the program right after that game. It wasn’t even time for fall semester finals yet, so I think something happened internally with him not being happy about minutes/role on the team and he decided to get a head start on leaving. That’s just speculation though, but the timing was really weird on it.

I can’t imagine there would be any interest on either side for him to play for the Aces again. I do hope he lands somewhere. Seems like a nice kid and he can flat out shoot.

I couldn’t remember the story about Blaise playing for Rags, but if he was a part of Rags Aces and quit the team at Christmas break which I do remember then he’s toast. There are too many fish to be caught to invite him back. I’m sure that’s why the portal has resurfaced for Blaise. There is absolutely no interest in him rejoining the team.

He left the team shortly after Thanksgiving (saw him play at SMU) and then he played in the Thanksgiving tournament last year hitting the winning shot at Robert Morris. He was averaging 8.6 ppg and coming off the bench (when arguably he could have or should have been starting) - not sure if that factored into his decision to leave but you would think that it might have. I would speculate that he would not return but he can flat out shot/score for sure. Here is the CP article on December 2nd, 2022: www.courierpress.com/story/sports/college/evansville/2022/12/02/blaise-beauchamp-leaving-evansville-mens-basketball-program/69697113007/

Blaise was the first player to not align with Rags “2nd Team needs a scorer” approach (This post isn’t to debate that thought process)
I remember at the time thinking “why is he coming off the bench? We need his scoring and he plays hard”
He’s not physical enough to win games in Feb in the MVC, but he played hard and could shoot. His shot selection needed work but you could almost forgive it given the other options at the time. Clearly Rags disagreed and they parted ways (mostly amicable the best I can tell)
Also, that was right when coaches were realizing that the portal would make players Free Agents every year and the players thought they would be able to move up and around very freely. He also has a cousin that is a pro (can’t remember who) who might have given him bad advice. Remember if you are hooping w Pro’s in the summer and then go to college and come off the bench that probably is hard on your ego and tough to deal w at home. Even if you can handle it yourself, if your family can’t, it can be too much.
TLDR: Seems like a good kid who was put in a bad position by others and is trying to make the best of it

Hate that he wasn’t able to find a place after last season, but he no doubt had some offers he passed up. Not sure if bad advice led to him leaving early or not, but he was definitely getting some bad advice on what kind of role/what level he should be playing at when he entered the portal and I think that definitely had to play into him not finding a spot. Hopefully he learned from that and is willing to take a lesser role or move down a level if he gets interest this time around.
