I can't believe they actually canceled the tournament. I am totally shocked. I still think it's a great overreaction. Absolutely an overreaction. Why hasn’t the 20,000 that have died from the Other non Wuhan flu’s not caused a panic? This is a media driven panic. No one wants any body to die from any flu but some realistic perspective is sadly being ignored.

So what realistic perspective is being ignored? Billion dollar industries are being shut down I think for good reason. When the epidemic became known in China, a few weeks later it is in St Louis where I now live. Perhaps America should wait a while longer to see just how prevalent this virus can become?

The perspective that this flu was identified in China in November . The people in China that reported on it in China are now missing and nowhere to be found . Either jailed or a mass of unidentifiable remains. Who knows how long people were really coming out of China with this virus and spreading it. Many people may have already had it and recovered . The reports say 50,000 plus have already recovered from it. If the dictatorship government in China had not tried to hide this it may have been able to be contained. Over 20000 people in the US have died form the other common flu since October already. There has been no panic there. Virus’s can kill people. Medications can kill people. Driving can kill people. Cancer kills people. Abortion kills people. Just saying we will be ok. Minimizing sickness and death should be important but this panic is just not rational . That last part is my opinion . The rest pretty factual .

The regular flu kills a predictable number of people every year and there is a vaccine to prevent or mitigate the disease. COVID-19 is growing exponentially, more deadly to certain demographics, and there is no vaccine in sight. The panic is justified and I am grateful to the responsible media outlets that are getting the information to the public. Shame on the ones who are flimflamming their mostly elderly customers. I am thoroughly impressed (and pleasantly shocked) by the leagues and team owners who have set profits aside during this serious health crisis.

Yes it is dangerous like brain says. but it is not anymore than other virus's out there that kill many more people. Now everyone is acting like we are Venezuela and trying to grab Toilet Paper, paper towels, other items like it may never come around again. People need to come to there senses.

More Americans have died in an automobile accident, since last night's evening news, than have perished from Wuhan Flu in three months. Throw your keys down the drain. Flush 'em away. BAN ALL CARS! They're a threat to Mankind's survival. Ain't happening.
Just like if you're over 70, with respiratory issues, diabetic, and living in a nursing facility....I don't think you're headed out to a college basketball tournament, to see an NBA game, NHL match, or up to Augusta next month.

Their was 13 deaths in a nursing home in Washington State due to the Coronavirus. Just wanted you to know.

Which is EXACTLY my point. 30% (or) 13 of all 41 US deaths, were in a nursing facility, involving the elderly with pre-existing health issues. I'll keep good thoughts, for their families.
However and (to be completely honest) I'm thinking not one of them, had tickets for first round games in Spokane or Opening Day for The Mariners.

Dude, not trying to be offensive, but as a health care professional I can't tell you just how stupid of a remark you just made. Should I ever come across you in public, I hope I have a protective mask near by. I don't care what kind of healthcare professional you are. This is being blown way out of proportion. The people who are most at risk are the same people who are at risk for the flu, pneumonia, etc. I think it'd be just fine to play the games. Go ahead, Doctor or whatever you are, and say something about me negatively. I really don't care what you think, your opinion is the same as anybody else's.

Did any of their future visitors or nursing facility staff have tickets to a game? I thought I'd ask a numbers guy. I know impeccable research takes time so I'll wait.

Oh, so if more people die of one cause that means that other causes should be ignored. Weird. Let's play percentages. If one in a hundred senior citizens died after having COVID-19 does that mean that more than one in a hundred senior citizens died in a car crash yesterday? You may be an expert on blended scotch, aka blended leftovers, but I don't think understanding pandemics is your forte. Thankfully, the brains of the NCAA, NBA, NHL, etc are willing to annoy simple-minded sports junkies and do the right thing. Frankly, I'm astonished by those who have more regard for games with balls and pucks than they do with the elderly.

I might further add that many viruses mutate into other types of viruses...often times more severe and attacking other age populations. Thus, making every attempt to eliminate or control this current strand becomes all the more vital.

Our healthcare system, which Letsgoaces would be eminently more qualified than I to speak of, is already overburdened. If this virus, which can and has spread rapidly, were to infect Americans at anywhere near the rate it has in Italy in the last two weeks, there is not even a fraction of hospital beds, doctors, nurses and vaccines needed that would be available. We've read about it for a few months being in a faraway place. We hoped it would not affect us. But it's here now, it's not just on our doorstep, and as much as we enjoy sports, and the NCAA tournament is my favorite sporting event, the people in power have a responsibility to do whatever it takes to TRY to give our health and our healthcare system a fighting chance before we're completely overwhelmed. As for the tournament, I was on the side of postpone and visit cancellation at a later date, but that didn't happen. It's tough for players, and my heart goes to seniors whose careers end this way. It's sad for teams who would have played in the tournament for the first time in a long time, and for teams like Dayton, who have had a great season and had a chance to make history. But the health of all has to be the first priority. This threat is real. We can't make it even more difficult.
