My concern for the future is how do we convince a good player/s to come be an ACE? How do we get a Balentine, or a Colt Ryan, or a Parrish Casabier sp? to want to come here? Or any like the young men who played on the team that beat the Oregon Ducks in the Big Dance? I know it was a long time ago, but the Aces have not played the Oregon Ducks. In 1989, the Aces did knock off the Oregon STATE Beavers in OT, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

I can still see Crafton's ( I think that was his name, I may be remembering that wrong also) long hair flying as he hit that 3 from half court! What fun times that our team treated us to!

Hey it could be worse,UE wasn't expected to do very well this year and I think we at least brought in some excitement back into the program earlier in the year. Meanwhile my diehard Hoosier fans in Beantown are paying ANOTHER coach a ton of money to under perform again.

Say what you want, but I know we were just a stop here and there from a few more wins, losing 3 games by 3 points in the MVC and a few others we were in until the final few minutes. Also, improvement against Drake and Murray state from early season to late season. Next year will be the true judgement year in my opinion, if we can improve by 5 more MVC wins and be at 11 wins I will take it, but if we once again are at 5 to 6 wins it will be very disappointing.

I daresay we always return to optimism after our introduction to reality. So far, none of us has even bothered looking at the always-fascinating "Transfer Portal."

I agree. My expectation is that we finish .500 in conference next year at a minimum. If we have another season like this, it might be time to worry a little bit, but based on where we started, we’re making good progress and it’s time to take the next step and legitimately be in the race for a bye in STL late in February. I’m hopeful that we can finish top 4 in the conference, but if we at least have a season like SIU where we’re in the hunt for a bye late in the year and finish 1 game out of the bye, I’ll still be happy. He’s got to keep making progress and get us over the hump and legitimately compete for a title by year 4 though. We need to make it to Saturday in STL by year 4 imo. Like I’ve said previously, I think we are 1-2 dynamic guards away from making this happen. A good center like others have suggested wouldn’t hurt either.

Expectations -- UE can beat Redbird State. They ... just ... can. If there is a time to rescue this season, those guys will step up and grab it.
After that, probably Drake ... I don't know what the odds are, if you take a 40-point loss and mix it with a buzzer-beater 3-point loss ... somewhere in the middle.
It's outside the scope of common sense to think they can win 3 games, but if IF they could beat Drake, everybody else is sometimes on the same level, up to the time the Sycs play.
I am not predicting Hulman College to win this.

As AceLoverLarry suggested we need 1-2 dynamic guards plus as mentioned a BIG to combat the likes of Donovan Clay, Avila and others. Sounds pretty easy, but in reality it can be a big task. Navigating the transfer portal is tough for a school like UE and even tougher to get premium players to commit -- not much of the way in NIL money, small school, very little continuity and success over the past 5 years are tough obstacles. If Rags, Craig, Roosevelt, DJ and the others pull in a decent class I will be impressed.

A few reasons why a recruit should consider us is the family atmosphere that Rags is building; the relationships that he builds with people and that he genuinely cares about people and his players; the significant improvement in W's and the on-court product in essentially his first full-year/recruiting cycle; tradition; being a part of turning a program around. Also, if they are looking for a smaller school versus getting swallowed up at a big school. Also seeing the individual improvement in players that range from Yacine to Gage. They have a chance to be a part of something big and do it in a small-town, small-school family environment where people care.

You do need to get lucky but the Aces brought in 5 of them last year -- and with Strawbridge's improvement, this was a team poised to do more than it did. I think the problems can be fixed. There may be those who don't think the recruits were impact players. Sorry, but they were. Even Toumi was better.

Chuck Norris doesn't have to jump up to dunk, The basket bows down!

If Chuck (Norris) was on the team all our other players would have to be under 5'8" -- rumor has it an actor had to be shorter than Chuck to be a guest star on Walker Texas Ranger. But yeah, he probably could take it to Robbie Avila.
I pride myself on being a mostly irrelevant poster!

There is an interesting scenario for the league that would impact it significantly for next year.
Ford - Fired at Mo St Jake - Wash or Stanford offer DeVries- Creighton if Mac leaves Wardle - St Louis when Ford is fired Schertz - DePaul, South Carolina etc
My best guess is 4 max leave, but I don’t think we’ve seen this much possible coaches movement in awhile (Of course there are 12 teams now, so that does shake the tree a bit)

I’d say there’s a 99% chance Schertz is gone. The others are pretty big ifs imo. It would definitely leave the league wide open if Bradley, Drake, UNI opened.
