Good luck to you guys in the tournament. ISU has one hell of a team. We don’t have DePaul on the schedule next year, so I’m not worried about seeing Schertz, Avila, and Swope again. JS is likely on the short list at FAU if Dusty leaves, and South Carolina if Paris leaves too NAH! FAU would be a lateral move at best with the way ISU is behind him. Depaul is a dumpsterfire no coach in their right mind wants any part of. South Carolina is a football first school I don't see that either. Will he get calls, yes! Will he interview likely. He stuck around LMU with a lot of offers thrown his way, who knows.

If JS goes anywhere, it'll be via Hwy 46 to rebuild the lost IU/RMK dynasty after Woodson is "mothballed!" Of course, the ISU diehards choke at the idea, but where is TH gonna uncover the $$$...the closed coal mines? Churchill Downs Casino?
No way in hell that JS would live/coach in Chicago!

Lots of uncertainties in university leadership certainly doesnt help. His coaching stock will maybe never be this high again. I’d be absolutely shocked if he stays in Terra Haute after March, but if you guys can come up with the financial commitment it’s going to take to keep him despite all the leadership issues, props to you guys. You’ll certainly be cemented as a top MVC team for the foreseeable future if you can overcome all of that and retain him. I’d still be surprised if Swope/Avila don’t get some serious NIL offers and consider leaving, but if Schertz is still there, he’ll find some guys to backfill and keep ISU competing for a top 4 finish regularly. I’d be interested to see what the financials it takes if you do keep all 3 together. I would think it’s going to take at least 1.5 million between coaching salaries and NIL to keep that team together next year, and that doesn’t even factor in trying to keep Conwell, Larry, and Kent.

I didn’t like giving up all the good looks to Avila, but I’m not sure our normal defensive philosophy would’ve done us much better. We chose to make them try and force the ball inside through our zone instead of giving up open looks from 3 like we normally do. Maybe it would’ve been better to stick with our normal defense, but I think it definitely could’ve gotten really ugly really quick if they got hot from 3. It was disappointing to lose as bad as we did after competing for 3/4 of the game, but Indiana State is a hell of a team, so I won’t hang my head too low after the loss. I’m just glad that we fought back after getting down 18 early and made it a game again. Agree with this take. We went down 18 by starting in man-to-man and getting torched. We went to a zone and pulled back to within 1. It's also the second time this season we've busted out an exotic look against a tough opponent. Against Cincinnati, we played a 1-3-1 zone for large portions of the game and have not really seen it since. And last night, we were in a 3-2 zone (as opposed to the usual 2-3) that we had not used all season. There were certainly way too many wide open rolls to the basket for Avila, but it did slow them down for a few minutes in the 1st half until they adjusted. I don't understand roles and responsibilities in a 3-2 zone enough to diagnose what went wrong, but it does make me wonder if the players were in the same position due to lack of reps.

And just think Gentlemen you didn't even see ISU at full strength! Swope @ about 60% Kent at 80%.. And the worst part unless NIL strikes you get to see em all again next year! Goodluck to you guys in the Tournament, hope you guys find something and get an upset or two. Good luck to you guys in the tournament. ISU has one hell of a team. We don’t have DePaul on the schedule next year, so I’m not worried about seeing Schertz, Avila, and Swope again. I hope all the kids a ISU come back. I don’t think they win the MVC tournament this year. But I think a rivalry could come with them.

I hope Schertz stays at ISU for one more year. It will be an interesting case study if he does -- i.e. will his current players stay with him despite some NIL offers they receive? What I saw last night from ISU is guys that were enjoying the game and so happy for their big guy having a tremendous night. ISU appears to have great team chemistry. Will that be enough to keep the main components in Terre Haute?
Or does NIL money buy happiness? We might know the answer in 6 weeks.

Last night, they played several zones during the game. They ran a matchup 2-3, a 3-2, and they did run a 1-3-1 (which Avila ran right through for an easy layup over Antonio. Avila just owned them last night, and the Aces had no answers.

I must commend ISU for the great offense they run. Everyone screens and cuts exactly at the right time. Four and five quick consecutive swing passes with no dribbling resulted in open looks. They are far from the most athletic team we’ve seen this year. Their big guy center is not quick and cannot jump and scored 35 points due to high basketball IQ and timing of cuts. They ran pick and rolls to him way too many times with no one picking up the big guy. Ragland needs to rethink this defense. We are leaving the weak side, baseline shooter, open by giving him too much space because we are pulling the man supposed to be guarding him to help with dribble penetration. Every team that comes in here shoots the heck out of the three-pointers because of this. We also got hammered on the offensive boards.

How many of ISUs top 7 seven players did JS bring in. Everybody except Julian Larry the point guard. He is a holdover from the Lansing Era.
