What controlled offense? Strawbridge and Toumi going 1:1 all game long? I did not see much flow in this game or in many others this season.
How many sets were run to isolate Hughes? How many pick and rolls were run? Pick and pops? How many high post entry passes between bigs happened? How many back door cuts and passes were executed to burn ISU for their aggressive defensive pressure?

Our defense really worries me. Letting Avila roam freely and losing him on defensive rotations. Seems like we give up about 10 pts a game to uncontested shots at the rim, while we have to work for everything at the offensive end.
I stayed for the Senior speeches and then walked over to the ISU section and chatted with a few of their players. One of them had a team T-shirt on that read, "Impose our will" -- that about sums up the night for them.

However, it was far more than 10 points for Avila on uncontested shots at the rim. He was just roaming free in the middle of the lane on the way to the rim when the ball was passed to him on multiple occasions - no one even remotely had a body on him to keep him from getting deep in the lane. Antonio was the closest a lot of times and of course he had no shot at stopping him. Presumably we were concerned with covering the three-point shooters.

They had 25 assists on the night...damn, that is a well coached team. Stick around ISU for another year then IU might come calling.

We usually allow a team to bury us with open threes or, in this case tonight, with open threes and also allowing Avila to score at will. The only hope for a stop is Strawbridge's steals. We're left with trying to keep pace with our scoring...again with little attention to running plays or picks and rolls or smart cuts to the basket and a lack of sharp passing to find an open scorer...everything just deteriorates into 1 on 1 attempts to score, usually with no rebounding if shot is missed. Not any improvement as the year went on - I feel we just lost confidence in all the losses and didn't utilize the talent we do have. Disappointing season.

I necessarily didn’t have a problem with the offensive strategy. We were much bigger than them. So, back them down and make them play defense. The creates foul trouble and it slows down their offensive attack. Like others have said, it’s the defense that hurt us. Kenny getting that 4 and being in foul trouble hurt. He was disrupting that guard play to make those entry passes hard. When he got his foul we were down 10 and still within striking distance. Once he sat, those pocket passes got easier and the foul and ones started to add up.

I didn’t like giving up all the good looks to Avila, but I’m not sure our normal defensive philosophy would’ve done us much better. We chose to make them try and force the ball inside through our zone instead of giving up open looks from 3 like we normally do. Maybe it would’ve been better to stick with our normal defense, but I think it definitely could’ve gotten really ugly really quick if they got hot from 3.
It was disappointing to lose as bad as we did after competing for 3/4 of the game, but Indiana State is a hell of a team, so I won’t hang my head too low after the loss. I’m just glad that we fought back after getting down 18 early and made it a game again.
The losing streak to end the season has been disappointing, but I think most of us here would’ve been ecstatic if you told us in November that we would win 15 games. Hopefully we can find a way to win one more to finish .500, but I’m still very happy with the progress the program is making, even if the progress isn’t linear. We’ve got a long way to go to compete for MVC titles, but we’re light years ahead of where Todd Lickliter had us. Im still very optimistic that we are going to add the pieces to compete for a bye in St Louis next year, and hopefully we will be in that position or better every year for the rest of the Ragland tenure.

Not sure if anyone stayed to listen to seniors speak? We did enjoyed it. I am looking forward to the future. I like Ragland and always have. I think this program will continue to improve it won’t happen overnight. They improved a lot from last year. We should have several scholarships available and I am excited to see who the coaching staff brings in. Go Aces

And just think Gentlemen you didn't even see ISU at full strength! Swope @ about 60% Kent at 80%.. And the worst part unless NIL strikes you get to see em all again next year! Goodluck to you guys in the Tournament, hope you guys find something and get an upset or two.

We don’t have DePaul on the schedule next year, so I’m not worried about seeing Schertz, Avila, and Swope again.

JS is likely on the short list at FAU if Dusty leaves, and South Carolina if Paris leaves too

Bailey played 6min 2pts 1 Rebs 1 TO and didn’t play at all in the 2nd half in a blowout loss. Coach must think he’s leaving so he’s gonna limit his playing time. This what happens in college basketball. Wouldn’t be surprised if he don’t play him no more the rest of the season.

The whole offense the second half was Kenny, Toumi, BenH, and Cuff working one on one near the hoop. Chuck's game does mesh with that plan.

We have come a long way, but have a long way to go yet. Sat in middle of ISU fans last night. They are all praying that the coach stays. They felt if he leave the major players will follow him. Thought it was nice for Swope to take pictures with all the Castle kids after the game. There is still a lot for this team to learn, How to play defense for 40 minutes, how to do a lot on offense, and how to win. I hope all this will come to them. Coaches are still learning also. They need to work on their rotation of players and using their timeouts mainly. I don't believe Ben is completely healthy yet. Plus he must work harder to get open against better teams who play a tighter defense against him than other teams. I believe he will be fine next year if he sticks around. Bailey is history, he checked out many games ago. As many has said he has never changed his game from AAU to College game. Haffner has played better in last few games, I hope he stays around next year. Kallee needs to be shown the door. I don't stay on top of who we have or may have coming in next year but I sure hope we are getting some faster guards, and bulkier big men. Not been a bad year overall. Good luck Aces in the next coming games.
