Probably too late down 82-76 with 25 seconds left but #5 (51%) and #3 (62%) are the guys to foul. I think they both made both free throws in the last minute though. At this point we just have to foul and take our chances though. Odds not in our favor.

We give up way , way too many points. Not going to win a lot of games that way

You win some and you lose some but this hurts as we should have won this one and end up losing 88-79.

Very discouraging to watch this game. The 2nd half was terrible.

We were up 63-58 with 6:40 left and lost 88-79. That is a 30-16 run for UIC and that doesn't even count the points we gave away in the first half where we should have been up significantly at the half (certainly 5-10 points). Give UIC credit but we did not play a clean game but looked good in spurts.

We play like a team that is not one bit interested in winning! So tired of losing games we should be winning! Oh, well, guess it's time for our usual, "Wait till next year." Forget St. Louis...we'll just be the usual ole Evansville that we have been there for years!
Do I sound a bit bitter? You're darn right, I am!

Illinois State is certainly hot right now. They beat UNI.
SIU holds off Murray State.
We are certainly not looking good right now.

Hard to win on the road when you give up 52 second half points and your starting point guard doesn’t score and has one assist. Toumi was held well below his season average as well. The past two games have been lost on the defensive end due to lack of toughness and poor effort and communication on the defensive end. This group looked like they all ate their own deep dish pizza before the game.

Tonight I am simply so tired of such a half-hearted effort with our usual spectator defense, and I have higher expectations of this team than what they often show to have for themselves!

We are not a very good team defensively but make up for it with double teaming and weak side help. That’s going to leave shooters open and space for drivers. Valley coaches have figured this out and do a lot of passing and ball reversals without the dribble. The pass is quicker than the defense and a high percentage shot follows.
Coach knows this and needs to improve the recruitment of better athletes. This will come in time. We may not win another game this year but we exceeded the expectations of most.
We have a number of key players who will be leaving this year. Hopefully it won’t be portal losses. If we recruit better than our losses the future will be good to us.

I’ll add one more thought about the defensive effort during this Illinois road trip. I’ve seen way too many UE players go for shot fakes and fly-by players on close outs the past 2 games. Then, for some reason tonight, UE had numerous players cheat for steals on the perimeter and take themselves out of the play. That’s poor fundamentals that can’t happen a week before March. The way this team guards screens has to either change or significantly improve in a short amount of time. Switches are slow or lead to mismatches that are allowing guards to beat our taller guys to the bucket. One time tonight, UIC ran a weak slip screen on an out of bounds play under the basket. UE switched it for no reason and Haffner ends up stuck guarding 6’9” Smallwood and he scores an easy deuce.

Also -- Shot and ball fakes -- one of our weaknesses on the offensive end.

The crowd of 50 intimidated us.
