I agree $20 is insane and it should be cheaper for the elderly fans that truly need to park close to the facility, but even with our aging fan base, I’d say 90% of people in the Ford Center on any given night are more than capable of making the 1.5 block walk from the ONEP lot to a ford center entry point.

First of all I am not a donor to UE or a top notch ticket holder. But my opinion is the big donors and special season ticket holders should get to park for free in the 2 lots by the Ford Center .

Im not a big donor either, but they do get the best parking available to them. The big donors all have parking passes to park in the lot on Ford Center property by the sky bridge access. It only holds probably 20-30 cars though, so you’ve got to be a big big donor to get access, but I think those people can park there and walk directly into the lower level of the Ford Center without going through the main entrances.

they used to give a garage parking pass to all of the PAC club season ticket holders for years. At first they had some in the Locust street garage and some in the sycamore garage. then they moved everyone to the Sycamore garage. That stopped around Marty's last year I believe or somewhere in that range. Could have been McCarty's first year??
That was a really nice perk - would be nice to see that come back would be a decent incentive to get people to buy season tickets potentially.

I’m not sure if it’s related or not, but the Doubletree parking garage was free for all Aces games during McCartys first season. Maybe they assumed that would fill the void? I’m not sure but they did away with that year two and haven’t had free parking since I don’t think. It would be nice if that was something offered though. I don’t go in the doubletree parking garage often, but I’ve never seen it at more than 10% capacity.

I park for Pacers games a block from the stadium for $10 so I agree $20 is robbery for the Aces. I have a tip that I will share with the message board family... I heard that the Lics parking lot is $10 but on weekday games they don't have anyone out there collecting money.

I saw the sign for $20 on Saturday, no sign out in front of the Doubletree tonight.
Saturday there was a big cheer competition at Old National........I wonder if having multiple events or an event that caters more to out of towners was the reasoning behind the $20 charge on Saturday. Will be interesting to see what the garage charges when the State Finals for wrestling are at Ford Center in a few weeks.

The $20 parking lot at Locust and 6th is city owned and credit card only! The prices doubled after the Murray State game. I guess the city felt it could make a killing with the increase in attendance. I do not attend Icemen games so I don't know if this price increase includes their games or was already in effect. According to property records, that lot (6th St. between Locust & Walnut) is owned by Deaconess Health System. Got to pay for buying a dozen hospitals in three states somehow, and I guess charging $711 for mammograms won't cut it. The lot next to CMOE is owned by a private developer.
A couple of other fun facts about downtown parking: The Evansville-Vanderburgh County Building Authority, which operates the downtown parking garages, is a five member commission. Mayor Terry will appoint one member of that commission, for a term that begins on Jan 1st, 2025. The only new commissioner this year was appointed by the Vanderburgh Co. Commissioners last summer.

Plenty of free parking, its just a shame that these businesses take advantage of people when a large crowd is expected. The only time I have seen a parking fee charged in the Liberty credit union is during a event at ONB facility.

Oh how I miss Roberts Stadium easy in and out and when you, plenty of wheel chair parking and in the cold you were inside in less than 10 minutes. Heaven forbid that we could of built the new arena behind the old Roberts. Thanks to the old Dem. mayor can't wait to see what this one does.

Oh how I miss Roberts Stadium easy in and out and when you, plenty of wheel chair parking and in the cold you were inside in less than 10 minutes. Heaven forbid that we could have built the new arena behind the old Roberts. Thanks to the old Dem. mayor can't wait to see what this one does. There are multiple free lots that are a little over a 5 minute walk of the stadium. The ONEP lot and the old deaconess hospital lots are free and 1 block from the stadium. Unless you were front row parking at Robert’s you were still walking 300-400 feet from most parking spots. The free lots I mentioned are only 1200 feet from the stadium. It’s a difference for sure, but nothing worth complaining this much about imo. I’ll be honest I never attended a basketball game at Robert’s, but I attended concerts and other events where everyone leaves at the same time and I don’t recall it being easy to exit. There was only two entry/exif points for thousands of people. I think getting in and out of the lots downtown is significantly better imo. It’s also laughable that people think the new Mayor came in January 1st and the first thing on her agenda was to immediately increase the price of parking for Ford Center Events. I think it’s a lot more reasonable to think it was probably already a pre-scheduled price increase for January 2024 that was set by a city employee that’s worked for both administrations. I support writing to inform the mayor that the pricing is absurd because she can hopefully change it, but I really doubt the top of her to do list on her first days in office was to assess Ford Center event parking pricing.

pilotj cleared up that this isn't a city issue, as Deaconess is apparently the owner of the lot that jumped up to $20. That makes sense since both the city garages are still at $7. I parked in one last night. I also noticed the lot behind the Victory is still $10.
Deaconess obviously can charge what they want as they are a private business. It certainly isn't being a good community partner by doing so though. As I came down Locust last night, I saw a car backing out of the entrance, I assume out of sticker shock for the amount. I also noticed after the game had started, there couldn't have been more than 10 cars in that lot. There are plenty of options where this lot can be avoided. I have no idea what happened to the two lots behind CMOE that were $5. They look fairly full, but there hasn't been anyone there collecting money. Possibly filling up quicker than normal.
As for Roberts, I absolutely hated leaving that lot. Yes, there were plenty of times I probably did walk farther to the back of the lot than I have downtown. Other than the selective price gouging, I prefer downtown to the Roberts lot. I get home to Newburgh quicker now than I ever did at Roberts...and it wasn't always free. For many years, there was a parking fee when you entered. I think the last one was $3. Calculate that into today's dollars and the $7-$10 charge is reasonable.

I parked for free and I wasn't even a block away from the Ford Center. Do I think $20 is a lot? Yes. So my solution is to not park there. The only thing that will drive the price down on those lots is people not parking there. Seems like a simple solution. Nobody is gouging anyone. There's plenty of other parking options.

The only time I have seen a parking fee charged in the Liberty credit union is during a event at ONB facility. If there's plenty of free parking then nobody is taking advantage of anyone. People are choosing to park in a lot that is owned by a private entity. If they notice that people are no longer willing to pay their price then they will lower the cost.
