Speaking of rip-offs that could deter fans, has anyone noticed the spike in the parking lots around the Ford Center? The lot on the southwest corner of Locust and 6th spiked from $10 to $20. The Doubletree garage also shot up to $20. The $5 lot behind CMOE hasn't been open the last few games.
I have never been one of those who complained about downtown parking, but I do think $20 is outrageous and could deter fans from coming. If a family of four goes the Ticketmaster route, they could realistically drop $100 before they get in the door. God forbid the kids want something from the concession stand.
Even with more buzz around the program, we are still only putting about a 1/3 of the capacity in there most games. I would think all parties involved...Venuworks, UE, Parking lot operators, etc would be working together to do what they could to get more butts in the door, not gouging the ones who are showing up now.

The $20 parking lot at Locust and 6th is city owned and credit card only! The prices doubled after the Murray State game. I guess the city felt it could make a killing with the increase in attendance. I do not attend Icemen games so I don't know if this price increase includes their games or was already in effect. I checked out the Doubletree price before the season and it was listed at $20 back in November.

I am pumped for this game! I have lived in Iowa for 25 years. I have watched 80% of Aces games since they have been on espn+, and listened online before that. I have been to games at UNI and Drake and a game at Illinois State since I have been to one in Evansville, and that was maybe 15 years ago. I will be at the game - my first game in Evansville in a long time and my first at the Ford Center. Ticket experience: four $7 tickets cost $70 and change on Ticketmaster with fees included. So I went to Carson Center and four $10 tickets cost $40. The fees were more than the tickets online. That seemed almost criminal and I would think that would discourage people from attending the game. Welcome back. Hopefully you get to see the boys get a W. Glad to hear you went to Carson Center. You can also buy at the Ford Center during the week and avoid all the Ticketmaster fees. It changed when the new mayor took over!! 😡🙄💰

This could have a negative impact on both the Aces and Thunderbolts.

I am going to move the parking comments away from the UIC thread. This issue deserves it's own thread. May move to Off-Topic, but it does involve the Men's Basketball Games.

I submitted this to the Mayor's office today via the City website --- here is the link to submit a concern to the mayor: www.evansvillegov.org/egov/apps/action/center.egov?view=form;page=1;id=38Submitted Information Contact Information Name: UE fan Email Address: @gmail.com Phone Number: -- Address: , , Nature of Inquiry Description: Several fans on the UE athletics blog have commented about the cost of using the parking garage at "Locust and 6th" -- that it has risen from $10 to $20 for UE games since the new mayor has taken office. $20 to park in Evansville is ridiculous.

I saw the new Mayor at a UE game before the new year. She was with her family.

I fired one off as well. I suggested they review the Atlanta Falcons, who found by lowering concession and parking prices, they were able to increase revenue with greater sales.
I can tell you, if the other lots follow and I have to pay $20 per game to park, my season tickets will be going away.

Hell, to park at Bellarmine was $20, I believe, and parking at TH is less than $5. In no way should parking in Evansville be $20.
Just another reason for the on campus arena, but I won’t go into that one.

What location would y'all think is best, if at all available? I have my ideas. I think this could be discussed, and if an appropriate idea makes sense, let's discuss financing, donations, city/state help, etc. Shoot me down, but I really think it's a good discussion to have again.

Thanks for sharing this info! I also submitted a form this afternoon. I noticed the outlandish parking prices at last weekend's game. Parking and concession prices are getting WAY out of hand. I agree, it's totally unreasonable!
Ahh, the good old days at Roberts Stadium. Parking and getting into the stadium was certainly less of a headache back then.

The Locust Street parking garage, which is 1 block from the Ford Center, was $10 on Sat. I'm told the price was $6 last year.

There is free parking behind the ONB Events Plaza. It’s almost as close as the paid lots. I’ve never understood all the complaints about parking at the Ford Center with the massive free lot by the civic center

I street park and never pay, but still think I needed to push back on the $20 charge at the Locust St garage. We live in Evansville, not a major metro area, and expect prices to be reasonable.
