I heard the radio announcers prior to the IU/Purdue game discussing their upcoming game. and they both agreed that by this time in the season a coach should know his best 5 -6 players and play them most of the game, barring serious foul trouble, etc. I think our "subbing" by squads at set times in games hurts us. I think we need to have a starting five that includes Cuff and Bailey {yes, I know Bailey can be a little too selfish, but he is capable of putting a lot of points on the board). Ben, Josh, and Toumi also should be on that starting bunch. I know Ben's injury has messed up our line-up, but we still have lots of games left to play and I hope we play most of the minutes with our most-capable line-up. Just my opinion...I think the flow of the game should start with our best and not be so often broken up. Also, we were lucky to win this game with our silly turnovers and our weak defense ...have to improve in both areas, and fast! Seems like you have mentioned this before.

I was making reference to ESPN labeling the highlight package as Valparaiso "Crusaders" vs. Evansville Purple Aces. Guessing ESPN never got the memo concerning the mascot name change? www.espn.com/video/clip/_/id/39332959

Played the majority of the 2nd half with 3 starters on the bench, not counting ben, they were Strawbridge, Bobe, and Thomas. When Bailey went out our offense went stagnant, just saying.

Good win by the boys last night! Awesome to see Ben back (even in limited minutes) to serve as another scoring threat. In my opinion, no need to rush him back or ramp up minutes drastically for the Drake road game (my guess is Aces are going to be 15-20 point underdogs) and then let him loose starting with UNI for the rest of the year.

The lineup for the final 10 min of every close game should be: Bailey, Cuff, Humrichous, Hughes, and Toumi
This group plays well together, has a lot of length, and is savvy. This group also provides the best defense and offers lots of offensive matchup problems for the opponent to defend.

I would go smaller and sub him in for either Hughes or Toumi (whichever is playing worse). They have to find a way to bottle up what he did in that 8-10 minute stretch cause that is what this team needs. He's way too talented to be putting up the numbers he is. The other four I agree with. But I think Haffner needs to be in the mix. I completely agree with Austin about putting Cuff in the middle of the floor too - that worked well when we went to that. Was a lot like we used to do with Wing.

One of the ESPN announcers mentioned that he had been to several UE practices and that Hafner gets the job done Mon-Fri on the practice court and he just needs to bring it on game day. He also said that Hafner is a really good player and it’s only a matter of time until he brings his skills to the games and when he does UE will be a much better team.
I thought Hafner played his best game of the year last night and getting the post game belt showed I was not the only one. He adds a lot of quickness to the shooting guard position and has one of the best catch and release shots on the team.
Is his Dad’s shadow holding him down? Possibly but once Cam breaks through we will be glad he’s here.

At some point this season, Cam is going to have a breakthrough game. The OVC's freshman of the year is too good of a shooter not to. He played some solid minutes last night.

I was impressed with Cam as well, 2 times he took his man off the dribble towards the end. One he scored and another hit Bailey for a wide open 3.

So are you saying you want Chuck on the floor? Because last week after the Bradley game, you said the only good thing was that Bailey was on the bench for the last 5 minutes. During the same game, you said that Chuck isn't a team player and the rest of the team stands around watching him play one on one. For the record, not that the coaches need advice from us, I like to see Bailey in the game. He's our most talented guard and isn't afraid to make things happen. And that includes getting the ball to an open teammate. He is a freshman and turns the ball over at times, but most of the time the positive he brings outweighs the negative.

Just an observation. Early games when we had breakout stretches and were scoring in the 80s and 90s, Toumi was involved as was Strawbridge and Thomas. But not necessarily together. In the last 6 games when they play together (which is often) you get the sense, they are just on cruise control. Don't play bad but not going to change or impact the game. Set on 72mph. OK if the other team is driving at 67, but not going to pass anybody. Sort of, what you see is what you get. Just sayin!

Haffner finally had a good game, but it doesn't warrant him to be in the mix at the end of a game unless he continues to improve. Now he is the only player that cuts to the basket without the ball

We definitely had a height advantage over valpo last night in my opinion to me should not have been allowed to get outside of 10 feet from the basket he should have stayed around the basket and they should have dished the ball into it due to his height
