Looks like it was a 24-7 run for us. We were down 25 at the 10:13 mark (48-73). At the 2:06 mark we had it down to an eight point game (72-80).
Great effort in the comeback and no quit; just got down way too far.
Yacine with a great game as others have mentioned. 19 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, a game high efficiency rating of +25. An efficient 9-13 from the field.
I think we have a shot against ISU at the Ford center if Ben is back (and all our key guys are healthy).

My feeling is that ISU is the best team in the league, we are just not there especially without Ben. I’m really hoping he can get healthy and not have a nagging injury the rest of the year.

Looks like Aces basketball has reached an all time low as far as local media coverage. There is not one single story on the Courier website about last night's game, as I write this. It's not like UE was playing at Seattle, Utah State, Pepperdine, Providence, UTEP, or some other faraway destination. BTW, the places I mentioned are all places UE has played at in the past with local reporters there. There has to be, and if not, should be someone available to cover a game against a big rival within a relatively short drive. At least watch it on TV or online like during Covid, and then make a phone call or 2 for some quotes. Fans are rightfully asking for answers to questions regarding NIL deals for players, and injury concerns, etc. But nobody can get answers to those or any questions if there is nobody around to ask them. Anthony is a good writer, but like a player on IL, he can't contribute if he is dealing with other things and not available. There should be someone around who can at least provide token coverage.

Thanks for that link austinace. The Tri State homepage is not the same as the Evansville Courier and Press though. I didn't say there were no articles on the game but was that there was no coverage from the our local newspaper. When on the Courier website, they don't have a story.

I didn't say there were no articles on the game but was that there was no coverage from the our local newspaper. When on the Courier website, they don't have a story. Without much more than what I observe to base this on, it appears the Courier has decided to lean on high school sports as its go-to coverage. I rarely see anything on the UE women's team, and the excuse that they're bad isn't a good one. The online paper has very little UE/USI coverage, with the occasional feature being waved as, "what about this?" If they aren't sending a writer on the road, there are hundreds of free-lance scribes who'd do a credible job as a stringer. You can swap photography with the other newspaper. In the spring, baseball that we include here on the PAP pages is more than Courier readers get. Either way, I am reluctant to bash the Courier's beat writer but I do think that's something that's been handed over to somebody who isn't as zealous as they were in the olden days.

The problem is that the courier is predominantly focused on HS athletics as ATP suggested. They have 2 beat writers covering HS sports, and then Anthony covering both UE & USI. Prior to budget cuts last year, there were different beat writers for each program. Now that Anthony is covering both, coverage has definitely reduced for both programs, but he is doing the best he can imo. This is a problem with what Gannet has reduced local newspapers to across the country and not a courier specific issue. I’m sure Chad Lindskog would love to have beat writers for each program and a plethora of coverage, but it just isn’t in the budget anymore with Gannets cuts.

The Courier-Press has lost their local want to cover local teams. They get all their stories from outside the area and run with that.

I am not sure why there isn't a story but Anthony was tweeting during the entire game last night. I had to step out a bit in the 2nd half and was following him on my phone. I just assumed he was up there. He has been sent farther this year.
It's a never ending cycle...subscriptions drop, Gannet cuts back. Gannet cuts back, more subscribers drop. Rinse and repeat. Gannet is no friend to local papers, but I am not sure they just aren't hastening the inevitable.
Last I knew, the Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer was still being printed in town. If so, I would take a look at the costs of adding some Evansville based writers like Chad, Anthony, etc, maybe an Evansville sales guy and make it a daily regional. Papers printed in Owensboro should have no problem hitting Evansville mailboxes and doorsteps in the morning. Evansville itself may no longer be able to support two locally published dailys, but a combined Evansville-Owensboro market of over 500K should be able to support one even in today's world.

They probably got Anthony spread too thin covering both UE and USI with his other responsibilities as well. But just a guess as I think that he could likely write a story like this with interviews and all in not more than a couple of hours. Just a guess though on why one game may have an article and one may not.

For sure it is long past time for local media to be creative and your suggestion is as good as I ever heard. Full disclosure: I retired from the industry 12 years back. It wasn't hard to see what was going wrong and to suggest change wasn't something middle management wanted. They bought into the "cloud" concept of news media, which was the joke that finally shoved me out the door. But it is also about content. They can't keep filling up the news hole with "analysis" and "perspective" from people who only get to have that opinion because they've convinced somebody they are smart. A whole lot less politics and a whole lot more sports. We'd be better off.

Hughes had he hand out to help the ISU player off the floor, no one from ISU was helping him up, so Hughes had his hand out. Bailey came over and knocked Hughes' hand back, as if to say, don't help him up. Then things were said and it got a little heated. That's why the student section was booing Bailey later when he touched the ball. Good effort again by the team minus Ben. He definitely would have made a difference in the last two games. Nice job by Shertz, he's put together a good team in less than three years. Thank you for clarifying. I thought that is what it was, but seeing it through all the players was near impossible. And yes, Shertz put a good team on the floor in year three, will likely be gone in year four. I went back and looked at the play and the "minor smirish" after the play. AcesFan65 is right on. The play happened about 31 or 32 minutes into the ESPN+ feed with 5:15 to go in the first half. Kent (from ISU) went up strong to the basket and Bailey went up equally strong (as if to say not on my watch) and there was some hard contact, but it was a "basketball play" - so that is why the review didn't escalate it to anything other than a common foul. However, as AcesFan65 described: There were a couple of ISU players on the ground. One was helped up by his ISU teammates. The other ISU player still on the ground, I believe was Kent, and Josh reached his hand out to help him up (and their hands had already made contact) and Chuck slapped Josh's hand away. To Chuck's credit he seemed to walk away after that. But Bledsoe, who was at mid-court when this happened came all the way down to that side of the court and seemed to be going in Chuck's direction as other players were trying to keep the peace. Things were fairly quickly settled down as the officials did a review. I'm guessing there was some back and forth before that (but speculation). The crowd did appear to boo Chuck every time he touched the ball after that (at least for the first half). Chuck stayed in the rest of the half. Surprised that Rags didn't pull him out, but maybe he was ok with what transpired or possibly he didn't see what happened. Seems like poor sportsmanship on Chuck's part. Will have to re-watch if when Chuck slapped his hand that caused Kent to fall back down a little bit or not; but doubt it as Chuck slapped Josh's hand away just as they were making contact. Anyhow that is what I saw when I replayed it. You do have to like how Chuck plays fearless and is not intimated though.

The newspaper business has become a dinosaur. I don’t see it ever making a comeback. Young people especially get all their information from an iPhone.

It might just be a thing that CB3 was exposed to where he played basketball before.
