Not too happy with an 8am start time. Seems like they would give #3/#4 seeds the 11:30am game and have the #5-8 seeded teams play the early morning game.

On the bright side it might give them a few more hours of rest between games and allow them to focus on winning their game and then scout the next game. However, I’m sure by now all the teams pretty much know each other by now. Probably not much to scout.

The problem with a 9 a.m. game is simple -- the damned sun is in the wrong place. It's in the hitter's eyes. Not only is this stupid, but it's dangerous to play baseball at that hour. Legitimacy should be the domain of people who actually do some thinking.

One thing about Greta's Climate Change, it never confers w/ the NCAA umpires and MVC brass...I'll call the TH Rail Yard to see if they can provide some replacement entertainment. Just a half-century ago, you'd never been able to see the sunrise in TH because of the air pollution. But oh, such a fragrance in the air...when mixed w/ the sounds of Paul Dresser's "Banks of the Wabash," it would tickle your olfactory awareness of Hoosier industrial greatness and human sacrifice.

Ha, yeah my concern is misplaced if it's cloudy that day. I recall playing softball games back in the day and tournaments starting at 8 in the morning. The grass was still wet and it was too early for a beer, too late to choose another hobby. Of course, a 12-foot arching pitch was rarely fatal.

The way the aces have been hitting the ball lately maybe the sun needs to be in there eyes. And the way our pitchers have been pitching maybe the other batters will be blinded.

ATP, you should've umpired those baseball tournament's @ Cocoa Expo, FL after MLB umps Brinkman & Froemming purchased the facility. You'd quickly see why the Astro's "flew the coop" when the Brevard Co. Commissioners refused to upgrade the facility in the early 80's. Those 8am games still had gators searching for mates on the infield! If you had the dish, ya had to WIPE rather than brush. And that humidity is horrible...2 bottles of Gatorade/gm minimum. Thank God for the hot momma's to keep ya on your toes...

Seriously, if you have to wedge in 8 a.m. games in a D-1 post-season tournament, you either (a.) need to find a second field or (b.) have fewer teams. A third option is to stretch it out another day, which most likely happens every year or so anyhow. They should never play a baseball game before 11 a.m. Of course, I recall playing some games that started at 9 at night and looking down at my ankles, seeing a black mass of mosquitoes.

They could make opening round #5v8 and #6v7 games on Tuesday single elimination, then there would be no loser vs loser, 12:30pm game on Wednesday (or if they keep it at least make it the 9am game.)
Winning our first game is key to avoid playing 2 games on Thursday (with another 9am start)

One thing about double elimination...you find out quickly if you have any pitching depth!

I'd hate to see them wreck the tournament over this sort of thing and double-elim is traditional. It seems, though, that just scheduling a game at that hour was something the bean counters do. Oh, we can play a game at 9 a.m. (Oh, IT NEVER OCCURRED to me that the sun rises in the east.)
I suppose the coaches didn't have a say in this and if they did, they wouldn't have an alternative that the MVC would find acceptable. Maybe it's no big deal. They don't build ballparks facing east for no reason. Holding off until 10 o'clock would be a big help. I mean... they do have lights.
To me, it's not about whether teams earn a better start time. It's just not a good idea for a hitter face a pitcher with the 9 a.m. sun in his face.

ISU’s baseball field actually faces northeast like a lot of baseball fields. So at least it does not face directly into the sun. But point is well taken and it is likely to cause some problems for the hitters. Google map of ISU field: 39°28'43.0"N 87°24'59.0"W maps.app.goo.gl/C9kHG1gtNnDR9wMx9?g_st=ic

A side note concerning the MVC tourney. Ziggy told me that we cannot host it because our press box is too small.

Left field line straight North and right field line is East.
