Listened to the Jevin interview with coach and Rags mentioned there is a game with Tenn Tech on the schedule. Per the interview portion about the schedule, here is what I gathered will be the order of the games -- please edit if you know specific dates. Miami (Ohio), Nov. 6 Tennessee-Martin, TBA at Southeast Missouri State, TBA Ball State, Nov. 18th ?? at Las Vegas Holiday Classic, Nov. 24-25 (or another MTE) MVC MVC at BYU, Dec. 6 at Bellarmine, Dec. 16 Tenn Tech, TBA at Cincinnati, Dec. 29 or 30 ($78,000 payout) Anyone care to take a guess what the alternative MTE would be: www.bloggingthebracket.com/2023/4/4/23665918/2023-24-mens-college-basketball-exempt-multi-team-events-mte-thanksgiving-early-season-tournaments

Obviously I don’t know which MTE we will land in, but below is what I can deduce as far as location/MTE possibilities. There is a Continental Tire Main Event MTE that’s in Vegas and they’re still looking for another team. There’s some decent teams in that tournament with Xavier and St. Mary’s - just another option and it would still be in Vegas. Other MTE’s that are still looking for at least one team - their locations are: two in Florida (Jacksonville and Daytona Beach); one in California (San Juan Capistrano); one (mentioned above) in Vegas; one in Alabama (Mobile); and one in San Antonio. Note: I haven't had time to totally vet this and am noticing some tournaments say TBA versus TBD which implies they may already have determined a participating school and just not announced it.

MTE's with possible openings as of 7/14/2023: MTE | Dates | Location | TBA/TBD | Schools and Notes | Continental Tire Main Event | Nov 17 and 19 | Las Vegas | 1 TBA | Saint Mary’s (WCC) San Diego State (MW) Washington (Pac-12) Xavier. Bryant is tentative.
| Ocean Bracket (Visitors) which is part of the Sunshine Slam | Nov. TBA Nov 20 and 21?
| Daytona, FL or at host schools | 1 TBD | Sam Houston State (WAC), Siena (MAAC), Stetson (ASUN) Note: Host schools are Colorado, FSU, Richmond, UNLV | Palms Division of Rocket Mortgage Fort Myers Tip-off | Nov 20-22 | Fort Myers, FL? | 2 TBA | Murray State (MVC) UNCW (CAA) 2 TBA Note: Teams in the "Beach" division are: Wisconsin (Big Ten) vs. Virginia (ACC) West Virginia (Big 12) vs. SMU | Sand Division (Visitors) of SoCal Challenge | Nov 20 and 22 | San Juan Capistrano, Calif. | 4 TBA | Host teams are: Bradley (MVC) California (Pac-12) Tulane (American) UTEP (CUSA) | Las Vegas Holiday Classic
| Nov 24-25 | Las Vegas | 3 TBD | Evansville | South Alabama MTE | Nov 15-18 | Mobile, AL | 1 TBD | Denver (Summit) Nicholls State (Southland) South Alabama (Sun Belt)
| UTSA MTE | Nov 24-27 | San Antonio, Texas | 1 TBD | Incarnate Word (Southland) Jacksonville State (C-USA) UTSA (American)
| Montana State MTE | Nov. TBA | Campus Sites | 1 TBD? | Green Bay (Horizon) Montana State (Big Sky) Southern Utah (WAC)
| Northern Kentucky MTE | Nov. TBA | Highland Heights, KY | 1 or 2 TBD | LIU (NEC) Northern Kentucky (Horizon)
|
These are the nine tournaments that I see as possibilities. I'm sure others can weed this down further by the dates. Also guessing sites out west are preferred. That would likely make the two Vegas tournaments and the SoCal Challenge tournaments as possibilities. San Antonio could be a possibility as well based on the Nov 24-27 dates. Anybody know of any confirmed games the last couple of weeks of November that might rule out any of these tournaments?

Rocco Miller (a very reliable twitter journalist) said we have a home game against Ball State Nov 18th. That rules out a few of them. Most MTEs typically only take one team per conference due to the scheduling difficulties and not wanting conference teams to play in the non con, so that would rule out a few others as well. I know Valpo was in our MTE last year, but that’s usually a very rare situation I believe.

So that seems to bring the possible MTE options to:
The original Vegas MTE, the San Antonio MTE, the Montana MTE or the Northern Kentucky MTE.
Rags said there were three other options - so they’re probably in that list above.

As I recall, the tournament last year came during a stretch where the team played 6 games in 9 days. Then 3 days later, had to play a conference game. One hopes that doesn't happen again.

With those awful options, I hope they just participate in the Northern Kentucky MTE…save travel money, driving distance for fans, and more ability to be visible in the Cincinnati metro area for recruiting.

I had the same thought. If the Ball State game is on Saturday, Nov 18th, I wouldn't mind starting the MTE on Nov. 20th and get it over with so the guys can enjoy Thanksgiving as a team, then get back in the gym to prepare for the 2 early MVC games.

Seems like we need to be a bit more intentional about finding a MTE to play in next year. I would look at where other MVC schools are playing this year and make those the target MTE's for next year. Ziggy should be able to make it happen.

330,000 population for Henderson? I recall when it was about 1,700. Good grief, did they move the city limits sign east to Denver?

330,000 population for Henderson? I recall when it was about 1,700. Good grief, did they move the city limits sign east to Denver? Henderson, NV has certainly grown through the years. A quick check shows the population was around 65,000 in 1990 and 7,410 when it was incorporated in 1953. So unless they did move the city boundaries you must be going way back. 😀 “…incorporated it as a city in 1953. At the time of its incorporation, the city had a population of 7,410 people...” Reference: worldpopulationreview.com/us-cities/henderson-nv-population

Last year, the Las Vegas invitational (that we are currently committed to play in) was an 8 team bracketed MTE. This year, it is a mess. I think I know why (just my thought on what happened, so I could be wrong.) We commit to the event early along with five other teams to have 6 of 8 in toe for it. (Probably) through pressure, the event coordinators “split up” the event into two, four team events (with UE being the odd man out). The coordinators promise that they will work to ensure quality opponents are in both MTEs, and it was even listed on blogging the brackets that one of the five would be joining UE in the LV Invitational. Secret plans are made, and eventually the sycks are brought in as the 6th team for that MTE, all the while, leaving UE to twist in the wind. I say as of this point, tell the coordinators to shove it, go join an on campus MTE for this year, and make a damn statement. It’s that simple.

Officially cancelled. Don’t love playing SEMO twice but beggars can’t be choosers this late in the scheduling process.
