Facts: John Bol came on a visit; we were not in his top 10. I would rather a kid be honest with us, than lead us on. He was not obligated to do anything (even a visit). Note: Anything specific to John Bol should be moved to his thread, if it is not related to this NIL thread. You seem to have taken the role of hall monitor on this board, first suggesting some people's comments are incendiary and that you will not take part in it because, after all, divergent opinions should be respected. Now wanting this to be sent to a different thread -- honestly, in the ephemera of life, does it matter where we discuss things that had no substance to begin with? Your ability to post Twitter pictures is a positive, but otherwise ... urging calm in the face of vapid debates, is that your job here? Do not discuss left-handed things on the right-handed board, since commenters would be lost in a rabble of meaningless replies. Yeah, if mentions of Bol don't belong on an NIL page, neither does Wilson or Wilson's mentions of Bailey, Cuff or Humrichous. But, folders need people to keep things in the correct ones. There are always volunteers. I think this admonishment has more to do with the filer's personal opinions and less to do with keeping order. Any and every thread branches off as the pages go by. I think that this particular tree trimmer only gets out the saw when I show up with a soliloquy or two.

LOL....his "Dad". So, I guess you don't believe in adoption? It is properly, his Dad. I'm all in with UE...but, a top 25 kid should never attend UE, especially in this day in age. We can't give our best players car deals, cash for Christmas or basic NIL deals - which this thread is about. If we can't do that for a top 500 kid, what can we do for a top 25 kid. I always thought it was a joke and kind of wasting our time that he was even making it seem like he was slightly interested in UE. I don't like being disingenuous and that was it on steroids. Patrick Baldwin was a consensus top 5 player. Went to play for his dad at Milwaukee. His college career was miserable, he dropped to basically the last pick in the draft. And his dad still got fired. His path would have been very different if he would have just went to Duke. But hey, he played a year with his "Dad". I think I had it in my head it was more of some type of legal guardianship than actual adoption. I edited it and certainly no offense was meant in that regard. There are realistic expectations but I would stop short of saying a top 25 kid "should never attend UE". I would hope any member of our coaching staff would stop short of that as well. I would hope our staff goes after every recruit they want with everything they have and full belief they can land them. You're right that the playing field is getting more expensive and harder, but it should only be a realistic expectation a top recruit would pick a P-5. It is also not beyond the realm of expectations that a top recruit may consider a MVC level program based upon certain factors, such as your dad being a coach at one. AJ Green, DeVries and even Doug McDermott quickly come to mind as kids who could have played P5, but allowed family considerations to play in the MVC instead. I am not familiar with all of the circumstances with Patrick Baldwin but I would counter Ja Morant was a high pick playing for a Murray State program that was still in the OVC at the time. There are clear paths to the NBA from leagues like the MVC as well as paths to nicer cars and cash in years 3 and 4 of your college career. Like I keep saying, it's the perception that was sent we weren't even worthy of a family consideration. I am sure plenty of those schools on his Top 10 list weren't serious considerations, but they were all P-5 so he could say look at all the big time programs who want me. No sense being embarrassed by a lowly MVC program being included. The only fact we know is that there was bad split because Marcus keeps telling us there was. He doesn't tell us what or why, so we are left to speculation. Speculation he ridicules while not providing any of his story. This is the only logical thing I can think of to cause this and I can see where Ragland, Ziggy and company would have felt slighted.

But we also can agree that the likelihood of a top 25 player coming to UE are very low for the reasons given on this NIL thread. So, I think all or most of us on here are in agreement on that. We all are rooting for the day that we get some of these recruits to come here, especially those that are local or have local connections.

A strictly to the point thread on NILs that avoids verbal wandering would be a short one.
To compete in 2024, a school needs to capture NIL money.
UE doesn't have much of it available so they need to try harder to find it.
Is there anything left to say without repeating the same thing over and over?

I’ve kept quiet on this, and boy has it been difficult, but I have hit the boiling point, and need to get this off my chest.
I understand the post by Marcus (calling himself MWil on Twitter now although he is in his 40s), but the thing about it that really burns my biscuits is this. It seems that he is targeting us as a group that we need to fund the collective to try to maintain and keep these players, but my question is simple. How much has Marcus given to the NIL for UE, the school that he attended and claims to love and wants to see rise up? I can almost guarantee that it is next to nothing at most. Meanwhile, I am expected by him to “generously” give to the NIL to pay Ben his 150k, or Tanner his 100k, or on down the line. Well, I can say that as of now, I donate to Aces assist, plus my purchases of season tickets, and individual donations through the year, I am tapped. Choice then becomes, I could then either donate to NIL, or buy my season tickets. And I guarantee to an extent that this is the way it is for most of the people in attendance.
Rant over. I’m done now.

Hopefully Wilson will inform "his guys" that NILs are taxable income and that they won't actually pocket the full amount that he is negotiating for them.
Very soon, official visits will take place at car dealerships, skipping that whole campus nonsense.

We cannot compete with the direct NIL dollars being paid by bigger colleges. What UE can do is to help these guy build a brand for themselves, so they are a more valuable asset to local businesses to use in marketing and advertising. Call up local media and encourage them to do feature spots on these athletes--get their face out to the public.
Alternatively, maybe they help Kynidi become a Mukbang star making $$ on social media. (I had to educate myself on this one after hearing Kynidi talk about how she enjoys watching ASMR Mukbang vids) --- Thinking outside the box on this one.
