What is everyone's opinion on the Day kid.Mine is I don't see him getting a whole lot of playing time this year but I think he is more of a inside player than Josh and Toumi. I'm surprised the Aces didn't redshirt Day this season. In the portal era, the mid-major school that redshirts a freshman for other than medical reasons is only saving a year for that player to be used elsewhere by their senior year. Gage Bobe will be one of the tiny few who has spent his full eligibility as an Ace. Before that, it was Blake Simmons and he would have left also if he didn't have a daddy giving him more minutes than he would get anywhere else on the planet. If Michael Day redshirts, don't expect to see him wearing purple as a senior in 2027-28. Building a future team four years out with redshirt years is no longer a workable strategy.

In Michael Day’s case, I think it comes down to he has other players in front of him in the rotation (some upperclassman/some freshman) and he’s not likely to get many minutes (barring injury to the guys in front of him) - so why not keep his redshirt status intact if he is not likely to get any substantial minutes (if he was not redshirted)? He might stay 4-5 years. A few minutes could make the difference of another year of eligibility (literally) - just ask Marty Hill from a few years ago (where coach Marty took a beating over playing him like a minute too long and he lost his redshirt year).
