I have heard he is playing next year and will have 3 years eligibility. Anyone else hear this and how does that change our recruiting? When did Trey originally enroll at UE? In regards to the eligibility timeline, athletes playing in a division 1 program have 5 calendar years to play 4 seasons of sports starting from the time they enroll as a full-time student. The additional Covid year of eligibility would alter the rule by a year, but I'm unsure if Trey would be eligible for 3 more years. He enrolled in august 2020, so if that rule hasn’t changed, he would have 2 years left. He may have redshirted while being academically ineligible in 2021-22 though, so not sure how that would factor into all this along with the COVID year.

One assumes he will have enough credits to graduate eventually.

I’m sure there’s a waiver process for these kind of things, but it’s hard to make sense of the NCAAs decision making process on eligibility lately.

Okay, YOUR INSIGHT MAY BE RIGHT. I have an opinion. You have an opinion. I really don't care what the "old staff" thought about him. The old staff was run out of town and it wasn't because they were brilliant. I hope you are right and Rags easily finds someone with equal or greater talent than Trey Hall. That would be super spiffy. I want you to be right. But until you are, all you have is an opinion just like me. A suggestion: Dig into the archives and see what others here were saying about Trey Hall before Licky Light put him in the dog house. I'm not the only one who saw the potential. But let's go further. If Trey recognized that he needed to step back and focus on his education, my hat is off to him. That is what character looks like. I can appreciate someone who wants to be better at the things that matter most. Forgiveness and second chances. Whoa! I don't just give lip service to those concepts. I believe in them. I won't let what the old staff said about him two years ago be my guiding light today. Different day, different Trey. Let me know how much more insight you need. In all fairness: Larry Opinion > Damus Opinion

I will agree 100 percent with you Whiskers, or damus, if you prefer. While we may have butted heads over many things on this board, this is one that I can get behind. Trey deserves the chance to come back if he feels he is ready. He would give us what we are sorely lacking, but the rest of the Valley teams seem to have, a stretch 4. I will say, I also would take little of what the “Butler dream staff” has to say with regards to any of these players seriously. They were released for a reason. As far as whiskers statement on admiring him for making the decision to step back and focus on academics, I’m glad he’s focusing on academics, and I hope is learning and growing in his time away from basketball, but if you believe he made that decision himself….. I’ve got some beachfront property in Nebraska to sell you. I wish Trey the best wherever he ends up, but I am seriously doubtful it will be with us next year. Are you sure you wouldn't rather be found right than hope the best for him? There is a lot of unbecoming dart throwing around here at players who leave the team. How many have you thrown at those you pretend to care about? And oh, if others helped Trey make a decision to improve his life and he accepted the help, so much so that he hasn't let a bruised ego and hurt butt prevent him from humbly returning as a Purple Ace, that's another feather in his cap. More power to him. Putting ego aside and being receptive to helpful advice is a virtue. You missed badly with that dart. But good luck with your real estate career.

It wasn’t advice that led to this decision. The announcement came a week or two after grades were finalized for the summer session. Do you seriously think he was “advised” to forgo his scholarship for a year and give it back to Gage? Or did they set academic standards that he had failed to meet for two straight years and after failing to meet again during the summer sessions and still being academically ineligible, they decided for him that he would no longer be apart of the team? Send the down payment for that property whenever you get a chance.. it’s got a wonderful view.

I’m sure there’s a waiver process for these kind of things, but it’s hard to make sense of the NCAAs decision making process on eligibility lately. I think the NCAA rules are designed to let all the Big 12 teams gobble up the first 8 seeds in the tournament, so the rules will let them pick over anybody they need. Eligibility has to be extremely flexible for that to fully work. This snarky opinion in brought to you by Cynica, the Bank that lets you choose your own phone company and get the homeowners-car-accident-theft-flood insurance you need for hundreds of dollars less.

What are the criteria for evaluating opinions?
I am going to assume that some facts are being distributed, or -- at worst -- some logical guesses or weighted random observations. Aside from that, any opinion that agrees with mine stops being stellar and starts to create a fun-filled version of the truth. If two or more people say the Earth is flat, they have a fair chance of at least getting a spot on the ballot.

Lol loved reading through this. Larry made you look silly though as always.
As for this previous statement:
I will agree 100 percent with you Whiskers, or damus, if you prefer. While we may have butted heads over many things on this board, this is one that I can get behind. Please explain what Trey has done to warrant the statement “he would give us the stretch 4 we are sorely lacking”. I mean if this is true, has he just been hiding it these past few years? I’ve seen nothing with my own 2 eyes to believe this to be true. Move on and recruit new blood. He had his chances and blew them. Old high school ratings mean nothing aka Kristian Lander.

I saw Trey at the Lady Aces game today. Trey's girlfriend is Anna Newman I thought I had read that somewhere before. Maybe she can convince him to return to basketball like she did for a 5th year. I’m sure it would mean a lot to Anna to see Trey play again.

I'm pretty sure with the current Covid/Transfer/Portal eligibility rules, Trey will have 7 years if he chooses to return to the team.

Disagreeing about opinions is one thing but the name-calling isn't necessary.

True Tom but…………with all due respect isn’t Whiskers always involved in these situations?
