I thought that the week between Christmas and New Years was the official start of the conference season. Wonder how that will work now. With the 20 game schedule, last year we kicked off the MVC with games on Nov. 30 and Dec. 3rd. You are somewhat correct though, in that our next MVC games were on Dec. 29 and Jan. 1st. I’m not exactly sure anyone considered the two in the middle of NC as the official start of the conference season as the majority of the fan bases really disliked the two stand alone games.

Seemed like the people who did the scheduling for the Valley had an 18-game template in place that they used for years -- and when suddenly there were 20 games to be dealt with, they asked: Well, what do we do now? I know! Let's put those extra games on the schedule in November! Great idea!
See, problem solved. Why didn't you think of that before?
What happens if somebody drops out?

What happens if somebody drops out? The MVC Powers definitely weren’t considering how a 30 point blowout by SIU in November could lead to members of our team quitting before finals

Well, I guess this brings up the debate in regards if we should go back to an 18 game conference schedule. If so, there will be 4 teams we play only once and 2 of those will be away games. -- Benefit of this is we will be able to schedule 2 more non-conference games, and hopefully played at the Ford (and non-SWAC...lol)

Well, I guess this brings up the debate in regards if we should go back to an 18 game conference schedule. If so, there will be 4 teams we play only once and 2 of those will be away games. -- Benefit of this is we will be able to schedule 2 more non-conference games, and hopefully played at the Ford (and non-SWAC...lol) That asks a question about whether those 2 conference games played in November are (a.) good for the program (b.) profitable. The third part is that if neither (a.) nor (b.) is working, then (c.) suggests it's a bad idea and needs to stop. What was peculiar was that they wedged these games into the middle of the non-con schedule instead of at the end. If they are going to stay with 20 games, I still don't know why that's better than 18 or 22. If it is, then can somebody tell us in 25 words or less why that is. This is a time for creative and workable solutions, and I am not seeing that anybody is stepping up to take that challenge. The structure of the conferences is forever changing. It has been changing for the last 30 years. If non-con games are supposed to matter, then they should be treated with some respect.

I can't exactly say why, but I didn't get much out of that story other than, there's a grassy place now where they used to have the Center of Life as we knew it for 50 years. I suppose we all have a favorite moment from the Stadium. I'd like to open a thread that does that. I can find some clips, maybe.

I thought article was not well written. I agree now there is grass where Roberts once stood.

Per Anthony:
Missouri Valley men's basketball media day is set for Oct. 17 in St. Louis. Each coach will be in attendance with a recommended two players, all TBA.
That will be the same day the All-MVC Preseason Team as well as the preseason media poll will be announced.

My guess is that the MVC projection will be way under where this team ultimately ends up. I have a very good feeling this team will be very competitive in the MVC this year.

My guess at the media predictions is this: 1. Drake 2. UNI 3. Bradley 4. Indiana State 5. MSU 6. Belmont 7. Murray State 8. Illinois State 9. SIU 10. UIC 11. UE 12. Valpo Pretty confident the top 4 will be those teams, but the order may vary. Also pretty confident 11 & 12 will be correct. 5-10 is a crapshoot imo. I, too, think we’ll outperform our preseason ranking but it’s hard to imagine us being voted any higher than 11th. I’m hopeful we can end up in the 8-10 range when the seasons over.

Until proven otherwise, we will be picked near the bottom. Frankly, I only see Valpo and possibly UIC being picked under us. That's fine. Indiana State was picked near the bottom last year for the same reason. Much like Murray last year, this is a team that had to be totally rebuilt. I would hope for similar results.

I usually see these kinds of conferences as being one team with 16 wins, another with 14, most of the rest either dead even or one or two back of that and the bottom two fighting it out to see who can get 1 or 2 conference wins. If the Aces want to be in that middle group, they have a haul ahead of them. The difference between 11-9, 10-10 and 9-11 is not that great but it is a big deal for seeding.

I predict our kids will be .500 or better. I really think we're heading in the right direction. We need to play the best athletes/players as much as possible. I really like them, we're improving with much better athletes.
I will be back after this year as once again a season ticket holder.
