This comment gives me some hope for next year:
“I think we’re a lot closer than what people think,” Gouard said.

The PAC's 4800 capacity wouldn't be enough for this game.

The PAC's 4800 capacity wouldn't be enough for this game. If that's the case, USI could take this as a buy game at FC every other year. I don't see them wanting that. The idea that 5,000 people can't get a ticket strikes me as 60s nostalgia.

I'm not convinced that the game has to happen at all. If it does, I want it to be on UE's terms.

Seriously, UE is in a much better conference and has everything to lose. USI would be playing their "SuperBowl". UE gains really nothing with a victory over an OVC team. I don't see how this game is a must do for the Aces. I would rather see us play Indiana, Missouri, etc. as a buy game. UE would gain some cash, experience, and exposure to future recruits. I don't think playing the Screaming Eagles does much for UE's program outside of the tri-state.

On the home & home topic, it would be a hard "pass" for me. I disagree. We have no place to demand it being at our place every year. Yes, i get that the capacity can sell more tickets, but in the end, it's our home court. Iron sharpens iron and this team will be better prepared for MVC play with a loss in a sold out PAC than coasting to a 30 point blowout of Alice Brady at the Ford Center. I was a little disappointed in Ragland's comments in this story. Just own the fact you aren't ready to schedule it. Like ATP, that is where I was rolling up the pant leg. You can blame Lickliter for a lot of things, but the schedule at this point is silly. I think only Ball State and Miami are leftover series, and frankly, we should be playing both every year. I am almost certain Lickliter didn't schedule the Pharmacists. There was room and throwing BS out about previous contracts or league mandates when other MVC teams are playing them only fuels the fire that UE is too scared to play it. Stan made it perfectly clear he will answer the phone when it rings. Like I said before, if ISU and SIU can survive a loss to USI, so can we. Play the damn game. I agree 1000%. UE can’t puff out their chests to anyone at this point. It would be a good revenue producer, and the people in the city want it. Xavier and Cincinnati play each other every year I believe and it hurts neither program.

To me, this is one of those "arguments" about whether a UE-USI game means anything to the programs. In the end, it means something to the students and it means something to the community. The players couldn't give two ***ts. You have to have games against teams that people will be talking about.
USI didn't need this game last year. I don't know if they need it now. I don't even know if the Aces need this game. Nobody needs anything, really. The fans want it. That should be enough of an incentive.
But asserting that you'd rather get $105,000 to toddle up to Bloomington -- yeah, then how come "Bloomington" doesn't have that game on their schedule? Here is a hint: IU doesn't need that game. Neither does anybody else in the newly formed Big 36.
Butler isn't calling lately either. Acting like a UE-USI game isn't of any interest or that it doesn't mean anything or it doesn't help the program, you really need to be turning over a lot of rocks to find an argument to support all that.
Either way, I don't care if they never play USI. It would be more fun to go to Kentucky and win. I just hope the Eutectics don't get any big ideas.

I personally wish we would play them this season, as I think we'd easily best them. I am so tired of this make believe rivalry. Play the darn game, then let UE move on. USI can complete against the likes of EIU, SIUE, Lindenwood. I think Murray State, Northern Iowa, SIU-C, Bradley, and most MVC teams put us in a higher profile program.
