Good morning, Aces! First off congrats on the win. Really impressed with your fight. Strawbridge and Scarlett killed us in the second half. Secondly, and the reason for my post, my sincere apologies for a less than stellar job on my part. I know of the wrong pronunciations , etc. and it is just not what I do. To my defense, although not an excuse, I was one week out from total hip replacement surgery and just didn’t have time to do the prep like I normally do (like put phonetic spellings in my book). It was a long night with a WBB/MBB doubleheader and I am sorry for the mistakes. Have a great season. From the pieces that you have and Coach Ragland you are far from a last place team! Wishing you a full and speedy recovery from surgery! Impressive you were able to do that last night. Best wishes for the season.

A win is a win,but I agree Miami of Ohio is not a very good team in my opinion. I thought we could beat them before the game. Their situation was no better than ours. However, a lot of people kept picking them over us. But now that we won the game, I’m hearing people say they weren’t that good. I think it’s funny, because 24 hours ago, we weren’t that good. It’s an opening day win, against a team on their court. What ever the circumstances, I look at it as a great win! Some thought we would go 0-6 out the gate.

Any wins a good win when you’ve been through what we’ve been through since the McCarty debacle. More importantly, watching the team respond to adversity and fight back when Miami gained momentum and closed the gap was the most important thing imo. This Saturday should tell us everything we need to know about how this season will fair. Last years team goes to St Louis and comes back with a 40 point loss. This years team has way too much fight in them and I think we will find a way to keep it more competitive than Murray did last night imo.

I agree, this week will tell a lot. But if we get beat by 15, I’m okay. (As looks as we show some fight and grind). If they have to keep their starters in the game the whole game, I count that as a win.
Top 30 is top 30 for a reason.
I do think we will see a better version of our bigs. Guarding a guy 300 lbs and can move and shoot takes a lot out of ya.

Before the season I realistically thought Miami of Ohio and SEMO were our best chances for wins. Obviously on paper, coming off a 6-24 season, wins are not likely on the road against teams like SLU, SMU, and UCF; and for that matter a win on a neutral court against a 20+ win South Alabama team (last year) is a long shot (on paper). So, it goes without saying that we are going to be an underdog against everyone in the first six games outside of possibly SEMO. Back to Miami of Ohio though. Yes, I thought a win was possible but also know our history of being on the road and that road wins have never been easy for us. That’s just being realistic. But last night is the very reason that they play the games and don’t decide them on paper. Pleasantly surprised so far; obviously the task is much tougher on Saturday. But a good start and optimistic moving forward. We need to put a few games and wins together before we get too optimistic though. As Rags would say, we need to do our talking on the court. Note: It definitely helped that they were missing some key guys. They will probably be a decent team if they can get healthy.

SLU will likely be rough (I hope it's not, but I think the odds are it isn't going to be pretty). I wouldn't get too bent out of shape if it goes bad. Winning last night is a big feat. Playing a team like SLU now will give a preview of what will be required in conference play and against the AAC teams we play later in the month. It will be a good experience for them.

Honestly didn't see Miami as a game they couldn't win and if they play again in a month, likely would see a similar outcome if they played at Millett or neutral. The trick now is to energize the fan base for games at Ford Center. What comes with that is confidence. One short step at a time, the SLU game is of only marginal interest to me. Ragland has brought the fans back and the team's success will follow. If they go to Savannah with 2 wins, that's OK. If they go into the Valley with 8 wins, that's also OK. The terms 'desperate' and 'hapless' are not in the vocabulary now.

It was a good win. Give this team 7-8 games amd they are going to be fun to watch. Laying the foundation for the future. That is what this season ia all about GO ACES!

What I enjoyed in the closing minutes is we kept running our offense, not trying to take the air out of the ball. Refreshing to see guys not afraid to shoot.

Hustle, rebounds, didn’t play scared and held on to a lead on the road in spite of a momentous run by the home team.

The one thing that comes to mind from last night is that the Aces led for 39 minutes. They hit a 3 on their second possession to go up 3-2, which Toumi answered with one of his own. Despite their runs, Miami could never regain any lead. That's certainly something to build on, take confidence in.
We have pieces and I love the versatility of many of our guys. Like others mentioned, guys like Strawbridge, Coleman are just steady players and that will be the key to our success this season. This group seems to really embrace playing for one another and the other thing that stuck out to me was how as a group our guys just played last night. They celebrated each other but just continued to play, keep their composure and trust in themselves.
I can't think of a much better opening night to the Coach Ragland era than the one witnessed last night.

I wish Miami well the rest of the year. Mìrambeaux, French for Rambo?, is practically impossible to stop. Good mobility, stamina, f.t. percentage and finesse for his size. One of the season's more memorable opposing players. Wish Lairy much success too. There towards the final minutes of the game when Rambo hit a couple of 3's, I thought he was going to beat us himself. The guy was a beast.
