Some comments from the Miami of Ohio message board:
1. Don’t forget we are missing 4 guys who were going to contribute in Williams,Harrison Lewis and Etzler. That’s a good bit of our size too.
2. Safford down. Looks bad.
3. Evansville has met every challenge. Better than I thought.

I don’t want to overreact from one game… but from what I saw tonight across the league, I am very confident we are not a last place team. Also very confident that our Kenpom ranking will improve over 100 points from last season to this season

Also very confident that our Kenpom ranking will improve over 100 points from last season to this season I’m not this clever, but I’d like to know each team we play preseason KenPom rating Miami was 266. We’re currently 336, so we should get a nice bump from the W. SLU is 35, so if we can just keep that respectable, I think that should give us another bump. SEMO is 290 so need a W there to keep going up. SMU is 113. UCF is 95. If we can just compete in those games, it should help a lot. A W would do wonders for our ranking. Won’t go through the rest because I think they’re all high 100s to 300 range, but you can get the picture. Win the games you should, and compete in the games you can’t win, and we should be back around 200 or higher where we belong with the rest of the MVC.

Gage silenced the haters tonight. Hope he keeps the respectable 3 point shooting up all season and continues to get minutes. I think he's adequate for now but I'm hoping some other players step up soon. I just don't think he is quick enough. But he did play a nice game and he will be useful for depth.

Had to watch the game late. Wow! What a difference a year makes. The athleticism, the effort and the positive energy was really fun to see. My favorite part was the ability to fend off negative thoughts. There were several times Miami had the momentum and we kept our composure and made winning plays. Better competition will undoubtedly change a lot, but athletically we should not get run off the court. Great way to start the Rags/Ziggy era.

“…Monday was UE’s first opening-night road win since 1994 after dropping its previous six attempts...
The Aces battled adversity throughout the evening, starting well before Miami made it a one-point game in the second half. They overcame obstacles off the court, too.
About five minutes into UE's commute to the arena, the bus got a flat tire and couldn’t bring the Aces the rest of the way. UE needed to find another mode of transportation to its opener, and one option prevailed: Uber.
“We all scrunched up with about four in the back seat in the little, small car,” said UE guard Kenny Strawbridge Jr., who scored a team-high 23 points. “We were all just tight. It’s things like that, just makes us appreciate the wins just knowing the work we put in.”…
Whether UE has more success in the win column when the season ends remains to be seen, but the change in culture and mentality is evident already...
“Winning’s hard,” he said. “That showed. Every game, just gotta prepare. … Just like we want to win, the other team wants to win, and you just have to be committed to the little things. The little things are the winnings things.” “

Slow movement on the Kenpom. Hope we can get out of the 300s by Thanksgiving 🤞🏻

great win!
Miami isn't that good - but regardless winning on the road in the first game of the year is a very good accomplishment. Definitely something to build on. I like that he is attempting to go 9 deep and give a variety of guys looks so see who has it that night. That could make a big difference down the road, that way if someone is struggling he can plug in someone else to give a boost. That's something we haven't had in the past.
Strawbridge was very good tonight. Did a good job of using his size and getting to the rim. I do like that he can shoot the three, the mid range shots, and get to the rim. That's huge.
The other item that I didn't really see mentioned was Kalle's rebounding. Toumi's start and Kalle's rebounding really helped set the tone. That was great to see.
Tough game coming up on Saturday.

Huge win last night - loved seeing the look on Mekhi's face as his hometown team (who he surely thought he was too good to play for) beat him on his court. Great play from both the guards and forwards - for the first time in a while it looks like we can compete at the rim both in boards and points. GO ACES!!

Good morning, Aces! First off congrats on the win. Really impressed with your fight. Strawbridge and Scarlett killed us in the second half.
Secondly, and the reason for my post, my sincere apologies for a less than stellar job on my part. I know of the wrong pronunciations , etc. and it is just not what I do. To my defense, although not an excuse, I was one week out from total hip replacement surgery and just didn’t have time to do the prep like I normally do (like put phonetic spellings in my book). It was a long night with a WBB/MBB doubleheader and I am sorry for the mistakes.
Have a great season. From the pieces that you have and Coach Ragland you are far from a last place team!

I wish Miami well the rest of the year. Mìrambeaux, French for Rambo?, is practically impossible to stop. Good mobility, stamina, f.t. percentage and finesse for his size. One of the season's more memorable opposing players. Wish Lairy much success too.
