Haven’t seen anything official on his early enrollment for next year, but based on him saying he’s playing AAU this summer, I’m guessing he has decided to stay in HS for another year.

Big game for Dylan against a national powerhouse.
Let’s go after Marcus Wilson while we’re at it

This could be a very good sign for the Aces! From what Austin Ace said earlier, Dylan spoke very highly of Evansville and enjoyed his visit in September of last year. Michael Day may be encouraging him to now join up with the Aces. All the UE coaches, along with Dr. Ziggy, are following him on Twitter.

I really like what I see in this video. Kid is very talented and seems to be the prototypical guard that Rags likes.
What I don’t like is seeing him tagging assistant coaches from all those various mountain west schools in the post. Seems like he has his eyes on staying on the west coast to me. I hope we can persuade him to give the Midwest a chance. He is going to be a great midmajor guard imo

FWIW, Dr. Ziggy has recently started following Dylan on Twitter.

New Mexico State had a fine basketball program that competed in a quality conference before the recent events. Getting a commitment from Dylan Chavez shows the level of play expected of Dylan.
His visit at UE last fall shows the level of commitment the UE coaching staff and Administration have to upgrade the Men’s basketball program. I don’t know where Dylan might be going but he would certainly fit in with what is being developed at UE. With the commitments UE has obtained since Dylan’s visit he may no longer fit into Rags plans but if he does come to UE he will be most welcome.

Based on who’s following him on twitter, I think he not only fits the plans, I’d argue he’s likely their top target in the class of 2024. It’s not uncommon to see Marcus & Craig following prospects, but I haven’t really seen any (besides ones he was pursuing as an assistant at Butler) followed by Rags. Add to that that he’s also followed by Roosevelt and Ziggy, and I think it’s safe to assume there is some serious interest on our end. I haven’t seen any recruits followed by that many members of our staff. I probably put too much weight into Twitter follows, but I think it is definitely a clear indicator on us being interested in a prospect. Based on highlights I’ve watched, I also think Dylan is probably already a better player than all the guards we’ve landed since, besides Chuck Bailey. I don’t usually buy into all recruits we sign being future superstars, but I think Dylan is going to be a very good guard wherever he goes.

Before the staff at NMSU was let go, Dylan was going to re-classify to 2023 and redshirt this upcoming season. He may be a 2023.

Do you think a fanbase could use twitter and play a part to influence a kid to commit to a program? Say 100 UE fans start to follow Dylan and tell him we would love to see him at UE next year. Simply a thought and going back to my use of Guerilla marketing techniques used at different times of my business career.

Simply a thought and going back to my use of Guerilla marketing techniques used at different times of my business career. Not sure. Just depends on the kid I think. Some kids love fan interaction on social media and some kids find it annoying. For example, I once tweeted Bijan Cortes, the Oklahoma kid we reached out to, and said “Would love to see you in Evansville with Chuck Bailey!” in response to a highlight reel he posted, and he blocked me and then hid the comment on the post (Safe to say he’s not considering UE seriously). He’d retweeted Oklahoma fans supporting him before though, so I think he just didn’t want to be associated with UE sadly. But Dylan Chavez has liked other Evansville fans posts in response to him that I’ve seen. Definitely a fine line to walk between annoying them and making them feel wanted by a fan base though, and you never really know how a kid feels about it, so probably safer to not overdo it imo. After the Bijan incident, I don’t think I’ll be tweeting a recruit again unless it’s in response to a commitment, UE making a top 3,5, etc., or them posting they’re on a visit to UE.

Put a package together of Chavez, Halliday, Gorianskii and Bol in an announcement/commitment and you have Marcus Wilson’s gif. The three open scholarships filled and one for next year that will be open.

Haven’t gotten a chance to listen, but noticed in the summary notes it mentions UC Santa Barbara and CSU recruiting him, but not us. If anyone takes the time to listen, let us know if he discusses UE at all.
