I'm not a math wiz but if IU has played 100 games in 3 years Leal has averaged 4.29 minutes a game. And I'm sure the majority of those minutes were against cupcakes. But hey ha can always tell people he was Mr.Basketball and played in the Big 10.

But hey ha can always tell people he was Mr.Basketball and played in the Big 10. Leal has played in 48 games over three years and averaged 8.9 minutes a game. But you are right that he has not played much. Not sure about the cupcake comment though as a quick review of his game logs show that 35 of those 48 games were against Big Ten teams or teams like Notre Dame, Stanford, Texas, St. Mary, etc which is not exactly playing against the sisters of the poor and is definitely playing against tougher competition than he would see here. Big Ten teams play pretty tough schedules but yes there is a non-conference game here and there that is a “cupcake”.

Anyone that follows IU closely knows Leal only plays mop up minutes against the big boys when they’re blowing someone out or getting blown out. Outside of that, he only plays major minutes in the event of injury or suspension. The only game he’s played starters minutes in was the Northwestern game that had 3 guards suspended. His minutes have continually gone down year by year as Woodson has upgraded the talent on the roster over the Archie recruits. Leal is definitely what’s being described by Municup and Evilleintentions, but I hope for Joeys sake that he can carve out a role at one of the schools. Trey Galloway was ranked lower than Leal and had a comparable ranking to Joey Hart, and he has been able to carve out a nice role for himself the last 3 years. I see Joey being a Trey Galloway if things work out for him. If not, he can always transfer down and play a major role somewhere.

Getting a transfer from a P6 program isn't supposed to elevate your program to that level. The player is supposed to be a part of a cohesive team that competes inside its own schedule. One assumes that every player who comes from a P6 program is physically capable of upgrading a roster -- and upgrading one that won 5 games last year should be pretty easy.
Aces need depth, and they needed it when Ragland took over. That's probably the one part of his recruiting that suffered the most when Ragland came in so late in the process. It's maybe the one part of his program that will show the most upside this year.
Getting a guy off a P6 roster can't do anything but make the team better, even if he gets 4.8 minutes a game. Those 4.8 minutes often are the difference when you have a player in foul trouble or needs a breather.

This kid is finally supposed to announce his decision tomorrow. I keep hearing it's going to be Kentucky. Certainly looks like he is going to Kentucky. On3 recruiting prediction machine says there is a 99.1% chance that he lands at Kentucky. He just had a visit to UK last weekend. Again it seems to be down to UK, IU and Rutgers but Texas is also in the mix. www.aseaofblue.com/platform/amp/2023/6/16/23744041/joey-hart-recruit-kentucky-basketball

He’s definitely got his work cut out to play as UK had the #1 2023 recruiting class in the country. “…Hart is the seventh player in UK's 2023 recruiting class, which is ranked No. 1 nationally. The other players in the class are (3-star Jordan) Burks, a quartet of five-star prospects — Aaron Bradshaw, Robert Dillingham, Justin Edwards and DJ Wagner — and four-star, in-state signee (and UK legacy) Reed Sheppard... Hart is just the fourth three-star prospect the Wildcats have signed under Calipari… With Dillingham and Wagner likely to start in the backcourt, Hart will fight for minutes off the bench alongside Sheppard...” Sourced from: www.courier-journal.com/story/sports/college/kentucky/2023/06/17/kentucky-basketball-recruiting-joey-hart-commits-to-uk-john-calipari/70288178007/Definitely would have been a great get for Evansville.

I wish Joey would have signed with UE but it's hard to begrudge somebody going to Kentucky. Maybe he can win a championship and earn a lot of cash even sitting at the end of the bench next season, then transfer to UE, invest his NIL money in a good mutual fund, help us win an MVC title and graduate with a good chunk of change in the bank. (My recruiting pitch probably needs work...)
