He’s probably doing both simultaneously. Marcus is already on staff if he wants it. Id imagine he already has several other people in mind that he’s working on getting on staff with him. I hope Reboots Omar Lowery rumor has legs to it. I wonder how long it will be before we start hearing news of him offering players? It’s going to be hard to get quality players in this late for next season, but I am really excited to see who he goes after for the Class of ‘23. I am hopeful that he will be trying to recruit the same level prospects that he was at Butler and that he will be able to land a few to get things going here

Pardon me but maybe should temper your expectations a bit. Nothing personal & also applies to ISU but Evansville won't be home for any "Butler level" recruits and no IU, PU or any other P5 level.

What was your purpose to come on this site. You have no idea what kind of players he will get. Can definitely get Butler type players.

ISU Blue has been sniffing too many of the fumes that resonate in Terre Haute country obviously. He’s obviously just looking to argue. If it walks like a duck and swims like a duck and quacks like a duck then it is probably a duck. What a loser.

We’ll, that’s already been proven wrong by one of our recent former coaches who got Sam Cunliffe and Deandre Williams in here. Perhaps won’t happen often, but your blanket statement has already been wrong in the past few years. I do welcome your appearance on the board though.

Lots of them have Butler, ISU, or Ball State offers. I’m not saying he’s going to land Top 100 level recruits, but there’s no reason to think he can’t sell the kids like JQ Roberts, Sam Orme, or Jermaine Coleman on coming to UE. I’m confident he will try his hardest to land some kids of that caliber and based on his reputation, I think he will have some success. Might want to tell Shertz to stop wasting his time with those kids too if that’s your belief.

247sports.com/player/connor-turnbull-46117842/I mentioned this guy in the other thread. He decommited from Butler after the coaching change and recommitted shortly after Rags was retained. He’s liked several of UEs posts about Ragland since the hire. Clearly they have a great relationship and if he ever entered the portal, I would think we would have a great chance at brining him here. These are the caliber players that I think Rags will still be recruiting and trying to bring to Evansville. Not top tier talent, but guys that would be great mid major players in The Valley. It’s doable to recruit these kind of guys and I’m confident he will be elevating our recruiting to this level of players.

I’d say your analysis is probably spot on because when you click that 247 link it shows David Ragland as the coach who recruited him. I have little to no doubt that coach will be able to sell our facilities and the Ford Center and get some very good ball players in here.

He’s class of 2024, but he absolutely should be target #1. This is one of the rare elite prospects that UE could actually land due to Marcus. I was reading up on his recruitment last night and he mentioned in an interview that Butler was recruiting him hard. I would have to assume that Rags was the lead on that recruitment due to his relationship with Marcus. Hopefully he’s just as interested in UE as he was in Butler.

Interesting that Turnbull’s jersey number is 22 same as Rags and Ragland was his primary recruiter to Butler. Connor’s commitment to Butler seemed to revolve around Ragland’s status as a coach. Now that Rags is a head coach it would be realistic to hope that Turnbull would follow him to UE. He would definitely be a recruiting jewel and possibly a game changer for UE. As for John Bol, it would not be unheard of for him to end up at UE if Marcus Wilson were to be hired as an assistant coach. Talk about hitting the lottery twice. I can’t even imagine what the Aces could be in the future with the likes of Sallee, Turnbull, Bol, Hall along with Smith and Phillips roaming the paint.

I agree to a point,Walter was only able to get a one p5 recruit and he moved around d a lot.Hopefully Rags can influence some players to build a winning program.

Remember Butler used to suck! Evansville routinely beat them back in the Jo Sexton days. It takes one successful coach to turn the perception around and build a winner. It can be done!

One only has to look at Gonzaga to see what could be. Before Mark Few the Zags weren’t on anyone’s radar. Proof that a good coach with good assistants and early recruiting success can bring a small private school to a national power. Butler was similar but has since struggled a little after joining the Big East. Shaka Smart has shown what a good young coach can do when given the HC reins at VCU, Texas and Now Marquette. He moved his way up as an assistant at California (PA), Akron, Clemson and Florida.
If Ragland is as good a coach/recruiter, mentor and person as others not connected with UE have stated and he has some early success, I’m sure we will see some strong upward movement by the Aces.
