He entered the portal on March 28th. His Verbal Commits profile here. We previously recruited him in 2020 for the 2021 class. Here is the link to that thread. Last year he played 13 minutes in six games - Akron bio. Note: Akron was 24-10 last year and lost in the first round of the NCAA tournament 57-53 to a good UCLA team. Sekou did not play in that game. Although his stats are not good from last year (12 points, 6 rebounds and two blocks), this is probably the type of guy we need to recruit for a true big with some upside. Note: Those stats were in 13 minutes - so he did a lot in those 13 minutes. His high school comments say: "averaged a double-double with a team-best 15.6 points and 10.9 rebounds per game ... played 26 games played ... scored 405 points ... grabbed 284 boards." Note: This is also mentioned in the "Transfer Portal Madness" thread (on page 3 and 4).

I was really high on Sekou when UE recruited him several years ago. Not sure what happened at Akron. I definitely believe he would be a big upgrade than what the team has had. The fact he visited UE again I think is a real positive. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. We all could use some good news by now.

Personally I believe he would be a perfect fit at UE. Take a look at the current roster. A lot of up and down players. From Kalle’s previous recruiting he was a very athletic up and down player. It would be a mistake to recruit players who look like football linemen but can’t run the floor. While there are many who fit that description they don’t come to UE.

I agree that he would be an awesome pick up for the Aces and he would be guaranteed a lot of playing time. From my understanding of "what happened at Akron" is that after he signed they signed some transfers that put him down the depth chart. Remember Akron was 24-10 last year and I believe made the tournament. So I think it just comes down to playing time for him and that he wants to play now. And we definitely can provide that - I heard the visit went well and he would have a good nucleus to build around here (even though the numbers are few at the moment). Also, if they get a big like this, Preston, Trey and Antoine can play their more natural positions away from the basket. My fingers are crossed as well that we get some good news on him and others signing in the near future. Once we get close to school being out I would expect to see more movement. Also hoping we hear about a new AD soon.

Also hoping we hear about a new AD soon. I feel a small level of optimism than I had not had before in quite a while. I think it was watching the interview with Lickliter. I never questioned he wanted to win. But just seeing him showing some passion and "ownership" of what has happened to the program was good for me (and others) to finally see. I wish he knew how much more he needs to do that for fans like ourselves. I write this here to say if he can sign a Sekou what a big difference it could make. Could influence other potential recruits to come as well. Then, with a new AD coming in, the program can begin to prepare itself months ahead of time of whom will be the next new head coach.

So right you are. Sekou would be a huge get, and heaven knows we need a big in the worst way.
Also like your comment about preparation for the next HC. There will be NO excuses for not finding the right guy to take over from Lick. The new AD will have 9 months to network, reach out to potential coaches, and put us in a position where we are one of the first D1 teams to fill our HC spot, rather than taking leftovers.

This tells me that Logan is likely recruiting him if the rumors are true where he is going; not sure if that is even legal if he is still employed by us. Of course, that is speculation.

It would seem he is going to follow Logan. Disappointing

Maybe, but it’s more likely that Logan has taken some knowledge with him and yes, maybe Logan was the lead on Kalle. It’s a nasty game. That’s why you need a tenacious HC who can CLOSE.

Fingers crossed. This would be huge for Evansville, and he would be guaranteed lots of playing time. I'm sure a quality point guard will be easier to find than a quality big. Some good news would be good for all of us, just wouldn't bet the house on it.
Blaise, Preston, Trey and Sekou would be a great nucleus to big around for the future with the incoming freshman as well. I'm sure they would likely take their lumps in the near-term. Probably not enough to make Shamar or Jawaun come back but who knows. Let's see what Sekou decides first.

Time to find out if Licks got any recruiting juice left in the tank! The pessimist in me has got a bad feeling he goes to CSUN and we’re all going to be left contemplating who Logans been recruiting for while on UE payroll still

So I just did a quick review of his twitter following, and I will say this:
He doesn’t appear to be following any other coaches associated with other programs but he does follow all UE coaches, our DOBO, and Trey Hall. No following of Logan or anyone from CSUN that he officially visited.
It’s just twitter, but that makes me veeeeeerrrryyy optimistic!
EDIT: Looked again and he does follow a few coaches. Bellarmine, CSU Fullerton, and Travis Steele ( Miami OH). But none on the level of his UE following and he doesn’t appear to follow CSU Northridge despite visiting.
