So.... Where are we at now with available spots? One left to fill for next year (and it needs to be a big guy with more than one year of eligibility).

I think Chad’s sophomore class might be wrong. Emmette I think already has played two years at a community college and thus would be a junior...Thomasi only played in three games last year for a total of seven minutes. So I am thinking that he would be eligible for a redshirt year and still have four years of eligibility...Samari played in eight games last year before transferring- so I am guessing he will have 2 and a half years of eligibility since he is not eligible till mid year. So he is probably our only sophomore (other than Gage who is a walk-on).
Correct me if I am wrong- which I could be.

In the UE press release they document Page played 2 years at his JUCO. Therefore, he should be listed as a Junior on the chart.
As for Thomasi, I’m not sure he qualifies as a medical redshirt. He came in and played under Walter which eliminated any redshirt possibility other than medical. There has been no discussion of applying for a medical exemption by UE so I would assume last year has gone. With the guards we have now I don’t see Thomasi getting much playing time next year which could explain TL’s comment there could be one or two others who might leave.
Since we have one scholarship still open now, we should pocket it for a true #5 that might yet come along. I would rather have it available for November than to give it to a marginal player that doesn’t fit our main need which is a true big man In the paint.

Looking at that roster, I see no one being redshirted(perhaps likely Hall?), and with the knowledge that coach TL likes to play only 7-8 players, could there be some discontent?? Just don't see any more reason to fill last spot .

I don't know why someone would go to a school that the coach says he only likes to play 7 to 8 players.

I like what I see in the highlights. I can see why he doesn't have a lot of offers though. He definitely isn't quick or athletic at all. Personally, I don't care - I think that is extremely overrated especially at a school like Evansville. You aren't going to get the best athletes here anyway so I think it's sort of foolish to evaluate people based on how athletic they are. They will always be less athletic than the other team's athletes or they will have major shortcomings in other areas (exhibit A - Cunliffe).
He can definitely shoot and he can score from anywhere on the floor.
The problem is though - we really need size. Desperately. At least one of the remaining scholarships has to go to a big man - minimum. I like Yoder's game well enough though that I would take him. He would definitely help with the shooting woes we currently have.
One other thing I really like about him is that he already knows how to play against people who are more physically gifted than him. You can see the shot fakes and the good footwork in the highlights. You don't see that with a lot of other guys because they have just been able to get by on talent alone. I really like this guy. How can you not like a guy who never misses a shot?

Just don't see any more reason to fill last spot . Looking at the twelve scholarship players I would say ten would be seriously competing for playing time (all except Peace and probably Thomasi). And Samari is not eligible to play till mid year; so that puts us at nine guys potentially in the rotation and you always evidably have guys missing games because they are banged up or injured. So everyone who is competing in practice should expect to play (in general terms). What is intriguing about this roster is that the high ceiling guys tend to be underclassmen, except for Sam. You could have a starting lineup mid year of DeAndre, Trey, Sam, Samari and Shamar and everyone except Sam could comeback.

please don't over-hype a frosh who hasn't yet seen the collegiate game, particularly given TL's love for Evan, Noah and Jawaun

What I would like to see is Noah Hupmman come to UE as a walk on,redshirt his Freshman year and see if he develops the following year

I’m fairly pleased with the recruits. Not entirely sure on Jax but at this point I’ll give Coach the benefit of the doubt. We all would’ve loved a 6’10” 280 lb mobile center that could shoot, but take a number.... who wouldn’t. Considering our record last year, I’d say we did quite well. And we’ll have quite a few scholarships next year too.
