Re: UE @ ISU next weekend, Aces must find a game #3 starter. This could be the series winner! With Smith & Harris playing "no show" late season, something has to give.
Hannah's pre-game Fri. stated that Luke Hayden (IU Transfer/Game 3 SP) has been ill the past couple days, so ISU MIGHT be short-handed this weekend, allowing the Aces to close the #1-2 MVC gap .
Btw, next Friday's ESPNU telecast in TH now has a 4:30 start time.

Robust little throng at Forgotonia Field here in Valpo as the Aces brought many fans. There is a rather larger UE alumni following in this part of the state. No lights at Bauer Field, so all games in glorious natural Vitamin D. I got to meet Mrs. Pom Pom Mom, who was pleased to be called that. She is involved in the St. Louis area trying to build a NIL collective for junior college athletes. He is a vibrant lady, to be sure. I also got to meet Mark's dog Brutus, who never met an Aces fan he didn't want to sniff.

Aces plan to replace Smith & Harris with Smith & Wesson.

UE might see RPP Pruitt next Friday, w/ ISU's Spencer having a 3rd straight Fri. night flop.Kid is initially focused, but wavers after 3 innings.Pruitt came in relief after throwing to 9 Illinois batters on Tu. Looks like his arm is getting back to form. He hadn't a win since mid-Feb. (2 1/2 mos)

Sometimes pitchers don't have command. Lots of reasons for that. If you can't land a 1-1 pitch, it gets shaky.

Lovely day in David Porter's ceremonially perfect city not far from the pristine waters of Lake Mishigani, where the steelheads roam free and boaters become immortalized in Gordon Lightfoot songs.
The Aces put an old-fashioned trash can lid on the Valpo Vapers on Friday. Today promises more of same. We'll be there, just down the street from the Speedway station where you can get Sliders, garden mulch, Gatorade and fresh gasoline to haul the kiddies to soccer practice.
Livin' high on the hog here.
Looking at how the MVC is shaping up for the next 8 games -- I'd say, we should try to win all of them.
Game time today is 1 p.m. Central. Lucky for me, Porter County is in the Central zone, so I don't need to do clumsy conversion charts.
UE team average of .295 is second in the league to the Chicago Circles. Shallenberger's slash reads like Barry Bonds material, and his .390 and 1.24 are league highs for average and OPS.
Pitching: UE LHP Donovan Schultz (3-1, 6.16 ERA) vs. Vapers RHP Connor Lockwood (2-3, 5.59 ERA). UE pitcher for Sunday is TBA.

Are those Nancy Sinatra's boots? Pug must have a 60's sniffer... Either that, or they belong to Joe South, who asks you to walk a mile in them. I'd say Mrs. Pom Pom was in happy-feet land after Markie cleared the wall with that dinger.

stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=508403&vislive=evan- 13 hits today by UE & only 4 runs? Tough luck...Carrol needs to integrate a few small ball tactics to upset the balance & force the "D" to make the plays. Time of the year to cut loose the "haves from the have nots." Aces just gotta get better relief P. These guys napping in the bullpen? Donovan didn't throw a bad game... On the other hand, ISU's Cutts was "postage stamped" by HP Wayne Harris today, who squeezed the zone early, forcing Cutts to have "control issues." Leading ERA man in the MVC couldn't find the dish? But the Syc's brought in their lil' lefty Davidson who slammed the door shut, allowing ISU's 5 HR's in the 6-7th to forge an 8-5 win. stats.statbroadcast.com/statmonitr/?id=503762

Aces got BABIP'd today by a Valpo team that caught everything in front of the wall and most everything just back of second base. Fieger let Valpo off the hook but when you're hot, you're hot. Schultz pitched all right, couldn't land his off-speed stuff early on, which cost him a run or two. Even at that, I told Scherry when he was in the hole in the 9th that he would probably tie it with a granny. It never happened but he got a chuckle out of the suggestion. I did see a couple of places that UE could have bunted for a hit, but oh well. It's hard to sweep. Valpo isn't a terrible team.

Yesterday's loss and the 3 losses to Murray St. still stings as we fall in a tie with UIC for 2nd place.

Last of 3 important games today in Beacon Square, where the ticket prices are perfect, the parking ordinary and the fans heavily tilted in favor of the Purple Aces. No such thing as a must-win unless it's a game you have to win. Today would be as close to that as possible. At stake the next two weekends are 6 truly tough games, so you take out the tail-enders if you can. Valpo believes it can win games and they truly are capable, even if they were luckier on Saturday than they were talented. UE fly balls caught on the track would get out of there with a breeze, which didn't exist. BABIP, a statistic that measures luck, was livin' large on the Beacon side. Kyle (Don't call me Mitch) Hannahs got an idea yesterday, which we hope isn't some kind of omen. 4 hits for that guy.
From the GPA website:
With the victory, Valparaiso improved to 14-30 overall and 6-14 in the MVC. Evansville dropped to 26-20 overall and 13-7 in the MVC with the loss. The two teams will conclude the series on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. in a game that can be heard live in the Tri-State area on 107.1 FM-WJPS. Senior right-hander Shane Harris (4-5, 4.34 ERA) is expected to get the start for the Purple Aces in the series finale. Valpoian starter is RHP Bryce Konitzer. Konitzer has been extremely tough his last 3 games. Somehow, they decided that there were 235 of us in attendance on Saturday. Two very large groups of UE parents, supporters and fans.
