With Hulman on the Wabash asserting itself as the team to beat in the Valley, again, there is plenty at stake. As it stands, only the Milton Bradleys and the Valpo Beaconaders appear to be in Slime City. Only the top 8 get to live for the MVC tournament, planned for May 21-25 at UE. UE takes its show on the road Tuesday for a game against the Cape Girardeau Pink Flamingos, who lost a 6-5 walkoff to the Aces on March 13. 6 p.m. starter. ESPN+ is promised. The Aces have improved since then. SEMo is the epitomy of average -- 22-22 (10-8 in the OVC) with a recent 8-5 win over the Carbondale Dogs. Capaha Field at SEMo where they advertise Budweiser but nobody there actually drinks it. UE will play at Valpo on F-S-Su, and it's a great chance for me to root for my heroes and perhaps meet the Pom Pom Mom. The Beaks hold their games at Forgotonia Field just back of the Bob Evans. It's a 5-minute drive through the Roundabout if you keep going round and round. Valpo has had a suck season and we are hoping that continues. I would show a photo of their ballpark but it's mostly just not interesting. Turf field. I don't know what sort of beer they advertise this year. We're a craft beer-kinda town. Snobs, to be honest. Mark Shallenberger has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week after slashing an unbelievable .692/.800/1.308 in four games last week for the Purple Aces. His draft stock is pretty high right now.

Congrats to Schally and his hot stick! Good to see players "clutch" this time of year. As Emeril would say, "Kick'n it up a notch!"...I'll bet Mom's dig'n this.
Btw ATP, is that the "Beer Garden?" Why only Bud ads?

SEMO ballpark faces backward. Sun setting behind left field fence. The Red Chickens having a 1944 St. Louis Browns throwback uniform game. The '44 Browns trained at Cape Girardeau. Mostly a bullpen game for them. Kevin Reed is dealing.

A rather interesting 8th inning for Fieger and Hansmann. A rather interesting 9th inning for Kyle Miller.

Those games don't really count. Stats with the wind blowing out at 30 mph ... pfffffffffffft.

Check @ season end...when you don't see any "wind gust" asterisks next to the HR #'s and ERA's. Wish you'd seen some of the game conditions I had oceanside in FL.
Btw, don't the Illini & Boilers have NCAA Lawn Bowling squads for "wind gust" games?

RPI ratings: UE is #112 Indiana State is #11 That is a big difference. When you look under the hood a little bit at Q1, Q2, Q3, and Q4 games for each team, you see that Indiana State is .500 (8-8) against Q1 and Q2 teams. We have zero wins against Q1 teams (0-5) and are 2–8 against the Q1 and Q2 teams combined. In fact, we have a sub 500 record against Q2 and Q3 teams while we are 18–5 against Q4 teams. We will likely have our hands full when we play Indiana State. www.warrennolan.com/baseball/2024/rpi-live

Sure, stats are stats are stats, but a 21-11 game is a freak show. No coach is going to take anything from it and the players aren't fooled either. Even a 18-5 blowout in a conference game is a win or a loss. I recall the Aces beating DBU 21-1 in the tournament a couple of years back. S**t happens.
